I have resigned myself to the fact that most of our remaining games will not be on TV, and if last week was any indication, most fans are avoiding the stadium. Stephen Ross has stated that he wants to improve the Game-Day Experience, so I have an idea.
An empty seat brings in zero revenue, right? So, why not change strategy. Ross should go to all current season ticket holders and offer an upgrade to a better seat location...in order to clear entire sections of the upper deck. Then, he should lower the ticket prices for those sections....sell 4 packs for $100 or something along those lines. Even cheaper if possible. Get people to return to the stadium so they can enjoy the team in person. People always seem to ignore the obvious; Ross should publicly embrace it. "We know that we have not been successful at home, and we know that it is expensive to go to games, so for the remainder of the season, the Dolphins will be lowering ticket prices. Those who currently have tickets will be moved to better seat locations or into the lower bowl. And new fan sections, with fan friendly pricing, will fill our upper decks. It is our way of saying that we will continue to support our fans as long as they continue to support us."
There was a time, back in the 80's, when the Orange Bowl was among the most feared places to play in the league. The crowd noise rule was instituted because of us and the Kingdome in Seattle. Shula used to have to get on the referee's mic and ask the crowd to quiet down or the team would be penalized 5 yards. Now, if we fail to produce on 1-2 drives, the stadium dies. They need to fill that place, and I don't see any other way to do it than dropping prices. He won't lose money....an empty seat brings no revenue, no concession sales, no merchandise sales. Dedicate entire sections to lower-cost seating (and I don't mean like the Family Zone), and you will improve the game-day experience.
