Flynn is officially in Miami per La Canfora

What his height and weight?

If we get him i think it's 5yr $28m...............

The thing I don't understand about the Kevin Kolb comparison is you could pop in a tape of Kevin Kolb and see bad decisions and bad plays everywhere. Between his awful timing, his tendency to get the ball stripped trying to run around, accuracy which was really inconsistent, total inability to read or press anything down the field and tendency to only go for the check downs...I just never 'got it' on why this guy is supposed to be a good quarterback.

I can pop on a tape of Matt Flynn and there's no comparison. The guy has timing, accuracy, decent (but not 'good') ability under a rush, his decision making is sound, he'll read and push the ball up the field...he can get the ball stripped but it's on real strip-sacks not his running around and being stupid with it.

Similarly think of the Kyle Orton thing last year. We'd have had to pay a 3rd round pick and $9 million a year for him. Pop on the tape of both of those guys and tell me Matt Flynn is not CLEARLY better. Orton could have entire games where absolutely nothing he did was any good from an accuracy or decision-making standpoint. He had zero ability under a rush. Yet he was an upgrade on Chad Henne, I still insist that is the case.

In the three games where Flynn had significant action his offense scored 75 points on his 70 of 107 for 908 yards, 9 TD and 3 INTs passing. That's a 108 passer rating. That's a good job. It's promising. He's got the physical ability. I've done a lot of work on his velocity and though I'm not happy with his deep ball I believe he has "good" velocity on any throw between 50 and 100 feet that needs velocity on it, better than guys like Peyton Manning and Colt McCoy. Currently better than Robert Griffin and Ryan Tannehill as a matter of fact. Not better than Brandon Weeden but, well, who is?

Hold on, let me get this straight. You're saying that we should actually take a critical look at guys like Flynn and Weeden instead of just immediately likening them to FA backups who flopped (Kolb) or other college QBs who happened to come out at about the same age (Beck)?

Whoah.

and if thats all it takes its a no brainer...i think it will be north of that personally...as the free agent qb he's gonna be looking for at least average nfl starter money and i'm thinking thats more in the $6 mil per range...the good thing is it sounds like kolb money is out...but i bet thats what his agent was asking for initially

he's coming in to be our starter...miamis gonna have to pay him accordingly...

If we get him he will still have to beat out Moore, Im all in for this but dont think he will get much more than 28m.............

Late year we would not go 8 mil for Orton. There's your number 6 - 8 mil. No where near the crazy money Kolb got.Thank goodness.

he's not coming here to compete with matt moore...

I just dont see Flynn to be much better than Moore if any at all..........im fine with Moore for 2012 with some weapons, and go all in for Barkley in 2013.

another concern i have with flynn is if theres one guy i believe can identify a guys weaknesses and exploit them at qb its bill belichick...and if that happens the rest of the league will follow suit til he proves he can handle it...whatever said issue might be...kinda like what happened with chad henne...the second we didn't have that running game to keep teams from sitting back in shell coverages and making him make quick decisions and read the field and anticipate he got exposed...

Definitely, and issue #1 is going to be tendency to hold onto the football just a little longer than is ideal in this style of WCO.

With the Dolphins' receivers, the other issue will be not having a real deep threat that jives with Flynn. Gates is speedy but Flynn's deep ball isn't built for speed, it's built for guys like James Jones and Jordy Nelson.

I find it funny that you know more than a guy who has spent his whole life coaching. Who has been with one of the best run organizations in football for the last 9 years. Who was this guys OC since he was drafted. This guy who is mediocre just happened to beat out their 2nd rd QB the year they were drafted. This mediocre guy who ripped 2 teams he started against putting up numbers no Miami QB has even come close to in a while.

So we have this head coach we just hired that everyone around the league respects and has only said good things about. Who has run an amazing system in GB since he has been the OC. And he wants to bring in his QB to build his team around and your opinion that this QB is mediocre has any credibility?? Sorry but i have seen so many posts from folks hammering Flynn - why? You all no nothing about him! He backed up one of the best in the game. We were looking at Manning over him. Okay so he isn't better than Manning or Rodgers now. I guess that makes him mediocre.

I thought all along it would be a great signing IF Philbin went after him because that shows what he thinks of a guy he knows MUCH better than anyone in the NFL. We are hopefully bringing in a guy with 4 years experience in the complex system we will be running who is by the way 2 years younger than Weeden which i have heard some folks asking for.

I think the only concern I have here is that we haven't exactly busted the door down going after him. They've known at least since Thurs that Manning wasn't in our future (probably should have guessed it even before then) and he is just now getting here ??

The other thing is are we settling for the 'best of the rest' now with Manning gone. Is the luke-warm courting of Flynn a sign that Philbin isn't overly enamored, but he's, again, the best of the rest ?? Let's face it, if we had gotten Manning, Philbin would have been able to argue that he wasn't his first choice, that he had to adjust his system for Manning, etc had Manning bombed on us. Now, his legacy as a HC for Miami will be tied to Flynn... IDK....just sayin'

I know...novel idea...
