And that’s my point: if we do land Tua, there’s no guarantee that he’ll be that guy.
Marino is (in my opinion) the greatest passing QB to ever play the game. Bar none, records be damned. I grew up watching that guy.
So there you go guys!! There’s your awesome QB!!
Who took us to one Super Bowl.
One.
That we lost.
This is not a reflection on Marino, not at all. This proves that while you may have an elite QB (which we surely did for 16 years!), you must have a complete team around him.
Was Flacco elite? How about Dilfer? Were they worthy of carrying Marino’s cleats?
I don’t think so. But they do have rings because they had better teams than Dan did.
I don’t think Brady is what the world thinks he is. Oh, he’s mighty good. But not in Marino’s class. This is not old fashioned Brady hating talk. It’s how I see it. But he is ALWAYS surrounded by a strong team. Brady doesn’t take NE to the Super Bowl. The whole team takes NE to the Super Bowl.
So yeah, we need a QB. Badly. And soon.
But it would be idiocy to tank and sell the farm to get one, with no promise that the guy we get is worth the price.
People make the point of showing how many SB winning QBs are/were elite. No arguing that. The problem is there are VERY few elite QBs and continually trying to upgrade for one is just as likely to lead to a mediocre team than doing noting. Like you, I'm not saying not to try, but to be satisfied with a top 10 QB.
while elite QBs win most SBs, the list of QBs IN the SB shows it's a team game. Consider recent history, McNabb, Grossman, Eli (more than once), Flacco, Kaep, Russell, Newton, Peyton (when he was no longer elite), Foles, Goff. That's a lot of teams who got there WITHOUT an elite QB. My point is, fans should TRY for an elite QB, but be happy with a top 10 QB. There's a reason perpetual playoff teams don't draft QBs in R1.
Now, we know Miami is NOT a perpetual playoff team and trying for a top QB is reasonable. Few will argue against that. I'm not against a tank, but I fear there are some who want an eternal tank until Miami gets an elite QB.
