There are a lot of NFL fans out there that believe that with the money the players are making today, that most don't really care if they win a Super Bowl Ring or not - Truth be told.
Yeah, it would be NICE to win a SB ring; but at the end of the day it's all about the $$$.

Certainly there's all the talk about winning being the most important thing to the players; trophies & rings & team; but how many actually believe it's true?

Who do you believe in TODAY's NFL would sign up for a 12 year career if they could only make $35K per year as an NFL player - nothing else (Endorsements, etc.)?

That is, what modern/current players do you believe love NFL football SO MUCH they would still play if only paid $35K?

For me, Ray Lewis comes to mind.

Guess I have to ask, would you work for 4.25 an hour ? Probably not. I do not see your point. Love of the game and getting paid fairly are entirely two different things my man. I cannot believe I even bothered answering something like this.

Would an actor act? Would a rock star rock? It's called supply and demand. The revenue generated has to go some where.

I don't think anybody should play this game for that type of money. Too dangerous and you're almost guaranteed long term medical problems. I don't think it would be worth it to play for that money.

don't you mean 350k? i made 35k coming out of high school, why would anyone work for that??? even if you love your job, you still need to survive. 35k isn't enough to rent an apartment, nevermind live.

Well, anybody with a sense of history can remember a time when athletes weren't payed very much. The explosion of athlete salaries is something that has gotten out-of-hand over the past 20ish years. Players during the 70's were not making a lot of money and in some cases actually had other jobs.

Also, it's not the politically correct thing to say but most current NFL players wouldn't be making much in the real world. Take away the scholarships with lowered academic standards and the bulk of the NFL are skilled manual labor.

With the average median income in the US around 40k, 35k to play a game isn't a bad deal. Most UFL and Arena League guys are probably making a lot less. Throw in good health insurance and it's WINNING!

Everyone. Player's played for that & less for 70 years.

Joe Namath went to the AFC because the NFL (St. Louis Cardinals) wouldn't buy him a T-Bird as a bonus in addition to his ave. salary they agreed on. Jets bought him the car & paid him more.

Sounds funny today. Players used to all have jobs ... like selling of cars & insurance to cash in on people knowing them & getting the opportunity to chat them up.

Most athletes pay their own money just to play sports ... like all the jocks on the Forum.

In Arena football and in the UFL the players make about $35K, so yes I do believe some players do it because they love the game. A lots of these players would be making less than that at 21 years old if they didnt have football anyway.

Heck, I remember when Marino got like a $9M for 6 year deal and everyone thought that was a lot....that is peanuts by today's standards...

It think you are missing the point, so I will explain it better. It's a relatively EASY decision to play football for millions of dollars, to get beat up week in and week out. But for millions of $$$ OK. BUT what if the NFL didn't pay the Millions, like the Old Days of the NFL? How many of today's players would STILL want to be NFL players if they were NOT paid Millions of dollars? That is, which NFL players SO LOVE the GAME that they would play no matter how much they were paid.

Oh, sorry! This is a FinHeaven thread. It should only be a Henne Stinks thread or Sparano stinks thread or let's pick up this scrub thread or some 16 year old wanting some Madden-type trade.
