For anybody who thinks that we can't compete right away, all you really need to do is check out these numbers:
In 1998 the Rams finished 4-12(Gee, that record sounds familiar

) and the very next year finished 13-3 and won the Super Bowl.
In 1999 the New England Patriots finished 5-11 and the following year finished 11-5 and won the Super Bowl.
In 1998 the Indianapolis Colts finished 3-13, the next year that finished 13-3.
In 2003 the San Diego Chargers finished 4-12(Man that record keeps sounding familiar) and the next year finished 12-4.
And that's only covering the last seven years. So as one can see it's happened before. Will it happen again with the Dolphins? Probably not, but there is absolutely no good reason for a team not to think of the present without sacraficing the future, something that I am impressed in how Saban seems to fully understand.
A perfect example is the signing of Lance Schulters to help our depleted secondary. Schulters was hoping to get a contract as big as the one in had with the Titans but Saban was wily enough to know that there really is not much of a market for 30 year old safeties who have just come off a injury filled season. So Saban waited till Schulters finally came back to earth and signed him to a lone year contract at minimal cost and in turn got a quality safety who can go a long way to bringing stability to an area of our team that is a MAJOR concern.
