Forgotten Matt Moore; Dan Marino on Peyton Manning’s future

the only qb we can sign that 100 percent deserves to be named starter no matter what he does in training camp is peyton manning. anyone else, including moore, a 1st round pick, or even flynn should have to earn the job in camp if they want it, and they should be told so before signing here( this is for flynn because a rookie qb drafted wont really have that choice, and even if they did holdout, it wouldnt help them, and plus being a rookie, theyd understand).

matt flynn as a packer has basically played in 3 games, starting 2. in 2010, he came in the 2nd qtr when rodgers suffered a concussion vs the lions and he stunk it up badly. the following week his stats looked good, and he played a solid game, but they lost, and the most recent 1 vs detroit he played a career game and won. so in 3 total games, hes 1-2, but in 2 starts he is 1-1.

now if everyone on here is only concerned about wins and losses, which is obviously the main thing, then he is a 500 career starter with a little sample size.

maybe he does have potential, maybe he does not, who knows. what i do know is, that someone with his resume who has started a total of 2 games in his nfl career, played in 3 for the majority, he should not just be handed the keys to the starting job with no compeitition just because of one great game.

if he is willing to come in here and compete with moore, who after last year at least earned the right to compete for the starting job( unless we get manning of course) then bring him in. However, since all the media outlets and fans are talking about him like he is the greatest free agent, a top flight proven qb in the nfl despite 2 and a half games played, then he will want guranteed money, prob 30 in guranteed, plus a 5 year 60-65 million dollar deal, which in that case he is the starter regardless of his performance in camp, then i dont think its smart.

i would assume anyone reading this, regardless of if they like flynn or not, or hate moore or not, would have to agree that is only fair way to do things, because i dont see how anyone can justify handing the keys over as starting franchise qb to someone who has played in a grand total of 2 and a half games in his nfl career in majority starter minutes, going 1-2, and tell me that he should not have to compete with anyone, just be given the keys as starter like proven qbs in the nfl are such as brady, brees, big ben, rodgers, etc.
Exactly what Im thinking... But my gut tells me we dont go after Flynn, I have a feling even Philbin isnt sold on him at the price he's going to warrant...

i really hope we dont go after him for that money, because although people will say '' well its not your money so who cares'', etc, and technically they are right, by giving him the money he will demand will make him the starter regardless without competition, which is not how it should be.

Matt Moore played okay against some bad teams, yet the Dolphins still finished with the 23rd ranked passing offense. I would like this franchise to surpass the Jay Fiedler Dolphins please.

And you can't even chalk up all the wins to Moore. That last Jets game he threw 135 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT's with a 61 passer rating. Not good, yet we won mainly because of a rare 58 yard field goal and the implosion of the Jets. I don't want a team that beats up on some crappy teams and loses to all the good teams.

I think we've only beaten 7 teams with a winning record since 2006, and just 1 outside the division. That's not good. Part of that is this bad-mediocre passing game we've had since 2000.

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

the guy is a glorified rookie, he hasnt even played 2 full seasons worth of games, and most of those were off the bench and or under adverse circumstances. so how do you condemn him to that?

is that what your going to say about RGlll with 20 games under his belt? or, like we have now, will he be the victim of a bad o-line, etc... and he needs the pieces to show he is a franchise qb? or is it a few games and out, who cares about the o-line,camp, surrounding cast..... ?

we have an AWFUL o-line. folks squaked for years about o-line when it was the skill positions that were bad [fiedler]. now, we actually have a crap o-line and everyone thinks that makes no difference, matt should have thrown 50 td's like the other franchise guys.

if you really had looked over his career, saw what happened on the teams he was on, how he came in here with a doomed coach and staff, 0-7 team, maybe the WORST o-line the nfl and NO TIME WITH THE STARTERS in a LIMITED camp you wouldnt be saying he is a journeyman, sub bar qb. not at all. you couldnt! there hasnt been enough games for him to play in and full camps!!

your kind of exposed here bud.

I've watch him play here, and in Carolina. The guy doesn't have the physical tools to be elite. His ball placement is bad, and he fumbles constantly. He will never be more than a journeyman. Write it down.

Yeah, um ...

Moore went 6-6 this year.

'Nuff said.

Let's look at the team he did that with:

- 0-4 before he started a game
- Lost 7 straight games before he started (dating back to last year)
- Had gone 0-7 before he lead them to their first win with a dominant passing performance (ended 10 game losing streak)
- 5-11 in their last 16 games before he started (3 other starting QB's)

You convinced me, he did do a darn good job!

So his record-setting TD drive had nothing to do with us winning?

So Manning is out a year and you guys all forget about what he's capable of.

Next you'll be saying we should re-sign Henne to compete with Moore at camp.

I really think you are wrong. I believe Moore is starter material and i think he proved that last year. I disagree about the ball placement, he did really well with that and it bears out when you consider the Phins were in the top of the league in long pass plays. He fumbles mainly because he doesn't get rid of the ball fast enough and because the Phins had a weak line on the right side. I think he can be coached to get rid of the ball faster and take less sacks/fumbles. . I think he has some upside, and could lead a team to the SB with some good coaching and a few more players around him. Matt Moore finished as a top 12 QB. I think it wouldn't take much of a leap to figure he could improve to the top 10 and reach "elite" status in the coming years. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. I hope they hang onto what they have while they search for someone "elite".

You're right, the fumbles have been annoying but unlike an interception problem, where a QB just doesn't see the field, fumbles can be heavily reduced with just concentration. Plus people forget that with both Henne and Moore the sack rate was pretty much amongst the league worst.
