Former Dolphins scout threatening to sue the team after contract not renewed

Sounds like the team was doing more than that for TEN years.

I don't know all of the details here, but if a scout is unable to travel and actually scout players in person, uh, that would make it pretty much impossible to do the job, wouldn't it?

it was said that he just watched film and sent in reports.

The Dolphins need to be extremely careful as to how they deal with the courts on this. I know of a local restaurant here in West Boca Raton that a judge shut down for several weeks because their building did not have a bathroom that met ADA requirements and the parking lot did not have a wheelchair friendly ramp that met ADA requirements. The restaurant tried to ignore doing what the law required. The judge eventually sent the sheriff in and shut the building down. Judges who hear ADA related lawsuits take them very seriously.

There are online courses for children, particularly those with...wait for it...disabilities.

you sure do love to nitpick. can we please just stop this stupid argument right here? he was obviously talking about a normal teacher, in a classroom setting, saying they wanted to work from home, and teach the exact same class. can you not deduct that reasoning from his post, instead of making a snide remark? children....

I find it hard to believe that he was let go if they felt he was doing a good job.

Truth is, we'll probably never know anyway.

i'm guessing his reports sucked, or they found someone else to take over his duties.

Hopefully Hickey went through the proper protocols for release a person of their duties.Ecspecially when it comes to any sort of discrimation.

Well said.

Don't be shocked if on Thursday we find out this scout was like Milton in Office Space. He's been getting a check since Jimmy Johnson left and nobody even knew he existed.

I support Hickey's right to appoint the scouts that he wants to work with. Hickey has vast experience as a scout and leading a team of scouts and is probably an expert in these matters. When there is a change in GM, there is sometimes a shakeup in scouting personnel.
His wife's condition is probably a convenient excuse to commence legal action, hoping that our billionaire owner will pay something to settle rather than incur bigger costs in litigation.
Thanks to Mr Sullivan for his 17 years service. The nature of his work means that he cannot and should not assume continuity of service. Former GM, Jeff Ireland and his Assistant GM, Brian Gaine both left so it was natural to expect other changes.

Hope the legal team is better than the medical team down there. We are going to be under a microscope for a while so we better get it right.

Maybe Hickey looked reviewed his performance and didn't like what he saw?

Pointing out facts that counter silly statements that are essentially calling the scout lazy is nitpicking? Your (his) analogy doesn't even come close to the situation with the scout; so pointing out the flaw in such a comparison is not nitpicking, it's pointing out an error that negates the entire argument. Need more? Fine. The comparison doesn't work unless the teacher begins teaching the class from home because of a family member with disability and the class is able to be taught from home. He didn't just decide, "hey, **** this office stuff, I'm going to do this from home!" That would fit the analogy given. Again, that's not nitpicking. Considering the scout has been doing this for a decade and is the same job he did while in the office, it's safe to assume he was able to accomplish his work tasks of scouting game film.

However, if it is nitpicking, is nitpicking worse than making big assumptions like "he was fired because his reports suck" without anything to back it up other than the anger one has that their precious team is accused of doing something wrong?

Personally, I'm not going to make such assumptions. The team hasn't released why they fired him and likely won't. If they settle, we will likely never no because there will probably be a clause that prevents the release of that info. On the other hand, if they go to court, then we'll all know. I imagine the Phins would rather avoid the trouble and will probably settle if he opts to sue. Either way, he's an asshole in the eyes of many here simply because the Dolphins can do no wrong. I'll go ahead and wait to make such assumptions. Way too many questions. Was it performance-based? If it was just that Hickey didn't want him working from home, did he offer him the opportunity to come back to the office? If so, were they aware that it would likely require some kind of paid home care for the wife, which would likely increase the cost for the team? If they were aware, did that influence the decision to fire him? I could go on. Simply too many unknowns to say which side was in the wrong, if any. Therefore, blasting this guy because he said a meanie thing about the Glorious Miami Dolphins is ridiculous.

It's just one embarrassment after another with this team...

And people wonder why I constantly call out the owner... It all starts at the top.

you know what, I had a large paragraph that I was about to submit, but you are not worth the common sense that needs explaining, so I deleted it.

also, I said "I'm guessing", therefore it's my opinion on why a new gm would fire a scout working from home. So no one is right or wrong, as it's my opinion, not stating a fact that that was the reason.

Maybe Hickey took a play from Tyrion Lannister's playbook to uncover a leak.

Sources tell the Miami Herald the Dolphins have a first-round grade on Tennessee OT Ja'Wuan James.
It's interesting because teams are typically selective with first-round grades, generally assigning only 20 or so of them each year, and James has generated scant buzz among draftniks. At 6-foot-6, 311 with 35-inch arms, James has ideal NFL left tackle build but played right tackle at Tennessee. He would be a Week 1 starter at right tackle in Miami, bookending LT Branden Albert.

And do scouts have special rights that coaches and managers don't have? If they can be fired on a whim based on performance, or for any reason really, then why can't a scout?

Yep they should never fire anybody ever just to avoid embarrassing lawsuits...
