Former Dolphins scout threatening to sue the team after contract not renewed

This has everything to do with the BS laws/lawyers/politicians/gov't of this country and the sickening "medications" that are approved to "help" people. Nothing to do with football, the Miami Dolphins or the way they practice the business side of the TEAM. Nothing to see here, move along. Clueless drama queens may/will keep posting, you know who you are ;-). Is it September yet???? Phins Up!

Considering how downright dickish this makes this team come across, I half expect this team to issue a statement along the lines of

"We just hate people with CF and we kicked Mr Sullivan's puppy on the way out of the house, slightly before defiling his daughter"

Hickey should have just told him his reports sucked. Isn't Florida an "at-will" state?

Yep they should never fire anybody ever just to avoid embarrassing lawsuits...

Sorry, but firing someone for working remotely to help care for their chronically ill wife is a dick move no matter how you slice it. And if Hickey did do that, who hired the dick? A new dick to replace the old dick GM? Ross.

exactly why he should not have said it was because Sullivan worked remotely.

Here is his bio from the Dolphins media guide. Guy lives about 20 minutes from me, roughly 300 miles from Davie/Dolphins headquarters.

Nate Sullivan
Pro Scout

College: California - Santa Barbara
NFL: 17th Season
Team: 17th Season

Nate Sullivan is in his 17th season with the Dolphins and the 11th in his current role. He spent his first four seasons with the club (1997-2000) working in the team's pro personnel department, where he performed a variety of functions, including advance scouting and player evaluation.

A 1996 graduate of the University of California-Santa Barbara, Sullivan earned his master's degree in sports administration from St. Thomas University in Miami in 1998.

A native of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Sullivan and his wife, JoAnne, reside in Edgewater, Fla.

Here's the overview of the ADA:

http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/ada18.html

According to the guidelines, it looks like ADA protection only applies if the person who is employed is disabled. Maybe someone who knows more can chime in.

Are you serious?? What if the QB gets this?? Can he still be paid the same to work from home. This is getting crazy. We have to make tough decisions in life, if our wife is sick we can give up some of our dreams to be with her, or make other arrangements. But how is that got anything to do with the Dolphins or NFL ??

How in the **** can you be a "scout" while being planted at home? Look up the definition of the word. That would like a truck driver demanding he be allowed to work from home....

It is clear many of you failed to read the entire article. From the last paragraph:

Sullivan, who is not commenting on the advice of his attorney, was hired in Miami's pro scouting department in 1997 under then-head coach and de facto general manager Jimmy Johnson. Sullivan's job included reviewing game film and providing written scouting reports to the team's front office.

This is the 21st Century. He could watch film from the moon if he wanted to and it wouldn't impact his job duties one lick. His job is to review game tape and provide written scouting reports. He doesn't need to be in Davie to do his job well.

Hickey is simply being an authoritarian twit stuck in the 80s. For someone who touted his "new technological approach" to scouting, it is surprising to see him throwing a hissy fit over remote working.

If the facts laid in that article are correct, Hickey and the Dolphins are in the wrong, and anyone defending them are being defensive than for no other reason than they are fans. If this had been the story of any other corporation or business and an employee in a similar circumstance, anyone with a heart would side with the employee.

You're absolutely right. We all know the NFL operates outside the jurisdiction of the US Government and its laws and legal precedents. :chuckle:

you sure do love to nitpick. can we please just stop this stupid argument right here? he was obviously talking about a normal teacher, in a classroom setting, saying they wanted to work from home, and teach the exact same class. can you not deduct that reasoning from his post, instead of making a snide remark? children....

i'm guessing his reports sucked, or they found someone else to take over his duties.

Well, if his reports sucked why didn't Hickey cite his PERFORMANCE as the issue rather than stating that "working remotely didn't work for him"? Either way, if the report is true Hickey screwed up one way or another. Either by being a heartless ahole to fire a guy caring for his ailing wife simply because he didn't like the arrangement, or for not properly explaining the reason for the guy's dismissal.

maybe hickey doesn't need one guy to just look at film and write reports? maybe he already has multiple scouts that do that already, plus other roles that require them to be in an office.

also, if this guy is good, and got hired by jimmy Johnson, i'm sure it will be easy for him to find another job, no?

For all of you who think the Americans with Disability act doesn't apply to major league sports, I will point out the example of golfer Casey Martin who was allowed to use a golf cart to participate in PGA tour events due to a disability that affected his legs. He had to sue to get this concession and the courts forced the PGA tour to make the accommodation to his disability.

lol, that article just had a snippet of what Hickey said. how do you know he didn't mention his performance? You should know by now, the media can spin **** to look like gold.

Whenever anyone uses an excessive amount of "maybes" in a post it shows that they are actively seeking to excuse away behavior they don't agree with. The facts, as presented, clearly show Hickey in the wrong.
