I still think Zach's got more than a few years left in the tank .. but if Crowder impresses and stays injury free, could Zack be trade bait next season? Crowder is the type MLB Saban wants -Big and Versatile.

This is the new era like that of the Pats and i suggest we welcome it and get used to it. We will draft players, get 3-5 years out of them, then when they peak and want big pay days they will be released and replaced with the drafted players we've been grooming the years prior. You stay under the cap and you continue to reload rather then rebuild or replace. The days of big name signings are over. Big time contacts no more. No name defenses, releasing players in their prime due to money is what we should get used to under Saban.

I like it as this method guarantees the best long term franchise success with a salary cap and dare a say, a chance for a dynasty like some loathed rivals? :)

Given Zach's injury history in the last couple of years, I think Crowder will get a couple starts this year. And if he proves himself worthy, he will eventually replace ZT.

Zach is as great as he has been because of the scheme, he isnt asked to do much in the way of taking on blockers. Our scheme relies on the DL to eat up blockers and allow Zach to run free and make plays. In a 3-4 you are only playing with three down lineman, thus the LB in order to make plays will at times have to take on and shed blocks to make the plays. This is where Zach may struggle due to his size, and this is why he isnt really a fit in a 3-4 scheme.

In a unbiased straight up competition where Zach hasn't already established himself, Crowder could take Zach's job, but Zach is well established with the team, and it's fans. He is a pillar to this team; so he won't take Zach's job. Crowder is bigger and faster than Zach. The main advantage that Crowder has over Zach is he can take on blockers. Zach is not successful when a blocker gets to him, that's why we have to utilize our DTs to "block" for Zach so he can get to the RB.

The main knock on Crowder is "durablilty", I am very concerned about he knee surgeries he had in the past, but since three of the top knee doctors in the country gave him the ok that he is fine, allows me to feel a little more at ease about it. If Crowder stays healthy, he will be a BEAST.

I think Zach can fit in any scheme but he is not getting any better or younger anytime soon... I say we keep keep him this year so our guys can learn and see how he plays to make a decision on next.. He makes a pretty good chunk of change after next year I believe.

Saban wants bigger LB's so it is posible, I think at first Zack will start at MLB and Crowder could start st SLB but both could play inside on a 3-4.Zack was hurt and missed some games last year too so I'm glad we got Crowder.

Is that even possible? Could Crowder outplay Zach? I haven't seen enough of Crowder to make the assumption that he would take away a pernnial pro bowlers job but I do find that suspect.

You never know, but Channing Crowder has all the tools to do that. Think about it. Who did Zach beat out for the starting job? None other than Jack Del Reo. Yes...Zachs job could be in jeopardy. I live near Gainsville, and see a lot of gator football. Channing is the REAL deal.

I don't know, Jack Del rio was a crowd favorite too, when Zach came in and poof, he was gone. I don't know how many of you read CK's post on how excited he was we got Crowder, but I share his excitement...This guy is top of the 1st RD type talent that we got in the 3rd round, like getting poole in the 4th last year. This guy is a complete monster, LT type in his motor, it remains to be seen if his pro skills can stand the test. I wish he didn't have the knee problems, but then again, if he didn't we wouldn't have him, I gurantee he would have been taken in the 1st. If his knees hold up, and they did in college, we have Chicago's LB urlacker, sp. SOUTH, but faster.

My family are all Gators, they say Crowder is an absolute stud, I have seen him play and was impressed.

There is no doubt barring injury that he will become an important part of our team real soon, maybe sooner than you think.

I'm not an expert by any means either but I have a little understanding. It's bascially for the same reasons people were listing before about Zach needing to have his big beefy DTs to really excel. That is one of the major reasons you want big LBs in that scheme. You only have 3 down linemen, so offensive linemen are running around engaging the LBs freely. You wanna have big strong LBs that can shed a 300lb guard and still make a tackle for a loss, etc.

Crowder is an animal so I think this is very possible. He's more physically imposing than Zach but we all know who has more between the ears. I would not be surprised if CHanning is on the field more late in the year. Remember, Saban does not like little LB's.

Del Rio was hardly a fan favorite in Miami. He was only here one year, and he doesn't even list his playing days with Dolphins as part of his bottom line chronology on his bio page (although it does say he's played under Jimmy Johnson).
