Free Agency Breaking News- NFL - Breaking News Thread 2025 Offseason

The Bears are primed to implode as the worst team in the NFCN. Just bad luck but it will be a big surprise if they can get out of the cellar in the NFL's toughest division.

They were like 30 seconds away from sweeping the Packers last year. And a Hail Mary away from being 5-2. Like I mentioned in the previous post, they played Detroit, Minnesota and GB tight in consecutive weeks, losing those 3 games by a combined 7 points. They have a lot of pieces in place.

I don’t think Ben Johnson is too worried about the long term viability of the Lions.
Chicago not only solidified their unstable OL but turned into a real strength. They have no real holes on the roster but could definitely stand to get another dynamic edge rusher.

They were very competitive until the wheels fell off. They had a three game stretch where they lost to the Lions, Packers and Vikings by a combined 7 points.

It’s hard to imagine anyone had a better off season than they did. And they aren’t done yet, as they have strong draft assets, with that 39th pick from Carolina, in addition to their 10th and 41st picks. They can do whatever they want in the draft.

Your Ben Johnson comment was pretty lame. “The last we saw of him”… lol. Johnson did a fantastic job in Detroit annd they are going to miss him dearly. It’s hard to imagine Dan Campbell would’ve made it through 2022 if he didn’t have BJ. Aside from his offensive prowess, securing a top DC like Dennis Allen was a major coup, as was adding Eric Bienemy to his staff.
I guess we will see. Everyone gushed over Johnson and somehow nobody gets credit for the loss to Washington. Injuries, I get it. They gushed over the goofy plays like screens to Sewell and Jamo throwing go routes, even when they didn’t work. He also had a really corny comment in his intro presser.

I’m not rooting against him, but let’s not make him out to be Andy Reid until he wins a single game as a HC. I don’t think he was the right guy at the time. They needed a Vrabel type hire, even though I know he wasn’t really available. Johnson was hired to be Caleb Williams coach, and they needed a cultural overhaul. We will see…

You can't discount three and a half years of quality production from his unit because of Detroit's last game.

The Bears didn't need a cultural overhaul, they needed three new interior OL and a quality play caller at the helm while letting someone like Dennis Allen take over a top tier defense. They checked off all those boxes before the draft and now have the freedom to do whatever they want in the draft. Adding Grady Jarrett to their defense was just another bonus for them.

This is the perfect time for them to ascend as Detroit has appeared to peak and will have a tough time replicating their successes from the last 2 years without Johnson in control of the offense.

The Bears need a cultural overhaul. Absolutely do, and maybe Johnson can do that. Maybe. They had players quitting and pouting mid game and all of the obvious cultural problems. They also needed an O line. Sound familiar to a team we care about?

They had a very good roster last year, and in theory it should be better. Caleb needs to continue to grow and not rely on freelancing and dancing, maybe Johnson is the guy to correct that.

Their organization is pretty terrible. Cheap ownership. Kevin Warren was hired to build a stadium. Poles is doing fine, but he was handed a good hand to work with, and he is cheap, very young, and inexperienced. Eberflus was retained last offseason to buy that regime more time before dominoes fell. The organization doesn’t handle expectations well

They already replaced their 3 weak spots on the interior with quality upgrades, although the left side of the OL could use more reinforcement.

They will draft an OL for sure, but not because they need him to start right away. They could stand to upgrade from LT Braxton Jones, who's been solid, but missed a couple games the last 2 seasons. They have the assets to move up to get Will Campbell, having Carolina's 39th overall pick as well as their own 41st overall pick in round 2. They could possibly use one of those picks and a 2026 2nd rounder to move up to 3rd or 4th to secure insurance for Braxton Jones or Jonah Jackson, on the left side. Very few teams are in a better position to move up this year than Chicago is, if they want to. Or they could just sit and wait for their picks and just select the BPA. There should be some talented RB's available to them in the 2nd and 3rd rounds as well, so I think they are sitting pretty.

I think they have the right QB, HC, GM in place, I'm a big believer in all 3, especially the QB. And they have the assets to nail down their final needs. They have to prove it obviously because talk is cheap, but this is one team I wish I could buy stock in right now.

I think the QB is where we are largely disconnected. I’m not convinced Caleb Williams is that guy. Maybe he is, but I think he’s further away than the hype.

I also think Poles was handed a great hand and has done okay, but he’s already had to replace the HC he hired once. I would probably/possibly prefer him over Grier because he does invest in the lines at least

So that's where we disagree, I am a big believer in that kids abilities. His talent is off the charts, I know some people don't like his personality, but I don't have one problem with him. I think he's got the right mind set to be great, which is something he really wants to be. The kid wasn't put on earth to be just another QB.

I believe he has ability. I also can’t get that Notre Dame game out of my head from his Junior year. I also am not a believer in Lincoln Riley QBs until year 3-5 at least, once he’s fully worked out of their system.

Also, watching that Hard Knocks, when it was goofing off time, he was locked in. When it was learning time, he seemed like an intern to me. I dunno. I also think they probably got at best the 3rd best QB in that class. I truly hope he proves me wrong

That game reminds me of the week 2 Buffalo game in which Tua "threw" three INT's as well. Those plays had more to do with their teams not being up to par, than his actual ability, IMO. When you look at the rest of their bodies of work, you can clearly write those off as aberrations. The kid has played a lot of other football games over the last 4 years and the tape is jaw dropping at times.

I think going to USC was a rather large mistake on his part, but given the circumstances, it's understandable that he chose to follow Lincoln Riley.

I couldn't think of a better place for him to be right now than with Ben Johnson.

Stephon Gilmores younger brother has been crushing the UFL, I always like siblings of successful players they usually end up as solid pros.

Think he’s definitely worth a camp invite, he’s only 25 and has a lot of staring experience…think he can make the team as the 6th DB

This was his scouting report when he was draft eligible, he’s def improved a couple of those weaknesses

3 out of the top 4 remaining FAs are CB…I really don’t trust the experience in our room at CB without Ramsey so I’d love to sign one of these guys to give us a veteran mentor for the young guys

I couldn't believe the Lions let him go. I thought he did great when given the opportunity. Would love to pick him up on the Dolphins.
