Frerotte vs his own recievers

On the fumble-TD, there were seven guys lined up on the LOS. Randy and Heath went out on pass patters while Ricky stepped up to block. The Steelers rushed all four LBs and three DLs. They basically flooded the left side.

The OL actually did a nice job on this play with the exception of James Farrior. Everybody slid left and created a nice wall. And Ricky threw an outstanding cut block on 300-pound Aaron Smith on the middle right while Stockar McDougle tried to get over left and pickup Farrior, who was charging what was the A gap.

Stockar actually did get his hands on Farrior. But Farrior was already parallel with him and charging past, getting on Frerotte 1.5 seconds after the snap of the ball and slapping the ball out, just after Frerotte had brought his arm up to throw the endzone fade up top to Booker, who had 1-on-1 with the CB. That's just a really tough assignment for a RT to pick up.

Tough play for the Dolphins. This looked like the result the Steelers had in mind when they drew it up, with three defenders immediately coming in free on the middle/right. Ricky was able to take out the big guy in the 'middle'. The LOLB also was free on the right, but he would not have gotten there.

The Dolphins seemed to have a good play on. Pittsburgh just had a better one.

Marty Booker did no wrong in this game. When Gus threw passes to him, he caught them. When Gus threw passes in his general vicinity, he made an effort to make a play but just came up short. You can't expect more from any receiver. Chris Chambers did the same thing tonight.

Aside from those passes, Gus made some bad throws to RBs. The one that sticks out in my mind was one way over Ricky's head that could have very well been an interception.

Randy McMichael was Gus's biggest enemy. He was doing his Donald Lee impression and was the only receiver Gus seemed to hit in the chest who couldn't make the catch.

It was a night to forget if you ask me. My read on the AJ situation was that he was set up to fail tonight after what Gus did. That's fine with me, too. I understand why Nick wouldn't want to have AJ throw downfield and do well because Gus is going to be the starter.
I totally agree with your post, I also add that Frerotte was brought down here to be the starter, under the excuse of his familiar with the system... well I really dont see this familiarity at all....is going to be hard for Feeley to claim the starting job, even if plays better, Gus is comfortable in Linehan corner.

For one thing you said booker did no wrong. Do you remember on i think it was a 3rd and 15 play Frerrote made a perfect pass to the sidelines on a deep out route and it hit booker right in the hands and should have been a easy first down but ofcourse he dropped it. then on that deep pass, booker is a pretty big physical reciever and he was going against a small corner and he just let the corner take control instead of getting position and making a better attempt at the catch. Frerotte got away from the pass rush perfect and made the best play possible and booker should atleast make a better attempt at the ball. that throw to ricky was tipped at the line of scrimmage and that is why it flew over ricky's head. and that first deep ball thrown to chambers was underthrown but there was double coverage on him and he put it only where chambers could get to it. It hit his hands and if chambers wants to be known as a #1 reciever in the NFL he will make catches like that. I bet randy moss or hines ward would have made that catch.

That's exactly my thoughts. He wants as many balls thrown his way as the Harrisons and the Moss' and he can't slow up and readjust on that play. :shakeno:
