Fritz Pollard Alliance: Ray Farmer "mulling over" 2nd interview

Maybe he is isoing himself from Aponte and wants to make a call on Joe at the end of next year. That would reasonable and smart. Without those guarantees, how is supposed to turn the ship around?

Ross should simply promote Gaine.

We have spent the last week puffing up Farmer to the media and I am sure internally(through Peterson). The fins may have overplayed their hand.
The thing is at the end of the day Farmer is in Cleveland which is by far a greater dumpster fire than Miami. He will take the interview, but there is something he is angling for though I don't know what that is.

I don't trust this report...

But if Farmer DOES turn down the interview to stay in a dumpster fire like Cleveland in a lower capacity... WHOo BoY!!! Do we have problems!

Another angle that may be here.
John Wooten is a a big Browns homer. Probably steered Farmer to them in the beginning.
I wonder if this is a power play to give him more power with the Browns.

Why jump to that? It depends who we actually hire at that point.

Plus if he wants to stay where he is, who are we to judge that and make up all kinds inferences that may or may not exist?

I've made it clear many times that I'm lukewarm on Farmer, but I don't think this "if he's turning down the interview why do we want him" thing is putting the blame in the right place.

The blame should properly go to the Dolphins for so goddamn confusing and obtuse about their organizational structure that it is turning off these candidates. Why are we doing this? I can't blame a guy for considering turning down a 2nd job interview if the first didn't make it particularly clear what the job entails, or who he'll be reporting to. This isn't a job stacking boxes. This is a job as the general manager for a billion dollar company.

There have been reports that Ross is floating all kinds of weirdo organizational structures. Farmer as GM with Gaine getting a promotion. Farmer and Xanders together. It's just weird. Ross needs to figure his **** out before he gets into a room with these guys, because his act is turning them off.

How much bull**** do we have to ensure before we realize never to trust Twitter until verified my multiple Twitter sources.

LaCanfora is the Twitter's version of gossip queen.

Those stories were not about dysfunctional power structures, it was about unclear power structures. And they weren't unwarranted. The Dolphins have broached different power structures with different candidates and some of the candidates have gone away confused.

With all due respect Walrus but the only ones who created unclear power structures were some bloggers with Salguero taking the lead role.

The Dolphins always had the same power structure in place. People like Salguero who supported Ireland created the alternate reality in which Aponte was the reason Ireland got canned. That was extended into "the GM has to report to Aponte" because she was sitting in on interviews. And I do hope that Aponte sits in during GM candidate interviews. After all the new GM and her have to be in sync when it comes to player acquisitions and player contracts.

But the truth is that Ireland created enough reasons to get himself fired. First he tried to get Aponte fired because she put a foot down on his spending spree. Combine this (not working as a team) with his tenure of 6 years it was a warning sign. But what I believe tipped the scale in the last two weeks of the season was that Ireland talked trash about Philbin behind Philbin's back. A GM always has to work with the money side of the football operations and the coaches. He poisoned both working relationships. It was not Aponte who got him fired. It was Ireland who got himself fired.

The power structure was always the same: Ireland also reported to the CEO and Ross directly. The creation of the 'unclear power structure' was a creation of the lovely 'media'.

This is a stretch.
Where are these reports coming from? I have followed this fairly closely.
The process has been lengthy and we have interviewed a ton of candidates so I think there have been moments where people are just running with theories.

I do believe that the dolphins are trying to float a weak executive/collaborative model which may be turning of some to many candidates. Thats our prerogative and I think we should stick to our guns.

Because if Farmer turns us down after consistent being considered a front runner, that will be like the 6th candidate to turn us down. And this was a guy who had genuine interest to begin with, otherwise he wouldn't have interviewed the first time. If he turns down a 2nd interview opportunity when he is the front runner for the job, that must mean that the Dolphins have some major internal problems. Not that we didn't already know that...

Ross' tenure here is starting to sound like a Dylan song...

"How many times must a man get turned down, before he begins to understand..."

Didn't Ross release a news release concerning that?

Think about it this way. There are two options.

1. The Dolphins press release from a few weeks back is accurate and the job is being described clearly to everyone. The multiple reporters who have said the discussions of the power structure have been confusing -- to the point where candidates are calling each other asking for clarification -- are making it all up. Lies, damn lies and LaCanfora.

2. The Dolphins press release was not entirely accurate, or at best reflected intentions that then changed.

If you want to believe the Dolphins' press release go ahead. I don't.

Again, if he wants to stay where he is that is his right. The rest is nothing more than conjecture on your part. It may be right, more than likely it is very wrong seeing as how he already interviewed for the job!

The media does what it does, because there are ppl out there like you. You appear to constantly forget what the media is all about and what their intentions are. They feed it because some ppl will always eat it up!

I wonder if this is a power play to give him more power with the Browns.

“That’s why we put him (Farmer) in Cleveland last year,” Wooten said in a telephone interview Thursday.
