Fritz Pollard Alliance reverses stance

All for Ross' definitive statement. I am a supporter of more minority candidates getting interviews for GM openings, but I was against the Fritz Pollard Alliance telling potential candidates not to interview. They're grown men. I'm sure when they interviewed, they would ask the right questions and make sure their contracts had the right language.

When trying to decide where you stand on that issue, would you say your first reaction was:

A)

Or B)

This back and forth BS is giving me a headache. Time to put up or shutup.

If I wanted to watch a Table Tennis match I'd move to china.

Reason for edit:

Just saved you huge flak from the Chinese and little tennis enthusiasts

I'm not racist, actually, I'm about as far from racist as possible. During my college football career I had three black roommates, and my god mother was black. Having said that, why do we have to have the Rooney Rule and Fritz Pollard associations? There are quite a few minorities in GM/ HC positions.. and successful too.. Jerry Reese, Mike Tomlin, Lovie Smith etc. Why can't a man be judged by his character and his football IQ rather than his skin color? Also, why do you have to interview a minority candidate before making a hire, but the Bucs can hire Lovie without interviewing a non-minority. Big time double standard. I think the Rooney Rule actually sets back minority candidates. Because some teams are just looking to find their minority candidate to get the Rooney Rule out of the way, rather than look at hiring a minority for a GM/HC position.

The Rooney Rule doesn't demand you hire someone. In other words, it's not a quota. It just makes sure you're interviewing at least one minority candidate. Given that there are, as you point out, many minority candidates available for every opening, if you're not interviewing any of them for your job opening, doesn't that indicate that perhaps you're doing something wrong? Simply going on the interviews can help guys get their name around and put them in front of people who otherwise wouldn't necessarily want to talk to them. I think it's a good thing.

The Fritz Pollard Alliance is just an advocacy group for minority candidates for the high positions. I don't think anyone would argue that minorities are underrepresented at the head coach and coordinator level given the overall numbers of minority candidates in the job pool, which means that they still have work to do.

I just think there may be a better way of going about it
