The minute you think racism is dead it'll raise its ugly head again. The NFL may be making some minute headway but don't kid yourself MP

Jesus, I make a Texas joke and everyone thinks it's serious biz.

Racism is a consequence of collectivist thinking that screwed up the world. Good thing we have sports teams or we might be killing people based on hair color.

The term Black is not revolutionary. Lots of blacks use it. The term AA is still used, and the two can be interchangeable but often used in different context. Many blacks living in America come from other nations, so sometimes they prefer black to AA. The term people of color I sometimes think started out as a unifying term to include biracial blacks in the black community, and brown people,..however at times it's a term to seemingly segregate white people from all other colors, unfortunately. Regarding black on the color wheel, it is all colors not devoid of color. Often is artwork in fact black is never quite black, it's brownish black, purple-ish black, etc. This is all very OT but since it was brought up I commented on it.

Full disclosure I am a white American of Italian heritage.

your kidding, right?

probably need another forum for this, but, go breakdown in COMPTON and come back [if you live] and tell us all about the dying racism.

go to east l/a, baldwin park, la puenta and hang out. see how long you "welcome"!!

go ask an asian or asian store owner in the compton/watts area how their treated, if they experience any racism. what do you call WILDING and the KNOCK OUT GAME? blacks are not the targets. and its getting worse, especially in las vegas, nevada.

come to arizona and see the illegal hispanics throwing rocks at whites and at their cars. beating white kids in schools. spray painting anti white slogans and taunts on white owned homes and businesses. you dont get a lot of media coverage on that because it would go against the communist agitators and race baiters image of arizona being the desert harbor for white racists. cant have the truth get out!!

just way to broad a statement DLOCKZ.

I would say overall over time racism is down. Of course there are still way too many instances of racism but I have stayed in Liberty City for an extended amount of time and somehow survived lol.
Racism is definitely not more prevelant now than years ago.

I'll say it like it is...

Because they aren't white -> which further perpetuates "distinctions" in and of themselves and why i can't stand the Rooney Rule -> they should tank it and let the teams find the best person for the job.

The Rooney rule is a slap in the face for the guy who is really not being interviewed for a position, but is really being summoned to appease a rule. It would PISS me OFF!

Let the teams figure it out, they figured out that they can win with Black QBs. Because they WANT TO WIN..., more han they want to hold prejudice. Just let the teams figure it out

well there is not right answer because facts speak for themselves. There number of black hired coaches has been way more since the Ronney rule, before that it was disgraceful.
It was bound to be that way with majority owners being old white dudes. There are very few black gms so that's why they want to expand rule. there is no right answer in time it may not be needed

I've been through Compton many times. Growing up playing basketball in North County San Diego, you play a lot of ball in the LA area. If you're talking about gang activity and people in low-income areas willing to break the law to make a buck, that obviously exists, but I never felt discriminated against because I'm white or in danger because I'm white. A rough area is a rough area, and outsiders of all colors should be aware of their surroundings, but it's nothing like the racism I see everyday in the middle-to-upper class Tampa Bay area. If someone in Compton is willing to hurt you, it's because you're vulnerable - not because you're white.

I agree that some of the application of the Rooney rule has been uneven. Many interviews are cursory and a waste of time, but I don't completely devalue the reasons for the process. I'll give you an example that's become a very recent problem. When you look around all 32 NFL teams, how many have an African-American in an offensive coordinator or QB coach position? Sure, you can find defensive coordinators, linebacker coaches, defensive line coaches, secondary coaches...but there are only 3 teams that currently have African-American offensive coordinators. Harold Goodwin (Cardinals), Pep Hamilton (Colts), Jim Caldwell (Ravens). With Jay Gruden getting the head job with the skins, Hue Jackson might slide on up in Cincinnati to make it 4.

Now look at the head coaching vacancies and who teams are interviewing. With the league designed as it is now, teams are increasingly looking to offensive coordinators as head coaches. It's a problem that very likely doesn't sort itself out on its own. I dug this article up from 2012. Just have a read and give it some thought. http://espn.go.com/espn/commentary/...de-nfl-hires-offensive-defensive-coordinators

We really need to stop trying to show that black men have an uphill battle succeeding or getting in to the NFL. It's absurd. 10% of the league is white. Racism is absolutely dead in the NFL and there isn't a man, regardless of his color, that deserves a shot on a team coaching that won't get it. NFL teams want the best person for their situation and I never see color even mattering. If you do, you are simply looking for something and creating it. It's not there!! "non-black" men are the minority in football....fact.
Requiring a team to give anyone an interview because of their skin color is creating separation between them and "other races". It's wrong and needs to be taken out.

Disclaimer: I've given it several times but, I am a white man with an adopted bi-racial son. I chose a child of a different race, took him home the day after he was born and he is the greatest thing in the world in my life. I do not see color....and until we all see a person, and not a color, this will never end.

Well the proof was in the pudding before the rooney rule there were very few black coaches in history, that NUMBER HAS MULTIPLIED BECAUSE of the rule. There has been no rooney rule on GM's and how many black gm's have there been in the history of the nfl. In 2007 Jerry Reese became the third black GM in NFL history.

Before the Rooney rule there had been like 6 minority hires, since the rooney rule 13 minorities were head coaches. That's in 10 years.
So yes there still has been an uphill climb. The Rooney rule only gets an interview. The overwhelming majority of hires for head coach even with that are white.
