Future of Miami's Backfield

I know im just an OU/Dolphin fan (I know wierd combo) I just like Peterson alot and I thought it would be kool. But yea im glad we got Ronnie he is prob a better Rb all aorund than Peterson. Ronnie can catch, leave u in the dust, block, and move. These r the things Peterson needs to work on for OU to actually win a championchip.

you have to think realistically tho man, we wont have the first pic and have a low pic at all, and it is nice to have favorites and hope for things just back it up with some reality man

I'm learning to accept the fact that Ricky's coming back. I'm not too happy about it, but I don't call the shots in the front office. Brown is the future of our team in the backfield, not Ricky. I just hope that he contributes more yards than problems.

Brown is the future, 'nuff said.

Ricky? showcase and trade'em.

H2 is the future at Rb and he and Ricky will spell each other off this season. Ricky will be better than he was a season ago as his shoulders were aching and he just have good jump in those legs. Next season Ricky could be traded for a mid round draft pick certainly not a top-flite draft-pick or player due to his history and all.

With an imporoved cohesive o-line look for the boys to run into and over a lot of people I don't see them juking anyone.

u heard it here first....RICKY WILL NOT BE TRADED...no matter what he does he has the stigma of someone who may quit at any time... no team will give up a decent draft pick for him because of that...and Saban will not trade him for nothing...lets just hope he can return to form and give us that 4,000 yards he promised, then he can go away and let Ronnie take over.

dude were not gettin Peterson in the 2007 draft we have ronnie In 2007 we will get marrcus vick
Marcus Vick is an over-rated piece of... well let's not get into that. I hate how people on this site talk about that guy like he's his brother.

I remember a time, before Ricky, when everyone was wishing and crying for a 1,000 yard running back. Now that we have potentially 4 of them, given the opportunity, people are griping about "wasting a draft pick". Make up your minds. I for one and happy we finally have a backfield that is not just talented, but deep as well. Nevermind the fact that we could easily trade 1 or 2 of these guys away for picks next year.

Ronnie Brown is not going to be overlooked. He is our future at running back for a long time to come. Assuming that Ricky can even stay focused he will only be around 1 or 2 seasons if the phins are lucky.

I want to go back to the question asked in the title of this thread, the future of RB for the Dolphins. We have two "pure" FB's Evans and Martin. When we are in a two-back set we could use the traditonal lead blocker and those guys will be fine.

But we also have two backs who are "tweeners" between RB and FB, Brown and Morris. With Gordon having a great off-season and Ricky perhaps coming back(both "power" TB types), I don't think its much of a stretch to expect us to use a set which will have two multi-purpose backs behind the QB and very differant looks for a defense to worry about.

Perhaps not so much RB by committee as differant guys for differant offensive packages. It would be a lot for a defense to prepare against especially if you throw in both McMike and the potential for solid three WR sets using Chambers, Booker, and Boston.

Ricky will be in the NFL 2 years tops (he said it himself) just so he can keep his Ferraris and mansions. So in essence Ricky has 8.6 million reasons to come back. And who wouldn't? He doesn't want to file bankruptcy. Was Wannstedt that bad of a coach to make a guy give up all that wealth for marijuana and actually consider bankrupcy as a good alternative? Apparently so because Nick Saban handled the situation perfectly.Ricky should be Saban's waterboy for allowing him to come back.

After being so cursed last year, we are getting many blessings this year. Yes Ricky's Return is a blessing. Now we have a tandem of Ricky and Ronnie. With Ricky we have seen what he is capable of and hopefully he can regain some of that form. Even if he is half the RB he used to be he is still better than most RBs in the league. With Ronnie we don't know how he will turn out, I for one think he will be a stud but there are always the usual busts. But what better scenario could we be in? Ronnie is a ROOKIE, and rookies take time to develop and adapt to the pro game. Ronnie will get plenty of touches, but will not have to handle the pressures that are associated with being the starting RB. Gordon, Morris and Ricky can all handle the pressure situations, if as a rookie, Ronnie is not ready to handle them. Ronnie will have time to develop into a Star just as Ricky is on his way out. This is how championship teams are formed, they draft replacements before they have the desperate need for them, that way when they need them they are developed players and not fresh rookies.
