Gaine has no pride if he takes Dolphins job now

Well In Casarios case he has been with a great organization for 10 years and who knows what was actually said in interview. Why leave if you will have less say than u want and maybe lose your job in a year just because Philbin doesn't get it done. I was hoping to get him but Belichek and Kraft have done a lot more for him than Ross has to this point.

IMO, Casarios was never really serious about the job. I think he pulled a Ryan Clark on us, and Ross fell for it. But as for Gaines, at this point you go with him. It should have been him to start with once Philbin was retained. Philbin was hired based on a philosophy and vision. The GM needs to share that vision. Gaines offers continuity. For good or bad.

The OP was basically calling out Gaines integrity. Shallow to say the least.

In business, people decline to accept job offers every day and the person next in line is given an opportunity. Sometimes it works out well and sometimes it doesn't. The difference here is that Nick Caserio probably informed the cheese factory the offer the moment he received it and they had the media set up to publicly communicate the decline.
Time to dust ourselves off and get on another horse.

I think if you don't hire Gaine it makes this situation worse.
What if Dawson or Hickey were seriously perceived as the second best candidate? We know that Dawson is extremely polished and articulate and has been earmarked as a future GM. With a progressively higher percentage of black players, there is a lot of merit in appointing a black GM if he is the next best candidate. We also know that Hickey's expertise is the systematic analysis of college footballers, which is something that we probably need. He has the most experience and wasn't considered for the Tampa Bay GM role but part of that role includes the negotiating component that Dawn Aponte handles here. On the surface, if he's allowed to focus on his area of expertise and is not into the power, he could be a better fit. I say we pick the second best and if that happens to be Brian Gaine, OK.

No one of any substance wants anything to do with this job

actually, i think its the other way around.

the DOLPHINS BRASS do not want anyone of substance. they need a whipping boy for the 3 headed aponte mafia. thats the criteria. who can fit in and not rock the aponte boat.

seems this whole thing is about not having anymore turmoil in the office and messing with the aponte mafia. they need to fill a roll, not a TRUE gm spot, not a true talent guy who can run the draft.

parcells was the first scapegoat. ireland the second. and even though he was LONG overdue getting the axe, i dont think ross canned jeff for the right reasons. i dont think ross saw all irelands flaws in bringing in talent and free agents, personality, loyalty and reputation. he was a thorn in ross approved power structure. he was fired because he rocked the aponte boat. ross never got the BIG picture that we need a guy who can TRUELY evaluate and draft college talent. irelands worst trait! and still doesnt.

parcells was the problem. ross got on tv and said just that, with fireland by his side. in a barry switzer-ish way, he proclaimed, "were gonna do it our way baby"!! he said we would all see great things now that he and ireland were now running the buss. that failed!! now ireland is out and in ross's mind, he and dawn and brian and garfunkle can do the job. they dont need no stinking gm to mess things up!!

ross just doesnt learn. brilliant real estate guy, awful nfl guy.

We also know that Hickey's expertise is the systematic analysis of college footballers, which is something that we probably need.

we PROBABLY need? are you kidding me?

this is the ABSOLUTE thing we need and biggest reason we have failed over the last 15 years!! we havnt had a guy in here who can draft or TRUELY evaluate draft picks or free agents!

probably? WOW!!!!

i like hikcey a lot. if xander is really out as reported, hickey is my guy hands down. why? because this gm searches FIRST criteria in hiring a new gm should have EXCELLENT TALENT ELEVATOR in front of his name!! just not getting the feel that talent aquisition is not what they want. a face for the aponte mafia seems to be the plan.

Gaines offers continuity.

continuity of what? jeff ireland? he and jeffy were the ones who sank the talent ship on this team. he should have been chucked out with ireland!!

and now folks want "continuance" from irelands lacky? really? no one seems to be focusing on what the team REALLY needs, a TRUE gm, a guy who CAN evaluate college talent and run a draft.

all i see on this baord now is "he fits in with aponte", or, "hes been here, its continuance" instead of WHERE IS OUR TALENT EVALUATOR? why are so few of the fans not demanding this?

you cant blame ross for disregarding the fans when he knows, in the end, they will fall into any bandwagon he sets them on. "ok, yeah, gaine, he makes sense. lets get it over with, he has been here and dawn loves him". he consideres the fans as PATSIES and not the cash source we are. and you cant blame him when the fan base continually rolls over and shows their belly!!!

I just hope when they name Gaine as the GM, they don't say he was their number one candidate all along.:rolleyes2:

First, I think we all need to let the story come out so we can understand what actually happened here. Many of the reports I'm seeing are that Caserio used the Phins for leverage with the Pats and never intended to actually leave. Yet, after turning down multiple interview requests in the past , he accepted ours? Why? Did this makes the Pats nervous and it created better leverage? This is my opinion here, but I think when this all comes out....we are going to be really pissed at Caserio.

Gaine was a good option a week ago, a day ago and still is today. I think it is fair to say he is actually the more experienced of the two candidates when it comes to actually handling the GM responsibilities.

How so because they created a position that most teams don't have called assistant GM. How is Brian Gaine more experienced than any of the canidates

Dimitroff shouldn't of taken the falcons job also since he wasn't first choice

Actually, I think Scott Pioli just accepted the Asst. GM job with the Falcons. I don't think it is as rare as you might think.

Also, as an Asst. GM, he has been conducting and been exposed to the duties of the GM, as opposed to someone who hasn't.

So Brian how do you feel about being the 9th candidate in line?

Man you just don't get it. Its about the system homie. Please follow along.

Once Philbin was retained, you need a GM that believes in the philosophy and system he brought with him once he was hired. Where in the **** did I say a word about Ireland? Jesus, you and phisxhead...really have a issue in putting words in peoples mouths.
