  • First and most important, if Chad Henne continues to play like this, we now have a quarterback. If that's something we found out from this game, then we found out an awful lot. Of course one game does not make a quarterback, but surely you have to be glad Chad Henne didn't go out there and lay an egg. Imagine how you'd feel right now if you coupled the outcome of the game with the fact that Chad Henne played horribly. Instead, you get to feel hopeful that we indeed have a quarterback who can help us win games during the remaining 15.
  • Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush provide weapons that need to be accounted for on offense. Those two players alone can get a team down the field.
  • Anthony Fasano looked tremendous. Someone gave him an injection of athleticism at some point, because his agility and ball skills looked much improved. That's a huge weapon for Henne if it continues.
  • The defense got shredded, no doubt about it, but I can promise you this: LOTS of defenses will be shredded by this New England offense this year. Mark my words. Tom Brady is engineering an offense that can attack you with multiple weapons, and he knows how to pick you apart with it. We won't be the only team that looks woeful against New England this year, trust me.
  • That said, cutting Will Allen was a definite mistake. I'd be on the phone to him ASAP, and Nolan Carroll would be gone.
Anyway, I don't think a whole lot more can be said from one game. This is one game folks. It's way too early to be making grand conclusions and pronouncements about this team. I know you're emotional, and that's fine, but realize there are 15 games left, and a whole lot more football to be played. Realize we played one of the best teams in the league tonight, and find some strengths we didn't have last year, first and foremost the play of Chad Henne, which again is huge.

EDIT: Two additional points I should've made originally, one positive, one negative: 1) the offensive line didn't look nearly as bad as many, myself included, had anticipated, and 2) the inside pass rush (Starks, Odrick, Merling) was an area of concern, as QBs like Brady need a pass rush in their face up the middle if you're going to combat them adequately.

This defense is disgusting..no heart. Nolan Carroll is horrible and I cant see how he made this team over will allen

Great post you are right on the money. No 3rd nickel in the NFL can cover Welker one on one. We are fine. RELAX.

This game sucked - but I think your post was right on. Just shredded by Brady and really Hernandez.

That 99-yarder was terrible but not worse than the 4 and 1. I honestly thought Chad should've just tried to sneak it in... would've changed everything.

Regardless - the most frustrating thing was seeing how gassed the defense was. Need to go 2-2 heading into the Bye.

Benny Sapp looked like he was walking in tree sap all game..

I don't mind a good whipping early in the season, especially to an offense and qb like that (no one else in the nfl presents the problems of personnel/package/matchup/precision accuracy). I'm actually feeling good about this season after tonight.

Good Post. Whats hard to swallow is we had an entire off season to prepare for this team and it didn't show tonight. No answer for their hurry up, no answer for their TE's.

Yes, the off season was abreviated but it was that way for the Patriots too.

We had no answers for the Brady attack. None!

For the defense, this isn't just one game. We know there are things that this defense does really well, but the pass coverage has not ever been that good. The turnover numbers say it all, we just don't have anyone who can ever make plays in the secondary. Opposing offenses may have avoided completely exposing them last year, but passing against this team seems to be a matter of will because there is hardly a guy on the team that can get in front of a pass even to block it.

Good post.

Now as an opposing fan that watched the game... One thing I would be very concerned about is Coaching. Where was the MIA conditioning in their heat and home field. To have a "cold weather" team come in and out work you in the heat would worry me as a fan on how these guys practice. It looked to me that the Fins have been practicing in A/C and never exposed to the MIA weather.

Now I will say Henne proved alot today with an OC that does not coach him into checkdown mode. Now to answer the questions that will remain is if he can string games like this together. If the Media and everyone is drooling over what Cam Newton did in a lost they should be doing the same thing over Henne, I thought he played very well today.

Another thought is the Defense, for having a top defense I dont know I did not see it, alot of hole in your D Backfield tonight, and a front 7 that is supposed to be very tough and deep I did not see it, the only one I saw play woth alot of intensity all game was Wake.

Marshall looked like the Marshall of old, though looked to still have some communication issues with Henne in the Redzone but think that can be worked out.

And an honest Opinion of Bush..... As a opposing fan I was more concerend with Ronnie and Ricky than I am of Bush, he does not impress me as an every down back and I get this feeling that your coaching staff wants to prove everyone wrong with that thinking and ultimately I think that will fail.

Yea it wasn't a horrible game...offensively. Defense was just ****ing dumb as ****. Henne looked great, but he didn't play well at the goal-line. Look we played one of the best QB's ever, and he put up career numbers against us. I have some questions and concerns (actually I have a lot of questions but I'll limit myself):

Where did Burnette disappear to?
What the **** were we thinking letting go of Allen and keeping Carol?
Benny Sapp other than the freak pick caused by him?
Mother ****ing pass rush!!!?
Run defense anyone?
Boneheaded holding calls my incognitus? Your ****ing holding calls man!
Henne on the goal line- Dude you gotta pick different throws in there. He had one good pass to Hartline in the endzone but that's it.
Jason Trusnik can't block on special teams without getting a penalty. That's an exaggeration, but two holding calls there.

All in all this doesn't leave us in a very bad position for the season...unless the D can't do **** about the middle of the field. THe middle was just wide ****ing open all night. This was a good game to gauge where we are at as a team. We aren't there yet...clearly. We can get there, but I don't know how.

good post...we also have to remember that they did it to the jets last year too... 45-3... i believe...

Can we candidly say that Columbo looks miserable on passing downs? That was my biggest concern. Hopefully the Phins find more opportunity to establish a running game, b/c Henne is going to get killed by the right side line if he's constantly chucking the ball to play catch-up in games. That Wilfork sack was NASTY and a direct result of RG and RT wiffs. (major props to Chad for bouncing back up - that was a tough hit.) Yes - that was one play out of many, but what I saw several times was Columbo waving his hands above his head as a defender ran around him. It became expected after awhile. That looked bad.
