Game 1: A Calm, Reasonable, Balanced Perspective

Good post. Henne looked great. I know it the Pats and their D may still be highly suspect, but he made some big time throws and the scheme was refreshing. We tried to play cover 2 a lot and didn't really throw out blitz packages. Its the sword or dagger with this team. The pats have developed tons of players that can expose the middle of the field. They don't care about great recievers. they want te's and rbs that can work underneath. It is gonna be tough to stop. We rebound next week.

My concerns:

- Considering he was facing a rookie RT I expected more from Wake. He looked really gassed at times and didn't get off the ball as quickly as I recall from last year. JT and Misi really didn't do anything from the other side.
- Props to Henne for playing a good game but he did get lucky on a few dropped picks. I'm worried he just doesn't have that clutch factor that great QBs have and all his long passes were overthrown.
- We went from power running team to finesse running. With no real options for short and goal it makes it easier for teams to defend.
- Bring Will Allen back please.

Agree with everything and could not have said it better myself. Especially about Henne. As crappy as it is to lose, I am OK with tonight's game. The offense is lightyears ahead of last year's garbage. Despite just about one of the the worst defensive performances that I can remember watching from the Dolphins, the team was one yard away from cutting it to 7 points in the 4th quarter.

And you're right on about Marshall and Bush. I don't have all that high hopes for Bush, but you can see the potential of what he can do for this offense. I think they need to not force him to be a between the tackles runner, though. Even though he showed he can, I just think they need to use him in other ways. I guess you got to keep the defense honest, but I just saw too much of it from him for my liking.

The defense showed nothing tonight. I'll chalk this up to not being prepared well by Nolan, and playing against Brady. If they show up against next week, and look this inept, then I'll be concerned. I'd put money down that they play pretty damn well next week though. This game will wake em up.

And finally Henne. He looked great. He looked like a playmaker tonight. He was throwing passes only his guy could get, played with poise, ran for TDs and 1st downs, eluding pressure, and just not making any truly stupid throws like we've become accustomed to see. People wanted Orton over the offseason, and I admit, I think it would have been nice to bring him in. But all he is is a game manager. He won't go out and take away a game from anyone. As ****ty as the defense was, Henne was doing what he could to take this one away. I didn't see this from him in years past, but I saw it tonight. This is the most important thing that I'm taking away from tonight. Sure it's only one game. I'm not predicting him to keep playing like this. But if he can... then we have our QB. I'm not talking about 300+ yards every night. But he made the plays when we needed them. The 2nd half shows you what he can do when you limit penalties and give him decent field position.

Hi new guy here

I think two things contributed to lack of conditioning the lock out is one, all those voluntary summer camps that aren't really voluntary were all killed, also part of the new collective bargain agreement is easier practice sessions which include the amount that can be run and how many can be run with full equipment on. Not good for a team that plays in such humid conditions.

No run defense, letting Woodhead gain 5 yards a clip while your DB's have to run wind sprints with the WR's every down doesn't help either

The OL is horrid but I think we all knew that already, but if we see how obvious it is how can the FO/coaching staff not see it and then make a game plan of running Reggie up the gut? I don't know what we really have in Reggie yet but i do know that he isn't the type of RB who is going to blast through the line if there are no solid holes and lanes for him just not going to happen. Also were was the change of pace back LJ/Hillard? Sometimes you need that bruiser back that wears down the defense. You know when Koppel was carted off the field a critical position I thought great a place to exploit (not that i wish harm on anyone just logical application) but they never skipped a beat how is it we have the line of swiss and they got monsters on the bench and that was the second injury of the day on the Pats line and again it points to the FO/Staff.

Sparano and co. what a horrible prep and in game adjustment the only valuable game adjustment was that they realized running reggie wasn't working so that is the same as Sparano tacit acknowledgment that the OL was bad, which in turn caused the phins to leave two TD's on the field. I know LJ is new to the team but every RB knows the RB dive play such a keep it simple moment.

well with the defense your going to have too be at your very best to beat Brady today was not the case but your never as bad they say you are and they had some good moments but my god the bench secondary is awful again lack of vision from FO/STaff

On the good side how badass was Henne and the WR corps if they play like this the rest of the year we should be ok imagine if Henne had a decent line? He looked harassed on every play and still managed to get his. Now I'm not a Henne apologist he has to do this a bit more but it is a good start, and i have always felt with him hope for the best expect the worst but today he showed growth which is all you can ask at this point.

Keith Sims made a interesting comment the other day I don't remember where i read it but he was saying that Pouncey and Incognito should be switched that Pouncey's athleticism was being wasted on Center, at this point with the line why not get a bit radical? Carey and Columbo are who they are and are not going to get any better they must be replaced but at this stage it is probably to late

This defense is disgusting..no heart. Nolan Carroll is horrible and I cant see how he made this team over will allen

You know how ROSS "sucks up" to celebrities and the "in crowd". Well, CARROLL's Momma is the Lt.Governor of Florida! QED, baby!

Henne and the O did their job. The rest of the team did't show up. We will be chasing a 9-7 record this year at best.

My concerns:

- Considering he was facing a rookie RT I expected more from Wake. He looked really gassed at times and didn't get off the ball as quickly as I recall from last year. JT and Misi really didn't do anything from the other side.

Wake could have more "bad games" like this and still end up with 16 sacks. He wasn't in there on every play, but there wasn't anyone else on defense getting back there at all. Kind of disappointing considering how good these guys are supposed to be (and Starks has been).

got to say henne showed that he belongs in the nfl, and the best part he did it on monday night, unreal 3 years wasted with henning when he could have done this since his rookie year, look at newton they probably told him do your thing and he had an awesome game yesterday

Just once could this team put together a complete performance? Just one time! It is so frustrating to always have things clicking on one side of the ball and nothing on the other side.

On the plus side, Henne did better than expected, Fasano stepped up, the receiving core was decent and we showed more guts on offense than we did all year last year.

On the downside, our defense has just been completely exposed. Cam Wake, our best defender got removed from the game by a rookie for an entire half! Ironically, Nate was a TE in high school which just doesn't make me feel any better. Nolan Carrol and Benny Sapp just do not have what it takes without heavy pressure from the DL...please bring Allan back.

Coaching pluses are the attacking offense, but everyone else on the coaching staff gets a D grade for the night. Conditioning was terrible and defensive scheme was weak. We have ALOT of work to do.

A positive spin,

The offense should get better with each game.

What we saw was a new offense implemented over a shorted period of time.

Again I think you have to give the Patriots and Bill Belichick credit for coming up with an offensive strategy (the no-huddle) that takes advantage of the effects of the lockout, namely conditioning and having less time to prepare your team.

I don't think there's a team in the league that could've come out there last night and looked any more prepared or conditioned in the first game of the post-lockout season against a Tom Brady-led no-huddle offense.

I think you have to blame the lockout and you have to give Bill Belichick and Tom Brady credit for finding a creative and effective way of taking advantage of it.

Good post. I'm actually not even mad about the loss. Was really encouraged with how Henne played and hope he can keep it up all season long.

We most likely aren't going to win the division but lets hope we can get a Wildcard spot.

Before the game I was watching an analysis from Mangini who said that the Dolphins should run the no-huddle. With the lock-out combined with the humidity it would wear out the New England D esp the 2 big guys in the middle. Seems the Pats had that idea all along. It put the Fins on there heels and they had no answer for it. If Miami scored quick it just put there defense back out on the field all the sooner. Brady showed he is one of the best in the game and took full advantage of the exhausted Dolphins D. Chad looked very poised and actually showed that he can even run. Kinda miss Polite for those short yardage plays, Lex is definately not the answer.

  • That said, cutting Will Allen was a definite mistake. I'd be on the phone to him ASAP, and Nolan Carroll would be gone.
.

Overall Good Post! "On the phone ASAP"...I would've been on the phone with Will Allen during the 3rd quarter asking; how fast he could get down here and suit up for the game. :)

Nolan Caroll looked bad last night. The look on his face, was the look of fear, and defeat.
