Game Time Power Rankings Offseason edition

List of Dolphins best players (Contracted/Free Agents) IMO these are players we should build our franchise around but I understand we might not be able to afford them all. Keep inmind the talent on this team after the starting position takes a dramatic drop, looking at the current roster the gap between starters isn't that much and the position I put them in are IMO of importance to the franchise.

I agree with most of the grades but some I must rebuttal.

Craplombo is a solid F nothing more.

Gates would brandish and incomplete in my opinion, there isn't enough evidence to grade him, the same could be said about Clay (I'm not saying they go, I think you keep them).

Bell is a C+ simply due to age and if he restructures you keep him if not (even though it creates another void to fill) you cut him.

Fasano is a B tight end, man never gets enough respect for what he does.

Soliai should be retained in my opinion but I think he has to be moved in order to clear a path for QB. It's honestly too bad he will be missed regardless of 43 or 34 defense.

Awesome feedback NY8123, I think your right about Fasano, Craplombo but keep in mind our depth earned Bell his high grade if it weren't for him imagine how bad our secondary really would have been. As far as Clay he was a surprise last year, i trusted if they cut Polite for him that he must be better than expected and to me he turned out alright for a rookie.

I do not want to see Bell go. I want him to restructure and stay one or two more years tops and retire a Phin. The need to address Free Safety this off-season is much greater than SS.

Offensively you have 1) QB 2) RT
Defensively you have 1) FS 2) DE/LB (34 or 43 dependent).

You move Jones back to SS to back up Bell and this also gives you time to address this need next season assuming Jones plays as ****y in the SS position as he did in the FS roll. If you bring in a guy like Nelson in from Cinci (which is a huge upgrade over Jones/Clemons/Culver it makes Bell more expendable because now you can fill the SS need via the draft in the later rounds but the tandem of Bell/Nelson with Jones/Culver backing them up would be spectacular in my opinion.

And yes you are right about Clay, I think in the right system the kid has huge potential. I can not wait to see how he fits into the new offense.

I expect Clay to be used as a H-back, we can use him as a TE when employing mutiple receiver sets or just a traditional lead blocker.

It will be interesting to see how Mike Sherman throws wrinkles in our offense, we could see Clay utilized more as a pass catcher which he has proven he can catch the rock!!! HAHA he was almost better than Hartline in 2011 HAHA!!!

Total Rec - 16
Total Yards - 233
Avg Yards per catch - 14.6
Longest catch - 46 yards
YAC - 5.1
TDs - 3

Bush will be the most important piece to our O along side the QB. he will line up in the backfield, and probably split out wide a fair amount of times. i expect him to be our offensive MVP and in the "probowl" when the season comesto an end.

I expect him to be elected to the probowl next year, but I also expect him not to be able to play because of another commitment the following week.

Karlos Dansby could blow out his season high tackle total (119) in the 4-3 front. Its going to allow him to be literally untouch and free to roam and make plays all over the field. He could definately break 140+ tackles if he stays healthy all year and could play rover pass coverage resulting in more chances at INT's.

I expect him to be our defensive MVP, unless Cameron Wake gets help opposite him and has a beast like year.

Columbo is a total F. He is just awful. Gates at a C- is rough, just to early to tell with him. The coaches did not use him enough at all last year. I am one on this board who is not a fan of Incrapito at All. I actually hope he is cut. His cap space is worth more than he is. To many time does he wiff when he is pulling, which for some reason people think he is good at. And for a mauler, he gets knocked on his azz A LOT. Bush's 2nd half of the year was an A but definitely not the first half. But that pretty much goes for the entire team. I don't think Carey is at a B anymore. I just don't see any passion out of him on the field. To me he is just going through the motions. I gotta give Pouncey an A. He was a rookie flanked by major liabilities. What he did was amazing, he is def a stud. Was not a fan of Burrnett. What happened to him. I was so happy when we signed him but feel he was a major let down.

Good feed back, the talent on this team is the only reason why nobody got an F grade... a C- was due to lack of depth, I didn't grade any back ups so that show's we have no depth to speak of at offensive line.

For what its worth alot of the grades were based on impact player, overall play during the entire season (not just first 7 games), impact while injured (due to no depth) and also the gap in talent we have.

Trust me the grades are favorable only because the dolphins lack in talent and the players that contribute deserve "some" credit.

Here are my projected starters in the 4-3 base formation for 2012.

RDE - Cameron Wake (definate starter) / Phillip Merling (back up) / Free Agent
NT - Paul Soliai (if resigned) / Isaako Aaitui (back up) / Free Agent
DT - Randy Starks (definate starter) / Kendall Langford (if resigned) / Tony Mcdaniel (back up/if resigned) / Free Agent
LDE - Jared Odrick (moved to DT if no depth) / Phillip Merling (back up) / Free Agent

RDE would be solid with Cameron Wake 8.5 sacks in 2011 while Jared Odrick had 6 sacks in 2011 could prove serviceable opposite Cameron Wake. There really is no DE depth after those 2 players and free agency will prove how often the base 4-3 will be ran, Phillip Merling had 0 sacks in 2011. NT and DT depends on free agency and worry me the most due to contract issues. Randy Starks is set at DT and had 4.5 sacks in 2011, Tony McDaniel had 2.5 sacks in 2011 while Paul Soliai and Kendall Langford combine for 0 sacks.

The 3-4 defensive front is more responsible for run gap penetration while the OLB's are the pass rush specialist which sheds light on the defensive lines poor sack production in 2011. The switch to the 4-3 defense will showcase Cameron Wake's pass rush ability only if he has similar talent opposite him. Run stopping ability of our NT/DT's are evident but could struggle if Paul Soliai and Kendall Langford become cap casualties.

WOLB - Kevin Burnett (definate starter) / Johnathan Freeney (back up) / Free Agent
MLB - Karlos Dansby (definate starter) / Marvin Mitchell (back up) / Free Agent
SOLB - Free Agent / Ikaika Alama-Francis (back up) / Koa Misi (back up)

No depth is the reason why the 3-4 LB corp struggled to produce sacks outside of Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor. Unproven depth in the 4-3 front will need major upgrade and I expect to see alot of free agents brought in for position battles at strongside linebacker and needed depth.

LCB - Vontae Davis / Nolan Carol (back up) / Free Agent
SS - Yeremiah Bell / Reshad Jones (back up) / Free Agent
FS - Chris Clemons / Tyrone Culver (back up) / Free Agent
RCB - Sean Smith (starter at slot CB in nickle packages) / Will Allen (RCB in nickle packages) / Jimmy Wilson / Free Agent

Our secondary depth was horrible last year and with new defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle alot of changes could be made with free agency and possible Yeremiah Bell being a cap casuality. I would like packages to highlight Sean Smiths cover ability and not expose him so much to opposing teams 2nd tier WR's which he's shown to have difficulty with. With Coach Coyle in place he could bring more discipline and quality play out of a poor secondary that highlighted Yeremiah Bell as the secondaries leading tackler and hardest hitter that offenses were always afraid of.
