Getting excited about Travis Daniels

My only concern with Daniels starting is experience. CB is one of the hardest positions for a rookie to come in, start, and have success. However, Daniels situation is unique because he played for Saban in college, Kind of not making him a rookie.

Good point, but you have to realize that we are not using Jim Bates man to man scheme anymore. Our new defense is more adept to helping our corners and applying a lot of pressure with our front seven. The scheme is very similar to New England's defense and you see how successuful their undrafted rookie CB Randall Gay was last year, who played for Saban the year before.

My thoughts are, if Randall Gay can be successful in that scheme, I have no worry about Daniels panning out in the same scheme.

Yeah Daniels will start this year, he and Poole could be our next Surtain and Madision

Poole has to stay healthy long enough to get on the field before we'll even know if he's any good.

I agree, with a little experience and some help from the front seven I think he will do just fine. I expect him to be a good corner for us for years to come.

so do i

yea experience is definitely a concern to keep in mind, but rookie corners definitely can step it up. Good example from my alma mata UCF, is with Asante Samuel. Guy made some big plays and even pulled out a win for the ol' Patsies by taking a pick to the house in one game as a rookie. So all in all w/ mentoring from Madison and coaches, Daniels just may open up some eyes by shadowing receivers like a veteran and hopefully come up with some big plays. Only time will tell.

I have faithe in daniels, and i hope he will be very good. But you still must remeber that the other backs are learning a system that daniels has mastered and played 2 positions in. By the end of training camp, one of the others might seriously contend for the starting spot. But anyways all the luck to him!

Uh I felt like poole played pertty' well last year and he will get some p/t late this season as well he wont miss da' whole season.

If Daniels is out there making interceptions he's already exceeding my expectations. I expected him to be solid. Solid corners cover well. Exceptional ones cover well, and put fear in a QB by plucking the ball out of the sky regularly.

To quote Randy Travis...

"I toooold you sooooo..." :D

I was talking up Travis Daniels from the moment we drafted him. Knowing his talent, and more importantly, his knowledge of the scheme, I knew this was going to happen.

I just hope he doesnt get hurt. Roundtree right now is our #5 CB. Ugh. I dont EVER want to see him on the field.

He is better than Wyrick.

True, but can you imagine if we had gotten the other LSU corner. The one NIck wanted in the second? Nick knew both!! I like Roth but that would have been sweet. WE could have grabbed McPherson in the 4th then as well.

Damn Giants.

Some LSU people have always thought that Travis Daniels was better than Corey Webster.
NOt Nick if he was going to grab Webster before the G men beat him to it. NOt upset about the result but if nick thought Webster was a steal in rd 2 I bet he may be damn near the best CB in the draft. Beside we do well with CBs drafted in RD 2 :D
