McCarron at 50 for us would be a wasted pick. We have to go with a position of need, and QB is not that.
If one of the top 4 tackles are there(Matthews/Robinson/Lewan or Martin)....take him. If not, I'd prefer a trade down and maybe get a guard and Kyrandijou both in the 2nd round. If the tackles are gone, and no one wants to give a 2nd and a 3rd say or a 2nd and 1st next year....stay where you are and take the highest TE/LB or CB on the board. I wouldn't be opposed to a corner if Ebron/Mosley/Shazier/Barr are all off the board. I'm not convinced in our reclamation products and I'm worried Taylor is an injury away from sitting on the sidelines for half a season waiting for inflammation to go down.

Actually, I think we are in a great scenario to trade down this year. The QBs are commanding nearly as much Top 10 attention as usual. And with a loaded draft, I can see several QBs sliding to mid/late 1st round positions giving us plenty of trading partners.
This might be one of the better chances we've had in a while to trade down and still have most of our top guys still on the board.
With most of the QBs still lingering around the mid round, several of the teams in the Top 10 or 15 might be looking to trade back into the 1st to grab their QB with a later pick instead of paying him top dollar in the top of the draft. It also allows them to sit a QB drafted later without all the hype and pressure to start now.

trade down is always option 1A unless you are a serious SB contender. speculating on who will be there at 19 / who would trade up for said player is kind of nonsense at this point. there are always players that drop / runs on positions / etc.

If the top 5-6 players I want are gone, I go down, and get picks I can use to fill holes with potential gems.
So we are less than a week from the draft and "talk" says we are looking at trading down . . . . . so that means one of two things. Smokescreen in order to throw teams off right behind us so they won't trade up right in front of us and grab our pick. Or second, we are exploring what we might get if we do want to trade down and that's being reported as we are trading down. Point is, don't rely on anything you hear, especially in the last week or two, regarding what teams are going to do. It's nice to know you might have someone as a trade partner in advance, but teams that wait until the draft starts and then teams panic to move up end up getting way more in trades than any advance deal. You just have to be ok with a pick at your spot if nothing happens last minute, but you can reap some pretty good picks if you are patient.

lol, what's funny, is that every single team is "looking" to trade down. every single team will listen to offers. They would be dumb not to. If every GM was asked if they would trade down, every single one of them would say yes, it's a possibility, because it hurts nothing and only helps them, as more teams will likely contact them with different offers.
I just want Hickey to surprise me and deliver on at least half or more of our draft picks. From what I have read about Tampa Bay drafts and the past comments from CK and Hoops we could end up looking back as Ireland as an upgrade as they were not impressed with Hickey. Regretfully I am not hopeful about this next year and hope to be proven wrong.

I'll never look back and regret firing Ireland no matter what Hickey does. I'm pretty sure just the Grimes deal trumps anything Ireland had done in his six years here so we're already ahead of the curve. Every GM needs a lot of luck with respect to the draft and Hicky will be no different. The weird thing about Ireland is he was either the unluckiest SOB on the planet when it came to draft picks or he was so bad that he actually had a knack for making the wrong choice.

No matter what Hickey doe - trade up, trade down, draft solid OL early, draft OL late, draft "impact player, etc half of this board is going to lose their mind. I just hope whatever position we draft we get a player who can contribute and not be a liability. I hope if we move around in the draft we dont get hosed. We have a lot of "gems" on this team that should be more polished this season and consistancy from this years draft pics would be the biggest thing I could ask for.
It's all going to depend on what's there when it's their turn to draft. If someone like Zack Martin makes it to 19 I suspect that'll be the pick, as they supposedly really like him. But if their top choices are gone, why not trade down? Does anyone think a player they get at 19 is going to put them in the Super Bowl? This team has a major weakness it needs to concentrate on. If they can still get a Morgan Moses or Juwann James by sliding down then go for it.
RT is not an impact player - it might be a prudent move for 10 years but lets be serious we could also tyrade down and get a RT who could play 10 years
Had we not signed Fat Albert I would say a Tackle would be crucial in the first - now it is BPA or trade down
I have been with the phins a very long time and Shula's coaching covered up a lot of bad drafts, JJ couldn't draft a offense, Dave Wanstant traded away his draft picks for an offense, Saban did not know how to draft and was not up to coaching in the NFL, Muller and company could not draft or coach. Looking back at their records Shulas had a best winning record, JJ record was a little above average, Danny W above average, Saban below average, Muller bottom of the barrell and Ireland Tony S and Philbin another below average record. Bottom line the last time we had a playoff team around here was when Shula was in town. What that tells you is we still probably do not have a NFL playoff caliber coach and never have since Shula left and the only coach to produce outside of Shula was Dave W who traded away his picks. Soo how important is the draft pretty important but the coaching makes a huge difference. You want to beat up Ireland fine because under his tenue we had another medocre product but I believe Ireland never had the chance to make his imprint on the Dolphins in regards to getting his coach, becasue it was quite clear Bill Parcells hired Tony S. who we know is a terrible coach based on his last couple of years here and his time with the Jets and Ross picked Philbin not Ireland. In fact the guy Ireland wanted is coaching the San Diego now coaching a team that went to the playoffs last year while we sat at home. All of Irelands 1st round picks have been solid starters or better either still playing here or still playing somewhere else and while Ireland may have missed in the 2nd and 3rd rounds alot he made alot of hits in the later rounds or college free agents. Honestly I believe while you might label Irelands drafts crap its the best crap we had around here in the past 20 plus years. I am smelling another Mueller year coming up with Hicky and Philbin and we are going to blow everything up next year and start over. Hope I am wrong. The team laid an egg those last 2 games for Philbin last year just like they did Tony Sporano's last year before he got canned.

I'm under the impression that Shula was one of the best coaches of all time and he was paired with one of the best QBs of all time. If that's your pedestal then you're probably going to be disappointed for a long time. You don't need "greatest ever" at either position, what you need is "good enough" at both positions and for me its impossible to be sure what we have at QB or HC thanks to Ireland's ineptness. And remember PHILBIN was the one that wanted to upgrade the LT position so if simply going to the playoffs is the holy grail for you then at least get him a GM that actually helps rather than drags us down.
