RT is not an impact player - it might be a prudent move for 10 years but lets be serious we could also tyrade down and get a RT who could play 10 years

Had we not signed Fat Albert I would say a Tackle would be crucial in the first - now it is BPA or trade down

I hear ya. My real preference is BPA; however, this might be the year that we have to regroup and build a quality OL. The patchwork method we have tried in the past isn't working.

I'm under the impression that Shula was one of the best coaches of all time and he was paired with one of the best QBs of all time. If that's your pedestal then you're probably going to be disappointed for a long time. You don't need "greatest ever" at either position, what you need is "good enough" at both positions and for me its impossible to be sure what we have at QB or HC thanks to Ireland's ineptness. And remember PHILBIN was the one that wanted to upgrade the LT position so if simply going to the playoffs is the holy grail for you then at least get him a GM that actually helps rather than drags us down.

Shula was as great or greater coach before Marino enough said. The holy grail is the Super Bowl by the which is why Shula was run out of town by reporters and fans who wanted more than just playoff appearances. What they got was a bunch of bums for their wishful thinking. As far as blaming Philbins failure on Ireland is like the cook blaming the grocery store because he burned the meat. That excuse leaves the house if Philbin screws up this year. So far with a offensive line with more holes than a sieve, a defense that is worse shape this year at stopping the run after loosing Paul S. and replacing half of last years secondary that was playing fairly decent with aged injured players then this years drafts better be all aces for Philbin to have a decent chance.$

If one of the top 4 tackles are there(Matthews/Robinson/Lewan or Martin)....take him. If not, I'd prefer a trade down and maybe get a guard and Kyrandijou both in the 2nd round. If the tackles are gone, and no one wants to give a 2nd and a 3rd say or a 2nd and 1st next year....stay where you are and take the highest TE/LB or CB on the board. I wouldn't be opposed to a corner if Ebron/Mosley/Shazier/Barr are all off the board. I'm not convinced in our reclamation products and I'm worried Taylor is an injury away from sitting on the sidelines for half a season waiting for inflammation to go down.

Cyrus has only one knee. :idk: I prefer drafting someone who is healthy, like JuWan James or Mewhort.

The offensive line cannot be worse than last year. The new line coach is one of the major reasons for this.

And you needn't worry about a bad run defense losing their #1 run stuffer because if he had played anywhere close to decent the run defense would have been close to decent.

True. Our run D was ranked 28th or 29th with Soliai, hard to get much worse than that.

I agree with you the offensive line cannot be worse than last year, but IMHO it's because of personnel as much as the new o-line coach. We played last year with one good o-lineman and a bunch of JAGS. If we draft no significant o-linemen (I'm not necessarily proposing that), and sign the dregs that are left in FA to man the remaining holes on the o-line, on paper it's still better than last year with just Albert, Pouncey and the scrubs. We have the same guy manning C, have significantly upgraded LT. It's not like any of the departing linemen (RT or either G spot) are any better than what's left on the FA market right now or the players we have already signed at those positions. I would love for us to get a talented o-line player or two early in the draft because we still need to upgrade there, but we don't want to reach in any way just out of need.

You are also forgetting the additions of Moreno and Lazor which should both help significantly. Also, Tannehill has another year under his belt. Also, the o-line should have a full offseason to gel which should help. If all of these additions including Albert doesn't get us down to around average sacks then we have bigger problems than just the talent level of the guys manning the o-line.

I agree those additions and Tanny's maturing will help cut the sacks down as well, as it wasn't all o-line issues. Mostly I was just pointing out that the talent level will already be a notch or two better than last year in the front five (as long as Albert is on the field). Especially vs the 2nd half of last year when our 2nd best o-lineman (Cogs) wasn't with the team. Not that Incognito was all world. The bottom line is we have added one good player and a couple of relative unknowns (Smith and Fox), but we haven't really lost anything at the position (Cogs, Jerry, Clabo, McKinney).

Hope your opinion holds up on the offensive line. Of course a few NFL type players on the roster would help also.

Looks like the Atlanta Hawks and I disagree with your assessment about big Paul especially after the contract they offered him and of course seeing Dansby playing so well with the Cards last year after leaving the Phins you really have to consider that both the linebackers we had year were not very good at stoping the run or we also have a terrible linebacking coach. I.E. Also big Paul duty is to engage blockers and was there on only the first 2 downs in our schemes wich led to many big run plays on 3rd downs last year as we could never get off the field.

Doesn't Atlanta employ a 3-4 where a big NT like Soliai has more value, and is likely still on the field frequently on 3rd downs? When he's just a two down DT for us? I like Paul, but I don't think he was worth to us what the Falcons paid him.

Yes Paul fits their Atalants scheme better than ours and maybe they overpaid for him, a good point when big Paul was off the field the phins had a ton of those third and longs converted on us last year. Just a note.

Dallas Thomas is competing for RG job but he can also play RT.
