Swapping a gator for some mickey mouse kicker? Brilliant... or not?

Cap space is an issue though. I think it would be a waste of money to sign a dude like him for 3 mil a year. If he came at a discounted price sure, but, with his stats I doubt his agent would accept a deal for much less than that.
I know he got in trouble for binge-drinking. Wonder what else has happened?
Watch what we do to your BYU flaming Cougars six days from now =)

There surely are some tools that attend UCF, but some damn talented football players across the board.
Because he sucked ass last season and we don't get a lot of touchbacks on kickoffs?
If he kicks that one to Spiller through the endzone after we had cut their lead and had some momentum...instead Spiller takes it for a TD and the backbreaker.
I agree with your assesment on the hustle and the tackling we have a pretty bad unit. However if he boots that thru the endzone like Dan friggin Carpenter did all day thats a different ball game. You can't pin that on Sturgis. Watch the video, the whole right side of our kickoff squad was MIA. Credit the Bills special teams, they set that return up perfectly. The Bills had about 8 guys near the numbers, we had 6 counting Sturgis (who probably came the closest to tackling Spiller btw.)
As for Sturgis' kick-offs, he is averaging 66.5 yards per KO atm, good enough for 6th in the NFL. Last year he was 3rd in the NFL with a 66.4 yard average.
By contrast, last year Prater was 12th in the NFL with a 64.8 yard per KO average. Where they differ is that Prater was 2nd in the NFL in touchback percentage at 71.1% and Sturgis was 10th at 51.4% TB%. This year Sturgis is 26th in TB% with 33.3% of his kickoffs being touchbacks.
Special teams has been our Achilles heel this year. Blocking, tackling, and hustle have been piss poor.
I would like to see Sturgis more reliable kicking FGs. He was one of the few bright spots for us early on last year, before he hit a nasty slump. Let's hope he gets it together this year, so far he has only missed 1 FG from 48 yards out.
Stick with Sturgis, the cap money we save would be better spent on retaining vets.
