Not everyone is as super hard ass as you. For some, seeing a buch of bullet riddled children ****s them up. Not defending martin by any means. Wish the whole situation would go away.

It's not a question of being super hard. It's being able to function at a basic level at
a job that requires constant response to dynamic, stressful situations, and the abilty
to quickly troubleshoot and apply remedies to multiple, complex problems. If you
are that vunerable mentally, you shouldn't be in that profession.

Again...If you spend a year or two rolling down an MSR for 16 hours a day, constantly
having people shoot at you and blow stuff up around you, that's one thing. A single event?
There's a certain cost assumed in becoming a sheepdog.

I can understand if a teacher, or a parent, or janitor, or lunchroom lady struggles with
PTSD, but a first responder? Come on.

Anyway, this doesn't have anything to do with Martin, and he doesn't have ****ing PTSD.

Guys - with all due respect to the military, I don't think the armed forces have a patent on the term "PTSD". There are many forms of PTSD and many triggers for it - not just stepping on an IED.

And let's keep in mind that neither Martin nor his parents have spoken publicly about this and no one from the Martin camp has brought any legal action forward either. Until the latter happens, and the gloves are off, I suggest we just cool it with the "Martin is a pu%%y", "he's disrespecting the military", "he's a money-grubbing mama's boy" stuff. For all we know, he really could just have a psychological disorder and is getting it treated. Really - it's possible.

The fact that they have not said a word, is all you need to hear. A few people got their heads in the sand.
Mark my words, this is bigger than Spygate or Bountygate. And this will be his mother's biggest claim to fame!
The NFL will change. This is an employment issue of national proportions, far bigger than if teams are supposed to film another teams walk through or not.
He is not "just getting treated", his team is getting ready. It supports their case "to get treated", in supports their case "to want to still play" and it is really smart to say nothing.

Ross's speech on Monday, although horribly spoken, covered a lot of the things he "needed to say to protect himself. "The changes" he talked about have little to do with firing someone (not to say he won't) but that is not why he spoke those lines on Monday. It was about letting fans and the law guys know, he does not want this stuff in his business. The only approach he can take. This is a big deal unfortunately.

I did 14 months on an IA (individual Augmentee) Deployment to Mortaritaville (Ballad, Iraq) where we are constantly barraged with mortars every day and every night, some mortars made their way and killed and injured soldiers and other troops.

I knew a few people some sailor friends of mine who claimed PTSD and the initial thought is dam why you acting like a lil beeyatch ? It's war, it's what we do we deploy and we get to fight for our country , stop being a puss.

Now I can be insensitive, but it's the truth! We were stationed on base 100% of the time. Now the true heroes who went off base and were hit by stingers, IEDs or convoy gun fights if they claim PTSD by all means they deserve it! I'm a sailor who is not used or trained to deal with mortars minus 2 week training course and was barraged for 14 months of mortars every day and I don't claim it and think if you did and were on base not only are you a puss you also are not mentally, physically, emotionally tough!

No way no how that a well paid Stanford grad 2nd round NFL pickk who plays offensive line in a childish locker room full of pranksters and you Jon Martin lead some of the pranks have PTSD! And like PhinSoldia said if football and the Dolphins antics gave you PTSD, how is it that you are talking about returning to the sport next year to what gives you PTSD????

Every time I hear a helicopter I think of both IA deployments in the war zone and being mortared but hell the **** no will I live for sympathy! He'll no. That is just mentally, physically and emotionally weak!

It's not about mental disorder it's about law. I'm like you from what you have said, but the law is for people that are not. The law is so people don't have to rely on your sympathy or mine. The law is so the mentally, physically and emotionally weak get a chance.

I've led and managed bigger businesses and since I am not that way and more like you, it seems like these people are always taking business for a ride. I'm more of the type that thinks, "if you don't like it, leave". "If you can't handle the stress of selling" leave. "If you don't like the people here" leave. But that is not the way the world is going. I absolutely think Martin should have done better at voicing his opinion and so forth, because I think he has obligations that way. But Incognito has likely gone so overboard that he will get off the hook for his obligations under the defence that "it was so bad that...blah blah. Unfortunately Incognito or someone else has done things that will not sit well in public court.

i know some of you here think that Martin is getting judged prematurely and that we should wait for all the facts. But, what we know,right now for sure, is that Martin ade the choice to walk outon his (our) team and crezte the ****storm of BS. Regardless of the specifics of his "condition", the reality Martin has created through hjs actions is one where the Dolphins are the "bad guys" and are hated by people all over the country. Martin's choice to handle hjs "issue" the way he did has also tanked an already difficult season and put this still new coaching staff jobs at risk.


For all this and more, Martin is a self centered piece of ****. He did not care one bit about the ramifications of his actions to the team and more importantly, to the fans. SO FU_K HIM.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the military. He has a mental health condition. Post traumatic stress disorder is not exclusively a condition contracted only by military personnel.
I have the greatest respect for all veterans and appreciate their contribution to enable the freedom that we enjoy.

You assume too much. I will expand my previous statement, although PTSD is most commonly associated with those coming back from combat situations.

This is also disrespectful to rape victims, victims of child abuse, witnesses to horrific crimes and tragedies....the list goes on but Martin's situation is still not on that list.

I have serious respect for troops and understand that what they endure to protect our freedom, of which certain political parties want to tear down, can lead to honest to God PTSD. That is no joke and needs to be handled by professionals.

Workplace PTSD is a thing as well, sadly. I did my masters thesis on stress and its often forgotten that internal stressors like performance pressure can physiologically mimic stressors such as what the vets on this site have described. It's all cortisol and whether it's from being shot at, persistent goals at work, or eating too much sugar (yep) your body's reaction will be to spike cortisol. There was a time when up to 10,000 Japanese men went missing each year because of that. They just up and walked off.

Do I think Martina has PTSD. Nope. Usually those afflicted with workplace PTSD are not the ones engaging in the harassment or hostil workplace acts. It's known Martina engaged willingly in normal NFL hazing acts. That is not the behavior of somebody in early to mid stages PTSD. Plain and simple he lost his LT job, couldn't handle the stress, quit, and now his parents are using their background to tear down the Fins and the league for their own gain. Just sickening to attach PTSD to it.
