GOOD LORD !!!! PTSD ?! Seriously.......WTF !?

I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out about this, Martin checked himself into a hospital and is being treated by licensed medical personal AND THEY diagnosed him with a a form of PTSD.....Now if his parents shopped around to find a doctor to say this then you have a point....if not relax.....we know he has mental issues so what is the big shock? That his disease is commonly found in military personal? Get over it, Martin is a mentally sick young man and is in need of help that it appears he is getting, he will also be getting a nice payday courtesy of the Dolphins and or the NFL and once we hear what he has to say a player maybe writing a check to...

Looking at this definition, Tanny should be suing Martin for PTSD. I am sure he has nightmares and is reliving every moment that a DE or LB came through and crushed him on his blindside when Martin was back there.

LOL That's funny....but don't stop throw in Clabo and Jerry

PTSD

Really?!?

While it is possible, I highly doubt it. I've worked with people who have PTSD and they weren't vets. It is really tough for them to hold something down.

It just gets better and better. I have never collected money without working and I have no sympathy for him or his money hungry parents/lawyers. Another wasted 2nd round pick.

Ozzy rules!!

As soon as this ridiculousness broke, from Joni staging a theatrical hissy fit storming out over the same prank he played on Gardner the week before, immediately speaking to a reporter, admitting himself to some loon bin for a transparently short stay before flying home to mommy and daddy ambulance chasers - I called that this was orchestrated and staged for maximum publicity. On the heels of the Pandora's Box opened by the head injury law precedent, this is about redefining what for generations was considered normal rites of passage hazing, and if successful, having washed out, venal marginal players going back decades, oozing out of the woodwork to dip their hands into the NFL's deep pockets in a class action suit - or the NFL lawyers knowing this, agreeing to settle out of court with no admission of culpability for tens if not hundreds of million$ to quash this BS. Apologies to good attorneys like a few i know from on here and in my family, but really there's a reason that lawyers as a professional often ends up in the strata with used car salesmen as least respected and trustworthy.

You assume too much. I will expand my previous statement, although PTSD is most commonly associated with those coming back from combat situations.

This is also disrespectful to rape victims, victims of child abuse, witnesses to horrific crimes and tragedies....the list goes on but Martin's situation is still not on that list.
C'mon, man - who's doing the assuming here? Until we know the facts, how can we possibly know whether Martin belongs on the list or not? The only person(s) actually qualified to make that assessment are the professional psychiatrists/therapists who are working his file, not the Martin lynch mobs (or sympathisers) on this Board...

PTSD from playing football???? Hahaha bull$#%&!!! .

Sorry, I gotta call you on this. Couldn't be further from the truth with that statement, however it is more specifically known at CTE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy

but as the more common and more importantly, 'recognisable' term being PSTD then this is what gets splashed everywhere. HOWEVER, this is usually from the brain trauma from playing, not necessarily the bullying, but that's not my area so I can't for sure.

One thing I can confidently stand behind is the impacts of PTSD/CTE has on people… it's not pretty, and the increasing numbers of cases in 'FORMER' NFL players, college players and yes… high school players, is getting more and more recognition/awareness.

It's only a matter of time until PSTD/CTE starts being discussed within the 'CURRENT' player arena. It's still very early stages in the knowledge of this so who's to say where it goes.

This is the can of worms the NFL doesn't want opened - but I doubt they will have any choice.

Please let me take a moment to give you some facts you asked for. If any lawyers out there can get in more detail I would appreciate it.

-Jonathan Martins parents are both Lawyers
-His mother specializes in situations much like this. (according to the reports I have read at least)
-Both of his parents need to have experts from time to time to help strengthen their case in the courtroom.
-Part of any lawyers job is finding experts to strengthen their case.
-In any court case both sides have experts. Those experts contradict each others based on which side the are representing.

Having said this what makes you think this "expert" is going to give an objective assessment. Do you think they sent him any regular therapist or maybe they found one with a history of diagnosing people with PTSD. My point is they want the diagnosis to be as bad as possible and in the eyes of the media PTSD is associated with the military. Now the average Joe sitting on his couch associates what Martin went through with what service men and women go through. Yes I understand PTSD does not only refer to the military, but to the American public that is the terms most common association.

You can see that "common knowledge" demonstrated in this thread.

I'll add I have very little respect for mental health "professionals". Medical science in general isn't that far from putting leaches on people
to cure disease.

And my point stands - your whole position (that Martin is a money-grub who does not have PTSD) is based on conjecture regarding some "facts" that have nothing to do with what Martin went through or what his actual psychological state is - i.e. your whole logic is that there's no way Martin has PTSD because his parents are lawyers and lawyers can't be trusted.

I mean, I never thought I'd see the day where I actually defended lawyers, or someone who "quit" on his team, but for crying out loud, can we at least have a trial before the lynching? :rolleyes2:
