You had me right up until you brought in fin-fantic.

Oliver...

Oliver, I realize you disagree with Fin-atic... as have I MANY times... but my point was this:

He is not one to run off to another team, simply because of one player... he may gripe, complain, be pessimistic, or whatever you want to call it... but my money is on him remaining a Dolphin fan. Is he the only one? No... certainly not... but he was the best example I could think of, simply because of the obvoius passion he has for the Dolphins...

What Ricky did was selfish, immature, and just plan, wrong. As a child, I was taught if you are part of team, you do not let your team down, if you are suppose to showup for a game, a practise or whatever, you do it, because you were part of something and it wasn't right to let them down. I am sure what ricky is doing is what is best for him, and seems thats the way most people see the world these days, its all about me and what you can do for me, and throw them away when they don't benefit you anymore. Ricky used the dolphins and threw them away when he was done, with them. Eddie George left the Titans this week, and if Ricky would have given us the common courtesy of retiring, at the end of the year, before the draft or atleast last week, we could have replaced him, he has left us in bad spot, and if you are fan of his, you shouldn't be, he is setting a horible example, and I always thought he was one of the better guys in football. Those of you who have kids, please teach them the value of being part of team it should mean something, and things like this won't happen in the future.
Well said, Philyphin. I read the news in the Miami Herald, and the columnist speculated that "champagne glasses were being raised across the AFC East". Not true, and like Harrison37 and other Pats fans, I feel compelled to speak out. RWs actions may be the right thing, but clearly at the wrong time, and very selfish and classless. His actions hurt the game, which is more important than any single team. I want ALL the teams in the AFC East to be high caliber quality teams, and each game to be a hardfought dogfight, so that whomever ultimately prevails is better prepared for the challenges of the post season. There is no fun in watching games in which the opponents are mismatched, whether it's through injury, or poor management. RW has done his teamates and fans a tremendous disservice by choosing this point in time to hang it up. I don't want success because of someone else's misfortune - what a meaningless empty victory that would be.

I hope that TM & the rest of the phins lockerroom does a gut check and step up to make something good happen out of this totally unnecessary adversity.

I hope the fins fans continue to support their team and the team is able to deliver a quality product that they deserve - now that would be something to toast.

See you in week 4, best of luck, and thank you for allowing me to post on your board.

A Jets fan with class. Excellent!

I know what you meant, but if he is an example of a true Dolphins fan, I guess we just don't see eye to eye.

Not a problem. I think you have a very good attitude about the whole thing, and I agree with any luck the so called bandwagon fans will drop off. That's always a GREAT thing. I liked your post very much until I stopped reading after you mentioned fin-fanatic.

Go Dolphins.

Oliver...

The choice is simple: cry in your beer and boo-hoo about how Ricky screwed us, or get behind the team and have fun. Sure, our O took a big hit, but we're not gonna lay down for anybody, this 4-12 BS I'm reading isn't going to happen. I've already forgotten Ricky, and am looking forward to the season! :)

This is, not what I wanted to wake up to this morning, thats for sure...especially after EG ended up a cowboy! The more I think of it, is until we had RW, we had been in the playoffs for 6 consecutive years. What I am not saying is that he was bad for the team at all, but maybe over the last couple years if we had not had him, the coaching staff may have been making more realistic playcalls and not using him so profusely. Every defence we faced knew what was going to happen, either give it to Ricky, or throw it to Chris. Now we have DB and no RW, maybe it will open things up for Travis to be able to run the ball against teams that are not stacking up to stop the run, nor are they expecting it...so both sides of the field will be used...non?

By the way Harrison, those were the first normal words, I have ever heard come out of a pats fan..(being from northern Alberta, the only pats fans here are bandwagon jumpers, so we dont see alot of real fans). I for one, appreciate the sentiment...good on ya!

We all know by now that Ricky is tuning his back on football, and the Dolphins.
We all feel the resentment, the dispair, the betrayal. We all wonder why and how someone like Ricky Williams can toss away all that God given talent, and how he can waste what would have been an illustrious career. I know I'm not alone in feeling the anger at what he's done... to wait until the worst possible moment to make this irresponsible move. It's not his decision to retire that angers me... it's the timing. The Dolphins have been very good to him, and for him these last couple of years, he couldn't have done a better job at showing his lack of appreciation, or loyalty. I can only stand here and shake my head. Is the season completely lost? Well... perhaps, perhaps not... we all have to wait and see. Is griping about Ricky the purpose of this seemingly redundant thread? No.

This all comes down to why I, and those like me, are fans. It hurts the TEAM. I, like so many of you, am a fan of the Miami Dolphins. First and foremost. Have I been a fan of Ricky? Heck yeah! who among us hasn't? However, it's been because he was a Dolphin that I was a fan of his. I've heard this statement many times, by many members of this site:

"I'm a fan of the team, not just a player"

THAT statement is why I created this thread... something I don't often do.
The fact that Ricky is gone, has but ONE single positive outcome that I can see in the near future. That is that the bandwagoners, the fans-come-latley, the people who "became" Dolphin fans because of Ricky... will finally pack up their carpet bags, and head off to a different team.
This will thin the crowd... the true fans remaining... those that were not true fans will dissapear into the woodwork as fast as they came.
For all his alledged negativity, and controversial posts on this site, there is one member here who IMO stands out like a beacon... a posterboy for fans, if you will... A shining example of someone who will always remain true to the TEAM, no matter who is running the football... is Fin-atic. Fans like him, while not always popular in their views (Lord knows, I haven't always agreed with him), will be the LAST people to stop being a fan, because one bone-headed superstar called it quits. ( hate singling anyone out... but this guy really is a die-hard fan...sorry Fin-atic)
Others... and I'm sure we'll all see who they are... will simply find another team to root for. To them, I say Good Riddance. It will be nice to not have those "fans" around anymore...
As for me... I've been a Dolphin fan since long before Ricky Williams was born... and will continue to be a Dolphin fan until the day I die... no matter how good, nor how bad the upcoming season looks, I'll always have hope, I'll always cheer them on, and I'll always wear my Aqua and Orange with pride.
Those of you who are of the same mind... stick around, we have a LOT to talk about, wonder about, and hope for...
Is the title of this thread directed at Ricky?... no...it's for those that aren't with us... the bandwagon stops here... time for you to get off... and stay off!

Yeah the timing is what pisses me off the worse. It was like he was really trying to put it to the Fins. As far as I am concerned Ricky is public enemy #1 for the way he hurt my team...

You don't have to be a pessimistic rant-aholic to be a "real" fan. My teal and orange glasses are still foggy.

Great Post Wharfrat, I've been a fan since the early 80's and whether the Dolphins suck or are at their best, I will always cheer for them. WIN, LOSE , OR TIE, I'M A DOLPHIN FAN TILL I DIE.

Actually, I agree about fin-atic. I don't necessarily agree with him, but he is pro dolphin. He will just have to change his avatar.

I never said you had to be pessimistic... in fact, My 35 year old Aqua & Orange glasses work just as well now, as they did back in 1969.... I'm definately on the "optimistic side" of the fence...

My point was that despite his precieved negativity... he'll remain a fan...

I'm still in shock, I haven't been able to come up with thing worth while to post, but I think the answer is on our team, Named: Lenard Henry..if he gets the chance..I think we will be pleasantly surprised.

Yah know, after listening to press conference from this morning, I'm feeling a little better. They are going to make T. Minor the starter. To my surprise, he was still on the team. For some reason I thought he'd been traded. (Sorry about the bad info in a past post). Travis has come through on some big plays. Hopefully he can come through on more of them now. It's cool to see all the "true" fans sticking things out. I know up here in Eagles country, atleast a hundred people would have slit their wrists by now. Let Ricky take himself and his inner child for a walk through Asia. And maybe he could the bandwagoneers with him. Wharf, you are the man for starting this thread. It's actually helped me look a lot more forward to this season. Here's to a true fan. :)
