Gotta love the "draft experts" on this forum

no i'm complaining about losing out on adding another high pick piece...i just don't think they handled the board right unless they felt zona at 20 would take james...chance i would have taken

But if they targeted him as their pick all along then you don't take that chance.

yeah that's pretty much the extent of it...we can argue about his value although top 20 for my money was way rich but we walked away from an easy add pick 91 to the cupboard opportunity in the process...

just not a good day for us...take the player out of it the handling of the board was just poor...

Yet you admitted that you had no idea what Arizona would have done at 20......

If you like the player, you take him. Period.

basically we're all complaining about a guy almost everyone said is a second or third round talent. you know like on rottentomatoes when 100 out of 200 critics say a movie is bad its usually anywhere from mediocre to bad? i guarentee you people on here would have defended the eddie moore pick or the jamar fletcher pick.

it's possible they could have took him but they got solid play from young tackles last year...is zona even a zone scheme oline???

and look you know i am all about keeping my qb clean and this kid definitely looks plug and play in pass pro but you still need to work the board when the opportunity presents itself...i guess the need trumped the chance here...i just would have played the odds he makes it to 27

How is it the Pats reach and yet the media lines up to kiss Bill B's arse?

Philly, putzburgh, and AZ reached too. Then, I thought Minny & St L were the day 1 winners not Cleveland.

p.s. Did anyone notice what the "experts" gave the Titans?

If he is the last 1st round tackle on my board and there's any chance Arizona picks him, I'm not taking the risk. Plus, any team in the league can move up to one of those 8 spots and grab him ahead of me.
Was he a reach? Maybe. Was there a trade offered? Probably.
But right tackle was the biggest hole on the roster and Hickey filled it with a guy he graded as a 1st rounder.

Hickey thinks he's a first rounder, doesn't matter what the armchair experts think.
And I guarantee people here would complain about the Zack Thomas and Jason Taylor picks

I think people overreact to "value" when it comes to a player. There are many players that are drafted because of their perceived value and are busts. Mandrich, Leaf, Shuler, pretty much any Penn State Running Back who were drafted where they were and were considered busts because of how they played and where they were drafted. Then you have great players that were taken early that didn't have the "value" that people perceived and they played well. Fit in the system, who is available and what you need are more important that "value". "Value" looks great today. If he busts, did that "value" really matter. Maybe we could have gotten him sooner, maybe we could have gotten him later. Who knows. If he is the guy we wanted and the team didn't think they could get him later because someone else wanted him, then you have to take him because it is what you need.

Let's say we took Dix, Cooks or Dennard and then James, XSF, Cyrus and Moses were gone by our next pick, everyone would be crying about not getting the RT or G that we all wanted. While it is nice to move back, you never know what is going to happen. Who thought Dallas was going to take Martin, especially with how bad that D was last year. Unless you are trading up, you have no control of who you are going to get and sometimes it is better to be safe and secure.

At the end of the day, James could be an all-pro for 10 years or he can be a complete bust. At that point in time, we will see what his value is. Remember, a lot of people wanted us to take Brady Quinn instead of Ted Ginn because of Value and perceived ability. While Ginn was not a great choice and I didn't understand it, how would the "value" of Quinn been in the long run?

Wrong, need matched up with value. In other words there happened to be a player available worth their pick that happened to match up with a need.
So in your opinion, it was just "dumb luck" that 32 picks matched the 31 team's needs and also happened to "match up" with value. Not that any team was looking for need, but it just happen to happen. People that believe that NFL teams are always or should always pick BPA are semi clueless IMO. In later rounds or when your team is so stack you have no needs then maybe. Maybe 90% of draft picks are based on need. Do we need another QB or WR? Or someone to keep Tannehill upright.

Excellent examples. I hated the Ginn pick; the only positive was that it wasn't Quinn.

i'm not sure why people were surprised about dallas and zach martin...thats plug and play left guard for them to pair with their young center and 2 solid tackles and tackle depth in a pinch...

James is a good player and he'll start day 1 but it was a tremendous reach in an event that's all about value. Could have traded back and got the same player along with more picks. That's how you get ahead. That's how the New England Patriots have won Super Bowls and dominated the draft. They understand value and the Dolphins don't. And that's why year after year we're spinning our tires in the mud.

Show me a NE Patriots trade where they lost 60 points in value according to the value trade chart.
