Grading & Rating Tannehill Game by Game

I'm very very interested in seeing how Tannehill plays out this year with a better line and a not-brain dead offensive coordinator with go and go-go, and 6 or 8 runs per game, and moving Wallace around the field.

If at the end of this coming season we're 6-10 or 8-8 and Tanny's had a midling season where he flops badly in more than two games(all QB's have 1 bad game per season, even the great ones) than I'll start thinking we need to at least begin looking at the possibility of drafting a QB in the 2nd round for competition.

Exactly...Tannehill IMO has been held back by all the factors you mentioned. Hopefully the OL mess gets straightened out and we at least get an average OL where Tannehill gets protection and a semblance of a consistent run game where we can see what he can really do. Then if he can't perform it's time to start the search. I'm in his corner though till then. The kid looks like he's ready to break out IF the OL can help him out.

Seriously, just go away. It's getting obsessive. If you are trying to make the transition to south Florida now's the time.....go get yourself a Marino jersey and change your avatar. Why else would you park here day in and day out....

I haven't been responding directly to the guy...not interested

OH STOP THE PRESSES!!!! Miami didn't allow a sack in week 17!!!!! They must have been a stud offense all season!!! They sucked really bad the first half, but then got a little better the second half, all while allowing 7 sacks in one game in week 16?! oh, it's just one game, lets just throw that one out and not count it! They were playoff caliber for the second half of the season, minus one game! Tannehill was the ONLY thing wrong with the dolphins last year! that's why he's still the starting QB and there are 5 new starting lineman! You can't make any more sense of it than that! Let me throw in a comment about bullygate too.

There, I posted everything the troll would have said 20 times. so please move on.

You forgot to praise buttfumble for his mediocre to terrible play each and every season but otherwise, yeah you nailed it.

Me too but I'm not yet convinced that this is the year. It seems like nothing can be as bad as last year in regards to the O-line but there's so many question marks on this years line.

Someone mentioned how it was the Ol getting dominated, I simply corrected them,. Your Ol was good the 2nd half minus the Buf game so the OL excuse doesn't fly w/ me.

I see you are flying off the handle b/c you don't have anything to come back at me w/ so you will post things I never said. Good job.

Thank you for being a fan and you are welcome for inspiring you to finally contribute to a discussion. One piece of advice- don't worry about me, just engage in discussions. if you disagree show me where and we'll have fun debating. if you want to be a blind homer then stay away from discussions I am involved rather than whine about me.

I have never used the ignore feature, and I've been a part of forums since 2003. and have seen some obnoxious posters. I think now is a great time to start. I keep forgetting about that feature. lol

You can be a knowledgeable fan seeing all points of view or you can be a homer like finfaninbuffalo.

You don't like your BS being called out so you run and hide. I think you are better than that but you are dug so far in w/ the Tannehill nonsense you'd rather just ignore reality.

One follow up on the Pitt game to get away from Jets stuff. PFF gave Clay a VG +3.6 grade for that game. It was the only above average grad on our O, other that RT's running. He caused 6 missed tackles (breaking a tackle or making a move to cause a miss. I think this would mean that he got more credit than RT on his catches and results but, I no longer have the games from last year.

If anyone does, I would be interested to see what you think after watching his 7 catches.

One other thing was that in the game RT threw the ball away 5 times. For the NFL, those are just incomplete passes, and I don't know if does any different. However, for me, it showed progress in his decision making in not risking a bad pass, while avoiding a loss. I would grade those a little higher that a standard incomplete throw.

Almost forgot. Big Ben got a +3.3 from PFF, and a 115 from NFL in that game.

Well, the story isn't complete on Tannehill yet, hoops may well turn out to be correct. Your champion Stickchez on the other hand.... you couldn't have been more wrong about him so maybe you should cool it with the reality talk. Having said that I do think your criticisms of our offense are more fair than most, Tannehill should not be absolved but I also believe had we traded for Albert a year ago we win at least one more game, maybe even two or three more games, bully-gate never happens, meaning Martin and Incognito would both still have been options for us, meaning we wouldn't have had to completely overhaul the line, and we would be a hell of a lot better off right now (except Ireland would still be here).

I have acknowledged that, he could turn out to be good. I have absolutely no issues w/ anyone thinking he could be a good QB. The issue w/ hoops is he called him a young, more athletic Tom Brady which is ludicrous and he knows better than that.

w/ others it's acting like Ryan was really good last year b/c he did put up some good #s but he wasn't and he had the chance to get Miami to the playoffs.

obviously the failures were not all on one player, if the OL was better, if the RBs were better, if the QB was better, etc... they could have won one more game but I see too many people saying how well Ryan did and absolving him of blame which isn't fair just b/c they like him. he failed, doesn't mean he won't improve and become a good QB.

I said tannehill reminded me very much of a young Tom Brady with the way he sees the field reads coverages and does not make poor decisions...and I like I always do stand by that...tannehill has better legs and is a far superior athlete to Brady but like Brady he wants to play a primarily pocket game...

Whether or not he actually ever achieves Brady's success I don't know...it's hard to win 3 championships etc but I do know that he's one of the best young qbs in football and is far advanced over many other young qbs when it comes to setting up his protections accounting for blitzes and identifying coverages and one of the best presnap reads qbs already...

As for the Pitt int for 6 I have seen every damn qb in football the great ones even make that same int...polomalu showed gap blitz pressure presnap tannehill set the protection to account for him when he came and assumed he would come postsnap but polo dropped out into a soft middle zone late and tannehill made one major mistake on the play most young qbs will make he lost eye discipline and stared at the hartline slant route a route where hartline lost miserably early and took a while to uncover and when he did polo flowed across reading the qbs eyes into the throwing lane...

Better eye discipline to hold polo in the middle of the field and a earlier win on the slant route and polo never gets there hell had hartline won from the beginning gaining the inside that ball comes out quicker and polo still can't flow over to it but the timing was thrown off and the qb stared it down thus pick 6...what people don't get is tannehills presnap read provided polo blitzes was bang on the middle of the field would have been wide open for chunk yardage provided hartline could catch and provide rac...as it was a 2nd year nfl starter 4th year college and pro combined starter got baited on a play that I have seen 10 plus year vets throw picks even...

Difference is qbs like buttfumble before him and geno now would have never even set the protection to account for polo presnap in the gap and I know it...buttfumble was the worst recognize and account for blitz pressure presnap qb...genos nowhere near intelligent enough or football iq enough to see it let alone account for it...

I think Miami was totally figured out by defences the last two games. And figuring out how to own our oline was a big part.

Yes they did figure us out. I really think it is more than just our linet. It is really on Ryan to hit those deep passes. Until he does we are going to constantly have 9 men close to the LOS which can make any line look bad. Not that ours needed any help.
You are basically out numbered because they don't fear you long passing game. That is our biggest problem on offense. Hit those passes to Wallace and everything else will open up.
