Great article on why Sparano should make the QB situation clear.

McCown's time with this franchise is almost over.

there is no reason to give a job to anyone right now... its basically obvious what is happening though. Pennington will start, we got a very smart, mature, and accurate QB to help lead our offense for now (no arm though)... then we have the man drafted by the Parcells committee, Henne whom is having a decent camp and is their developmental project, so obviously he shall stick around. then we got Beck who hasn't shown much improvement and not having a good camp, the same to say on a veteran back-up who been tossed around. who to keep??? why not maybe a cheaper Beck who could still develop hopefully (is it more or less confidence??? he is hesitant in many ways)... but to come right out and state a starting QB is unneeded, especially when you got Henne working his booty off, and Beck trying to make the team too..... keep it all working!!!

Keep in mind that BECK is learning a new offense, same as HENNE so really he's a rookie. You don't dump rookies until you have a good idea what they're gonna develop into and that takes time. Don't forget how pathetic ELI MANNING looked initially and even midway through last year. Rookie QB's are a mystery and they take a while to unravel.

McCown, on the other hand, is expendable because he was signed on to steer the ship while the rooks developed. Clearly, he hasn't WON the starting job and is in fact trailing HENNE in the coaches minds. And HENNE ain't ready so...

You have Sub NFL Level play from your QB's and WR's.... what do you do?

You stick to the plan. Your idea was to brin McCown to be the veteran QB while the rooks learned? Replace McCown with PENNINGTON.

Davone Bess catches everything in practice but can't seperate from db's in a game? Practice Squad. Bring in a veteran WR. Make a trade for BOLDIN or perform voodoo on TERRY GLENN's knee. Either way, you try to upgrade your team and also TEACH the rooks HOW to win.

McCown's time with this franchise is almost over.

And thank God!

First off I think there has been a culture of losing so long in miami that that all of the beat writers are to afraid of being embarassed to actually write a positive article 's about anything the Dolphins do.

What I see is them really begining to groom Henne. He got to play half of the game. The half he is given is the in the middle. So he is not paired up against tampa 1st stringers, and some of his guys have gotten past first quarter jitters and settled into their roles. To his credit he puts us into field goal range twice. then he gets pulled out and baton is passed to McCown. So he was given the most play time. Did not have open the game. He was not put under the pressure of trying to come back from behind to win. I think the staff played him just hard enough to help him develope and not ruin his future.

Beck did not do a horrible job either as much as that disappoints some of you. He certainly did give anyone anything to brag about, but he played well enough to buy himself some more time. He made some good and some bad plays out there, but he made plays. He did not look like a deer caught in headlights.

New beginnings aside, Beck and Roth were 2nd round picks and have at least some 'value' for this team. The Trio probably recognises this and will at least try to get some compensation for them. I don't know why some posers (freudian slip there that I decided not to fix) won't acknowledge that neither Mckown or Pennington are the long term answers for this team, and while Henne looks like the real deal you still need TWO QB's nowdays in the NFL. I don't really understand the level of vile towards Beck, as it seems so childish to me.

I have to strongly dissagree with Perezferia. I mean thats just rediculous with nothing based on fact. I my friend have actually seen a monkey slinging poo and I'm here to tell you its a lot of side-arm throwing with no real consistancy. Beck has deffinately been slinging better poo lately. But hey poo is poo.

It was a large bit of rambling.

This says alot. I think its dead on. Sparano needs to just dump Beck and come out and say that Henne is our man. He needs to make it clear to everyone that Pennington is going to start and as soon as Henne is ready he will take over. This team needs clear cut direction and leadership. We need to clear the air and remove the slop so we can march forward.

Beck played better the McCown under tougher conditions last night, he has leass experience and he's younger then McCown, McCown has had no success anywhere he's been in his three years, yet you see no problem with McCown and all the issues with Beck. Your conclusion, Beck needs to go and McCown, Pennington and Henne need to be our QB's? Gosh yet another "Beck is the problem and no one else" thread from you...SHOCKING!!!

Cote is an idiot and he proves it over and over. He wrote the same thing last year about Beck.

everyone needs to calm down about the QB's. its still very early and a lot can happen in just a couple weeks. when talking about unproven commodities, like henne and beck, you just cant be hasty. the team management is handling this correctly, they are taking their time and watching closely. they are not keeping 4 QB's to start the year, we have too many shortcomings elsewhere to fill.

if beck shows enough during preseason, he will be penningtons backup for the year. he clearly has more upside than mccown. mccown is what he is, a guy that will bounce around from team to team, but never able to hold down a starting job. however, if beck doesn't emerge and show some kind of improvement, they will trade him or cut him and keep mccown as the backup, if just because of the experience factor.

A few thoughts;

1) It seems obvious to me that McCown is the odd man out.

2) Its been 24 years since Miami has had a good young QB. Now there may be 2 and some are still whining like its 2004.

3) There is no pressure on Henne as I see it.

Doubtful. It's kind of sad how someone has to spam a board over and over with the same posts. Maybe it's a post count obsession or just some strange compulsion to respond to every post he can. He will respond to this post also, mark it down.

I think Beck is a good backup and Mccown is the odd man out. I am surprised that McCown would be this bad, but Henne and Pennington are a real nice QB tandem for us. Best I can remember in a long time to be honest.

What have you seen in Beck that suggests he's even a good backup?

I like his arm and the reads he makes when he has time. I would rather have this QB lineup though:

Pennington/Henne/Simms

How can Beck be a back-up QB?

He has never won a game in the NFL. McCown has won plenty of games and has seen plenty of defenses.

Beck looks shaky, still. He even looks shaky when he gives interviews.

I like his arm and his athleticism, but at some point those skills have to come to atleast some use. He's got a long way to go, a very long way.....

Same here.....

I also wouldn't mind us selecting a developmental QB next year, preferably in the mid to late rounds.

Yep. Trust me, I knew Beck was struggling after day 2. I was one of the guys posting in reality here, going "there is no excuse for being outperformed by a rookie in camp". But the FH "experts" got their panties in a bunch over that viewpoint.

Well, I don't hear them chirping as much now. And soon they will be silenced completely. And while I still think that Beck will be a good backup in the NFL, it will probably not be here.
