To everyone who will waste 20 minutes writing about our qb situation, I offer this last piece of advice/opinion.

We don't need a great QB. And I'm not the only one who seems to think so.

Why did Saban draft Ronnie Brown instead of Braylon Edwards, or perhaps a top rated QB?

This has been established from day one as a rebuilding year, not a winning season. They know that the success of a team, as far as superbowls go, is their QB. But Sabans not looking at a SB. He'd be a fool if he was, inheriting a 4-12 team from Wanny.

Lets have a great running game (bringing back Ricky doesn't seem so far off now does it?) and lets pick up a buttload of Defensive players to prevent teams from destroying us.

Lets rework our line to be the best its ever been to protect our QB OR to open up holes for a monster running game

Saban's intention was to never have a consistent west coast style offense, where the QB threw every down for five or six yards. He wants to run those yards, open up the backfield, and have some playmakers make the DEEP bombs, hence our new Offensive coordinator who loooooves to go deep.

This year we'll have to be patient, and much like Bates who took over as Interim Coach, I believe Feeley/Frerotte will take over as Interim Quarterback. At least, until we can draft ourselves a young talent to mold into the next Marino.

Fair enough, I have always felt you dont need a great QB to win. The team as a whole makes or breaks the QB. Who was Tom Brady before he won? Now that they won as a team a few times, he is considered a great QB. I see him as a regular guy who became great because of 45 other guys helping him.

it would be nice if we had a mediocre QB at least though...
i mean, we have 3 3rd string QBs and brock....

What you say is reasonable except for that. Marino was like the Van Gogh of quarterbacks, maybe one in a generation.

I hate the Patsies will all my existence, but Tom Brady doesn't win just because of his supporting cast. He is a very efficient QB who gets things done and doesn't make mistakes unless he is playing us. He isn't Peyton Manning, but he is very efficient, and that is what we need our QB to be.

I'd be happy if we could find a guy of Trent Dilfer caliber to hold us over for a while. However...we have what we have...for this season.

Don't need a Dan Marino, in fact, there is no one close to Marino in the league right now (including Manning). What you need is a balanced offense and a smart, efficient QB like a Bob Griese, Phil Simms or Tom Brady. Unlike most in the media, I don't think Brady is asuperstar QB. I think he's a solid QB in the mold of Griese and Simms.

Sorry man, but you are dead wrong. Brady is a product of th system. Did you see what the patsies second string QB did against the Bungles last week? I think you could plug 1/2 the QB's in the league (excluding anybody on our roster of course) into that system and he would succeed. Brady wasn't touted coming out of college, he has had some breaks and has taken advantage of them, but he is far from being a top rate QB.

The QB's for the top 4 teams last year:

McNabb
Brady
Rothburger
Michael Vick

Out of those 4, the best ones took their teams to the superbowl. We need a great QB unless our Defense and running game play out of their minds.

You may be right about not having to have the next Marino this year (we obviously don't have that), but to advance, even to have an above .500 season, you have to have a serviceable QB...the indications are that we may not have even that. Ferrotte, has the obvious inside track because of his connection with Linehan, not because he is any better than AJ or what AJ has shown so far. We WILL be worse off this year with Ferrotte at the helm than even last year ! We MAY be worse off with AJ at the helm, we just don't know that yet, although he seems to be leaning that way...

Face it, we are in trouble unless one of the QBs, even Berlin (which I cannot stand that guy...what he did to waste the 2 years of talent he was surrounded by at Miami is ashame), stands up and gets counted...Even though, right now, Ferrotte has the edge, I certainly hope Saban lets AJ take over and either improve or die out there than to let Ferrotte surely lead us into the dregs...

because Alex Smith was already drafted? :confused2: Any other qb taken w/ the 2nd pick would be a reach.

I agree. More than 1 super bowl has been won with a less than spectacular QB (TB, Ravens, etc) Running game and O-line are key. As has even been said on this thread, it's not always the QB but maybe the system. We'll see what this system will do as we get closer to the regular season. All other QB's that look great ahve been established in their respective systems and know it like the back of their hand. Look at the difference in Brees. He got a pass protecting line and and excellent rb, then understood the system and went from worst to first
