Greg Cote Article: Must Read IMO

What I would do is similar to what Atlanta did by hiring Thomas Dimitroff from the Patriots to GM the team.

Find an up-and-coming personnel guy who has seen it done well in a very successful organization, give him the reins, and let him hire the new coach.

The new coach may be an up-and-comer as well, like a Raheem Morris or a Mike Tomlin type.

That's the way to go here IMO. Forget the Cowhers and Grudens.

Get a bright, new personnel guy in place and go from there.

that's not going to happen. gotta sell tickets.

why would he steer clear? he gave his list of teams he would like to coach and it was the Giants, Dolphins, and texans, and Ross had carl peterson contact him last year about the coaching position and cowher said he is not discussing anything while we still have a head coach, so I think cowher would absolutely be interested in this job, we have talent and our on the verge of being contenders but this franchise is not being run properly and actually we do have a good market, it's Miami there is serious money down here and one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, we are a major market like LA, Chicago, NYC, the franchise is just not being run right and nobody want's to go to the games, we need structure and need to be put back on the right track and the fans will show up!

good read. couldn't agree more. I think we will beat the browns, but than I again I thought over the course of the last year we would beat a lot of teams we didn't beat. I see no way we beat san diego, or the jets. best case we are 1-4 and out of the playoffs. Better to blow it up midseason and start rebuilding or at least let everyone know that we are going to be rebuilding. what better way to see who wants to play and keep a job by their actions on the field and who is just interested in their next direct deposit.....

one thing is for sure, we need a new coach, and truth of the matter is, we need a high draft pick to set the tone at a key position. whatever the new regime deems is most important.

So im waiting to hear what cowher will say this weekend when they pose the question to him. lol

he will steer clear of miami. bad franchise in bad market.

Not true and I wish you would stop propagating this nonsense. Miami has always been an event town. If they win, the fans will show up. I was a season ticket holder for 10yrs and went to many kickoff breakfasts over the yrs.
There are a core of 40-45,000 loyal season ticket holders out of the approx 73,000 seats at Dolphin stadium. That has always been the case, and they sell approximately 20-25,000 individual game tix to more casual Phins fans.
There have always been a lot of transplants from NY living in Miami and their numbers at the Jets games have always been greatly exaggerated. It usually runs 10-20,000 Jets fans at the games, NOT the 30-40,000 that I have seen reported. And it has nothing to do with personal income differences between Jets fans and Phin fans as has also been reported on this site.
When you hear opposing fans cheering, its usually because the Phins have choked the game away and many of the Phin fans have left early, leaving only Jets fans cheering.
This ratio has changed the last few yrs, NOT because there are more Jets fans, but because there is less enthusiasm for the Phins the last few yrs and fewer casual fans (Phins) are showing up.

Bite the bullet on ticket sales Ross and let Sparano continue to drive this bus off a cliff. Its only 6 more home games for a real shot at Luck,

Forget Cowher and Gruden. No coach has ever won a super bowl with two teams, and only one coach has come off a tv set and won( Dick Vermiel) Also Cowher won one super bowl in 15 years with one of the best franchises in the league. Gruden? ask a bucs fan how he did after he won with dungys team. If there is to be a coaching change, it should be after the season, and it needs to be an emerging talent with a fire to make a name for himself. Remember how Jimmy QUIT on us? he had nothing to prove, and neither does Cowher or Gruden

said it the end of last year... Eric DeCosta from Baltimore Ravens. he's been Ozzie's right hand man for 15yrs.

Well, hope Carl Peterson got his sh*t together during his hiatus. I think he is our next VP of Football Operations unfortunately...

IF something really does go down then Ireland needs to be gone too. He has gotten the benefit of the doubt too many times. Been around a long time, more often then not if they just replace a coach and the GM stays, it tends to really screw the pooch. If you look at most teams the GM is ultimately responsible for what transpired in regards to players. Lets face it, Ireland, Tuna and Tony were all tied at the hip and came in as a package deal. Tuna jumped overboard and left Ireland and Tony. Love Tony just saying if he is gone then Ireland needs to be gone too. For the GM I am sure they will wait until the end of the season.

I think there was a firm number put on Tony and I believe that number was 10 wins. No excuses, no way out, 10 wins is bottom line. With the atomic atmoshere now surrounding the Fans, media and team, Tony admitting he had no answers for whats going on helped push that timetable up. Several players openly admitting practices need to be different only added nails to the coffin.

0-4 at bye week and sadly I believe Tony is gone. 1-3 adn beat the Jets may make things different. 2-2 would do wonders not only for the team fans and Tony, it would put the owner in the better mood but if we go into the meadowlands and let the Jets put a beat down on us ? Well, things will probably happen in an execellerated manner.

Whatever happens it has to be done the right way, the correct way. Simply firing a HC is not only the answer. The new HC is going to bring in people he trusts and thats always not a good thing for anyone. Now, if the new HC happened to be one that creates a lot of Buzz, then yes, he may be able to find coaches to follow him here that believe in him.

Either way, I believe the new coach and GM are going to demand a QB switch if Henne does not improve this season. If a new interim coach is announced and if Henne slips more in a couple of games I can sincerely see Henne being benched for Moore. Not that Moore is that much or any better then Henne but change would be needed to lift spirits of fans and get the media off the Dolphins back so to speak.

The next two games are the most important not only for Tony but for Chad Henne. He needs to be accurate and on the ball. Crap, watching our so called no huddle offense last Sunday with him running it was painful. It was no quicker then if they had called a huddle. It was plain to see not much time was put into the matter of how to successfully run a no huddle offense in the previous weeks practice. These coaches appear to run something 3-4 times and have in their heads,
" Well, the players have that down pat " wrong.

I would not mind Carl Peterson at all. Compared to Peterson, Ireland is a shoe shine boy. Peterson is a visionary and regardless of what some think, a dam good guy that knows how to run football franchises. Ireland was buddies with Tuna and it ended there.
