Greg Cote: Club source- Steve doesn't get it or like it

He's done a lot of things the wrong way but I hesitate to call him clueless. 3 years ago he tried to hire the best young coach in the game and couldn't seal the deal because he made a couple of mistakes.

Maybe he won't make those mistakes this time around and he'll get the guy he needs.

Im not sure it was a a minor mistake to try to hire a coach without a vacancy then turn around and lie about it saying you were advising him and told him he should go back to Stanford. Then the cherry on the sundae you extend your coach you are not satisfied with.
He hasn't been able to seal the deal with any coach or GM that he really wanted. Say what you want about Huzienga but he always got his guy. Nobody thought any team could lure Saban at the time and he made it happen. Same with Jimmy Johnson and PArcells.
Our owner couldn't budge Cowher or Gruden.

Really pissed we didn't fire this moron at the end of last year. I like Mike Zimmer as a coach a lot and we could have had him... Vikings are kind of a dumpster fire of a team right now but I do like him as a coach.

trust.. guys like Harbaugh don't hold their tongues... and Aponte best know an ex-player-now HC ain't taking lip from the 'ladies room' either.. Tannenbaum's a bum, with conflict of interest stuck to the bottom of him shoe.. everybody KEEP CALM and SHUT UP... just ball

I explained this in another thread but Ross went to business school back in the early 60s. That entire fiasco where he tried to get Harbaugh to keep Tony on as the OL coach was entirely a 1960s "GM Case Study" school of management decision. Ross had to learn the hard way that the NFL doesn't follow any code of management philosophy he's ever been exposed to.

I agree that he's bungled some things badly but you have to agree that his first choice for head coach -- a guy that he unfortunately couldn't close the deal with -- turned out to be a pretty good one, yeah? Wayne's problem was that he could get his man, but he couldn't choose the right man. Ross chose the right man but couldn't get him. Maybe this time he gets him.
