Grimes impressed with Jarvis Landry

That's Landry's specialty. The kid has great hands. I'm confident that will continue when the pads come on. Also, he is physical and doesn't shy away from contact, so blocking, pick plays, heavy hits from safeties and even playing special teams will be strengths for the guy.

What we don't know yet is how well he knows the playbook, how precise is his route running, and the big question, how well will he separate vs. NFL CB's? I think in the slot he should be fine because the variety of routes in the slot provides a lot of opportunities to get open that don't always require speed or quickness. He is fairly quick too, so I think he'll be fine.

Can some-one explain to me what the differences are between he and D.Bess? I only ask because supposedly Philbin didn't like a D.Bess type receivers and so far, all indication are Landry is exactly same type.

No he is not the same as DBess, similar but NOT the same. He is younger, a little bigger and faster and can make plays AFTER the catch. DBess was a favorite of mine, and I liked what he brought to the table, but it was the right move to go in a different direction at that time last year. Landry is a PLAYMAKER and is young! We shall see what potential he has, and I think it is bright

can you provide any links as to why you think philbin didn't like devone bess type receivers? are you sure he just didn't like Bess in particular?

In an earlier interview from training camp he said the offense he was in at LSU under Cam Cameron was nearly identical to the one Lazor is implementing. Here is a link.

Landry said it’s nearly identical to what he ran at LSU — which is Cam Cameron’s version of Air Coryell. Cameron, the former Dolphins coach, is now the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. Taking — and hitting on — downfield shots are a big part of his system
.

Most of the draft sites also said that because of his participation in Cameron's offense he was a precise route runner that knew how to run the entire route tree.

Here's just one.

Strengths Good balance and body control. Savvy route runner -- uses stems and nods and works back to throws. Confident hands-catcher -- snatches throws off his frame. Extends and high points. Attacks throws and wins "50-50" balls. Makes some spectacular, acrobatic grabs. Good concentration and toughness over the middle. Does not go down without a fight after the catch. Willing blocker. Lined up outside and inside. Likes to compete and it shows. Has special-teams experience covering kicks. Team captain.

We will have to wait to see if he can get separation but with the CB's he faced in the SEC and the ability to show well there I feel it will translate to the NFL.

D. Bess is a slot receiver only.... Landry can play outside, inside, etc.. He is a more complete WR and a little faster.

Philbin loves versatile players like Odrick, Misi, Nate Garner, Jimmy Wilson.

The knock on Landry is that he's too slow, even when you take into account that he was apparently running on a gimpy hamstring at the combine. Mando posted something from an analytics guy that wrote that it's extremely rare that someone with Landry's 40 time amounts to much in the NFL.

As truedolfan57 said, I think is was more that Philbin didn't like Bess himself, not that type of WR. Bess apparently milked his injury at the end of the 2012 season and that really upset the coaching staff. They just wanted to rid themselves of a player that maybe wasn't as committed as he once was. Worked out for Miami in the end, because Bess has chosen drugs over football.

If Landry starts week one I'm calling it: Offensive rookie of the year.

According to that latest PFF article Tannehill is at his best on passes under 10 yards. Tannehill should be a lot better this year and Landry's route running and big velcro like hands should make him even better. I could see him putting up north of 1000 yards, the TDs will be the big question mark but anything close to 1000 yards and more than 5 or 6 TDs and he will be in the conversation.

From what I have read, everyone keeps saying....

Hines Ward 2.0

Elite possession receiver, don't shy away from contact, enjoys blocking.

I've heard more Anquan Boldin than Ward, both work though!

Didn't Bess have legal issues when we let him go? No comparison at all to Bess.
