Forgot about Jason Peters....dude came back from two Achilles tears and was a top rated LT.

How does Knowshon Moreno end up second? So the criteria is...suck real bad for a few years and then comeback with a good season? What a weird list of candidates.

In the minds of the voters, the "taint" may or may not have had an effect. No one knows. But, to discount the perception that bad publicity could have effected the outcome of the voting is naivety IMHO.
Grimes had a very serious injury, and he had a great season. So...something else came into play.

I think what came into play is that they like to give that award to offensive players, especially QBs (which have won it the last 6 years and 9 of the last 12). Since '72, only 5 defensive players have won, and one of those (Tedy Bruschi) shared it with a WR. QBs have won in 22 of the 42 years.
