Gruden signs 5yr extension with espn

He's done coaching. This generation's John Madden.

He loves this job. Just look at him when he does those sitdowns with the top QB prospects each year.

The big three just became the big two. I have to think that Cowher is the new "favorite" at this point. Of course until he signs an extension with CBS.

With Gruden out, here is how I see Ross' target list:

1. Bill Cowher
2. Jeff Fisher
3. Les Miles

It is call cya there is no guarantee a HC offer will come and this is a guarantee. I am sure there is a out clause just like Fat *** Parcells had in his ESPN contract!

He's more credible as a talker .... the possibility of actually tanking a franchise might like Parcells (hopefully) run the risk of tarnishing his "brand" by having public perception catch up with reality. Gimme Cowher

There will be mass suicides on this site if Les Miles is hired

Starting with me. The guy runs a good defense but his teams are just so undisciplined. He's also one of the more bizarre game managers out there, with "bizarre" being the kindest word I can think of.

This doesn't preclude Gruden coming to Miami, IMO.

If he did turn it down though, I still do not think Cowher would be the target. He is too much of what we have had over the past 15 years - defense first, run the ball mentality. I think Ross wants exciting and wide open, something that brings this team into the current NFL and gets them out of the '70s style of football. I highly doubt you will see Bill Cowher abandon a philosophy he has had for several years and suddenly become a wide open style coach that isn't reliant upon defense and a running game.

Bill Cowher is a good football coach, but he is a bad fit for the direction the Dolphins want to go in. Miami needs a coach who wants to be wide open, up tempo, and is willing to put the game on the quarterback's shoulders and throw the ball around. That isn't Cowher. That probably isn't Fisher. That's either Jon Gruden or perhaps Brian Billick.

Lol great move by gruden. Bunch of rumors about him making a possible come back to coach, more towards the dolphins, plus tonight game. Puts a lot of that press off now. But I bet there is some kind of opt out clause in that extension contract.

doesn't Carl Peterson have ties with Cowher ? now it just seems more likely we will get Cowher.... also we don't know the deal there might be a out clause if he is offered a HC job or something.

He did let the offense open up when they got a franchise QB in big ben i mean he had randel el throwing passes on reverse plays....

Perhaps, but I think Cowher is one who can adapt. The Steelers offense did change a bit once they drafted a QB in the first round. I think he would hire an offensive coordinator that would help make the offense more explosive than a run first team. Ross wants an explosive offense, but he isn't going to not hire Cowher because he is a little more run based on offense than some other candidates. Perhaps Gruden is still the target, but I don't think Ross is going to just cross Cowher off the list. If it came to hiring Cowher or Billick, no question in my mind that he goes with Cowher.

I believe Peterson hired Cowher in Kansas City. Peterson will likely be the voice that tries to sell the Dolphins job to Cowher. It is good to have someone on our side that he is familiar with when it comes to the interview process.

Cowher's dream jobs are said to be Houston, New York(Giants) and Miami. Both the Giants and Texans do not appear in line to make head coach changes. If Cowher wants to coach, the Dolphins job is there for the taking.
