"Gus is a Gunslinger".......

Not really. THe broncos weren't going to hold a QB competition between Frerotte and Plummer - that's a fact.. If Frerotte went to Denver, he was going there to compete for the #2 not the #1.. I think someone is reading too much into that, not the original premise of the thread.

As to the thread topic.. If Smith didn't have anything good to say he wouldn't have said anything bad about Frerrote he just would have said nothing at all. He certainly wouldn't have praised him like he did.

Frerrote is not an all pro because his main problems are a lack of consistancy and mobility. Comparing someone calling Ryan Leaf a "gunslinger" and someone calling Gus Frerotte a "gunslinger" while holding the comparison in a negative way for Frerotte is pretty damn foolish.. Frerotte may do some dumb things - he's not perfect and may be somewhat of a goof, but he does have a good head on his shoulders unlike one Ryan Leaf.. Foolish comparison.

Who said it was a comparison? I didnt compare Frerotte to Leaf. I said that semantically, Leaf could be considered a gunslinger, but he wasnt a good one, likewise with Frerotte.. I in no way compared their mental makeup.. Reading Comprehension is your friend. :)

Tuum Est. You didn't compare, fine, semantics anyway, because it was still a poor analogy, or rather, a poor way to get your point across but still, you can nit pick all you want..

Leaf wasn't a good gunslinger because, why? Because he was a head case.. How is Frerotte not a good one? He's pretty good on the deep throws, not great, but good enough - good enough for Rod Smith to comment him on in a complimentary context, period.

Let me ask you Donkey fans (I say that with respect :D ), is it smart to have Putzier in my starting fantasy lineup?

Gus had a good game against the Chargers. Good for him. Hopefully he can repeat that performance on a regular basis for us, but before we get too shook up over his former teammate's comments and that good game they keep mentioning, remember that Jay Fiedler had a nearly perfect game against Dallas a couple of years ago.

One good game and the praise it brings from ones friends does not make a great QB.

Because he makes boneheaded plays, overthrows practically everyone, has a godawful fumble ratio, and is a poor man's Drew Bledsoe. He is a mediocre QB, as evidenced by 11 or so years of statistical data. That is why he is not a good gunslinger. Additionally, How many TDs has he scored in the preseason? Youd think a "gunslinger" would be able to score more than one fluke TD in 5 games?..

And this was the 2000 Chargers if I am not mistaken, weren't they the 1-15 Ryan Leaf led version?

AJ!! what the hell happened to ya bro? BTW, i see your boy is sitting at #3. He will be out of football soon. Saban dont like guys with lax attitudes.

A Fumble ratio? what the hell is that? I dont think I ever heard the term before, but I think it means Gus doesnt throw INT's.

relation of fumbles to snaps. You fumble.. ALOT. At least your stats say so Gus.

Today, Frerrote went 12-21 and 250 yards 0 INT's and had a fumble ratio of 1:5. ......or is that 5:1?
