Gus is the starter....... so what?

Gus will be the starter this year, barring any injury. He had one good season with the Redskins. The improved o-line, good receiving core and upgraded running game should help Gus as a QB. If he stays healthy, expect 3500+ yards passing and 20+ TDs this season. Maybe he will surprise this year.

Comeback Player of the Year!

...Saban played musical qb's in the bowl game in Orlando on New Year's Day. I watched him replace them if they started sucking. Confusing.

Nah

I think it is fairly clear that Saban is going with Frerotte as starter.

It is Frerottes job to lose now.

Ok, let's go Frerotte. get it done.
I do agree, I think Frerotte got the job from the day that we got him, the new OC likes him, his comfortable with him because he knows the system. I dont know about AJ, I feel that since his with us, last year he had to learn a new system ( which was no system really ) and again this year. With Frerotte under center, will give us more stability, but we are going to run the ball a lot.

Actually, Gus only played 13 games in 1997. Pro rate the numbers for a 16 game season and you are looking at 3300 yds and 21 tds.

Granted he is 34, however, look at Rich Gannon. He did not pass for more than 2305 yds or exceed 16 tds until his 12 year in the league. He was in his mid 30s and produced at a pro bowl level for four years (1999-2002).when he and was placed in the Oakland offense or when he was in his mid 30s.

 Here is the link to Rich Gannon's stats:

i think Gus is better right now because of the familarality with the system.I also think Saban might be trying to light a fire under AJ azz.

I was thinking the same thing. It is very similiar to Gannon's career and if Gus can provide us 3 years of decent qb play than I'm all for it.
