Happy Ted Wells Day!

If Incognito doesn't get a gig in the NFL again, what the heck WILL he do? He won't be a coach. He won't be in the media. He is toxic. He blows all his money on booze and women. What is there left for him to do post-football?

That being said, guys like Sileo and Sid Rosenberg continue to get local radio gigs, so I guess he could do that.

Just trying to understand this, how is this different from the issue with Aldon Smith in SF this year? Didn't they essentially say go get help and come back? Wouldn't that be a similar situation.

I agree. Hence I'm surprised Aldon Smith did not try to get all his money back or look into legal action.

Then again, I think Aldon Smith situation was more of a "let me get help so I don't get fired for being a idiot" rather than Martin's case which seems to be REAL mental issues.

He seemed to enjoy his trip to Brazil. Maybe he can pack up his raisin balls and **** off there forever.

I don't think people have even fully gone through the ramifications of the report's findings. From what I have seen, I don't think this report vindicates Martin or is terrible for the team.

It makes Incognito look like a huge prick. He is. It makes Pouncey look like a dip****. He is. It makes Jim Turner look like an easy target for the social justice brigade because he put a male blowup doll in a guy's Christmas stocking ().

Agreed 149.2%

Aldon Smith was on paid leave. It was something he worked out with the team before he went into rehab.

OK, please clarify. If you are mentally or physically unable to perform your given job duties due to an illness that wasn't caused by the workplace, you can file a discrimination claim?

Think of the following scenarios:

A person suffering from MS applies to be a firefighter. Due to their illness, they are unable to perform the tasks required for the job. They have a case for discrimination due to illness?

A former college professor suffers permanent brain damage and still wants to remain on staff even though they are no longer able to perform the tasks required for the job. They have a case for discrimination due to mental illness?

If you are HARASSED by a perceived mental illness issue you can. Clearly he was picked on because he was soft. Because he was "different". He left because he couldn't take the teasing that may or may not have offended you or I, which is redundant. It offended him. That's all it takes.

I have read the full report and I am greatly saddened to read about my beloved team in this way. Reading many Finheaven contributor comments, it amazes me that so many seek to defend Incognito, Pouncey and Jerry and condemn Martin and others. The Wells Report appears very thorough and there does appear to be evidence of harassment.
I am not surprised by the findings, I thought that there was likely to be substance all along. I am disgusted and appalled by the nature of the report,
Time to clean house on the O-line. These players are meant to behave like professionals, Turner needs to be fired today by Philbin. Head Trainer O'Neill is on thin ice because he refused to cooperate with the investigation.
For anyone who is interested in the matter, my advice is to take the time to read the report and draw your own conclusions. For everyone who sees Martin as the culprit and Incognito as the victim, I urge you to read the report. The breadth of issues pertaining to the Asian Assistant Trainer and player A are also very concerning.
GoonBoss correctly assessed Martin as being weak, but with the evidence presented, I concur with Wells conclusions.
Root cause of the problem is that for all of Incognito's talent on the field, he is/was uncontrollable and should not have been the designated O-line team leader. Regardless of his popularity on the team, he is probably an alpha dog sociopath and he was the guy selected and encouraged to be the guy to toughen Martin up. Very poor decision (and Philbin, Sherman, Turner and Ireland hold some responsibility in both permitting it and not monitoring it closely). Sherman and Ireland are gone and it's a formality that Turner will be fired. Philbin needs a reality check in the circumstances.

Umm, that isn't what I was talking about in my original post... It was about whether or not Philbin could demote Martin because his depression was making him unable to perform. Another poster stated that Philbin couldn't do such a thing because it could be considered discrimination.

I honestly found the harrassment of the trainer and Player A more egregious than anything that happened to Martin...

I am in the process of reading the report. SLOWLY. Context of the report and information contained is crucial.

The one thing that keeps going through my mind is that many athletes come from pretty rough circumstances. For example, as a way to get out of the hood. Martin, clearly coming from an upper class black family may always have been ridden by guys jealous of his status.

I believe we're going to here from 31 other teams that are going to say this never happens in their locker room. I think that is BS. Think similar situations have occurred. But none have had a player with the mental issues that made Martin as sensitive as he's been.

Lastly, trash talk is a way of life in the NFL. You get a kid from the wrong part of the tracks, getting put through school with athletics, not learning anything academically, often after making it in pro sports they go back to the "hood" to impress their friends... I think to myself, these guys aren't people who are going justly represent respectful workplace policy? They come from an environment where only the strong survive. it's a weird situation.

I see guys like Peter King talk about how appalled he is. I'm like really?!

I see juvenile behavior by men who have been entitled their entire lives all of a sudden being asked to act like choirboys.

I have no problem admitting there is a problem. But it's a vast issue other than simply cursing the result.

The popular and politically correct thing to say will always be offended. But there will be many players who simply will remain silent seeing nothing wrong by this.

Or even more troubling and undermining to the process, who will still look at Martin as that "rat" who opened the doors to the private refuge of the locker room.

What do yo think?

As punishment for his crimes, Richie is sentenced to be the Japanese trainer's butler for a year. Hijinx ensue. (Comedy, 30 min.)
