Happy Ted Wells Day!

Jeff Darlington said it could be awhile befor the NFL and the Dolphins decide on possible suspensions, fines, etc. That is unacceptable IMO, if they are going to do anything, do it now. With free agency and the draft looming, Hickey needs to know if Pouncey is being suspended or if any late round picks won't be available.

Just finished reading the entire report, has to be the saddest thing I have ever read about the Miami Dolphins, as a life-long fan (40 yrs +) it definitely was hard to wade through. I know everyone comes to being a fan of a team for different reasons, for me I am from Miami this team represents my hometown; I am a fan regardless of success or failure it’s about regional pride. I believe the organization and its great history will transcend this ugly chapter however today I am saddened.

A few things that jumped out at me after reading the report; RI seems to be the antagonist I thought he was, however re-reading his history and the accounts of his behavior it was hard not to be empathetic, what a troubled young man. I completely get that there is a fraternal culture that includes off-color behavior in the locker room. But it does appear RI is completely rudderless when it comes to a guiding moral framework. It hard to discern where that came from, it appears to be some combination of mental illness, arrested development coupled with an embarrassing vision of what masculinity is. There are plenty of sports or physical endeavors that require “toughness” none come to mind that advocates literally sabotaging the very fraternity that it is attempting to build.

The details of Jerrys and Pounceys behavior should not go unnoticed I am struggling to see their value to the organization.

In regards to JM I just am missing the need to castigate him, yes he is a professional football player, but he is also someone’s son, someone’s brother and a fellow human being. I get that many would not have made the decisions he made. However it was troubling to me to read the kind of treatment he received at the hands of his teammates. All seemingly because he came from a stable family, liked reading books and was generally mild mannered. Everything I read about his mental health was all self-diagnosed and was not a factor during his college career. Big Weirdo?

Well said!

Biggest load of **** I have ever read. They reject the notion that it was all in good fun, but then turn around and say they dont believe Incognito & co. intended to drive him from the team or cause him lasting emotional injury? Isnt that kind of contradicting itself? Do I think Incognito is a good guy? **** no. Do I think that some of the **** went to far? Possibly. This **** happens in all football locker rooms though. High school, college, and NFL, if anyone cares to dispute that, then you were never part of football locker room. What I see is a troubled young man who couldnt take not only the rigors of NFL life, but obviously the locker room culture. Someone who himself stated he went along with most of it to try to fit in, instead of drawing the line in the sand and saying this **** ends now. He showed no backbone standing up for himself. The man is 6-5 312lbs.....you ****in man up and end it yourself or you go to the main man (Philbin) and he ends it. Yet another avenue to stop the "harassment" he did not pursue. I find fault with the report because as I read it I see pages upon pages of one sided content that was seemingly decided upon before player interviews were ever even conducted.

Nothing excuses the behavior defined within these pages. I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

It acknowledges Martin's "play along to fit in" behavior, and provides a pretty good explanation for it (Martin was a depressed, suicidal kid who has had problems standing up for himself from his youth). What makes you think there's any more to it than that?

Seriously, some of you guys (I'm not going to call you out by name - you know who you are) need to get over yourselves. You've called Martin and his parents snakes, money-grubbers, shakedown artists, etc. Now that the report has come out, we can see it was a juxtaposition of a troubled head case (with justifiably concerned parents) who likely had no business being in any NFL locker room, placed with nutjobs like Incog and Pouncey. Stop reading your ridiculous (and conflicting) conspiracy theories into this (e.g. "they'll sue everyone alive", "they're going after Goodell", "Wells wants the NFLPA CEO job", etc.). It's not about the money or the book deal or the power or whatever. It's putting badly behaving thugs with a mentally troubled kid and seeing what kind of crappy result you get. End of story.

He is a snake because when someone is harassed, he needs to ask the person making the jokes to stop. Going to the bathroom and crying and then texting Mom does not count.

If these players thought that Martin was okay with it, the behavior will continue.

If it is true that Martin did not feel comfortable telling Incognito to stop, then he should have gone to the HC and if that failed, the GM.

He did not and chose this approach of lawyering up and making this a court case in the public.

BTW, why is Martin not being called out for making up the attack at Pouncey's house? Why is Martin not getting called out for obvious use of drugs? Why is the media afraid of taking the strip club photos and asking the question of whether or not he looks bullied?

It is sad that TMZ and deadspin are the toughest levels of journalism here.

I am curious why you think that a person is a snake for not asking a bully to stop? Snake implies sneaky, up to something etc. I don't think I have ever seen some called a snake for not standing up for themselves, coward maybe?

If I project myself into the situation I definitely hope I would act as you suggest but according to the report the taunting/bullying occurred in front of the team and coaches (including to other teammates and staff). There appeared to be a "Judas Rule" explicitly forbidding what you are advocating even to the extent that during film study Linemen where suppose to take blame for a mistake they knowingly didn't do. How does a team improve if a mistake is made by others and someone else is expected to take responsibility? Your point is clear and makes sense I am struggling to see what options Martin had.

I think he is sneaky. I think Wells went out of his way not to "blame the victim". Anytime Martin does something that might be considered improper, there is an excuse. He hazes others….he is just trying to fit in. He does not report the harassment…he does not feel comfortable coming fwd. Joe offers help from team shrink….Martin cannot identify with the shrink because he is old. Martin does drugs….he is medicating his depression.

At what point does Jon Martin have to advocate for himself?

Why is nobody asking how strange it is to keep a voice mail from months ago from Incognito?
Why is nobody asking him how he might have made up this "heinous attack" at Pouncey's house?
Why is nobody asking him about being a drug user?

Question to you or anyone else….if you were a GM, would want Jon Martin on your team?

Because just like the rest of his life, he is being throw a softball, so it won't hurt him.
He said it best himself in the letter to his Mama. he is a pu$$, and that's never going to change.
Get him the hell out of here, before he goes postal, like every other coward who can't handle the real world.

Incognito, Jerry and Pouncey kept ragging on the guy, but I do not think they knew Martin was feeling so bad. If they did, I believe they stop.

Was there behavior over the top? Yep. However, young men in athletic setting can be brutal in ripping each other. Does it make it right? No, but it is what it is until the culture changes.

Thanks, that clears it up for me I was not following you on the snake moniker. I think you have legitimate questions about Martins behavior. One thing I try never to do is to think I can decipher others motives (I don't think you are either, simply asking good questions). My best completely anecdotal view is that the culture of the NFL/Dolphins is a cross between Lord of the Flies, One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest and 1984. It appears that what is considered normal (hazing etc.) is part of dysfunctional frat boy jockocracy that very few of us would tolerate. That being said after reading the report it appears that even in that manic environment Sociopaths can be promoted to team leaders, perpetrators can become victims. Apparently there is even a line that can be crossed in a psych ward.

I have no idea on why he kept the voicemail, but hell I have no idea why anybody incessantly takes pictures with their phone of a parade as opposed to actually watching the damn thing. In regards to the attack I can't give an opinion, I have no idea why he exaggerated it. I hate to sound jaded on the drug issue, but for me its pretty clear that we live in a drug culture from recreational to PED its sadly the norm.

I reluctantly think I would want to see JM go somewhere else and finish his career. Would I have selected him originally, he seemed a good bet, blind side for Luck, he had to be good. I say reluctantly because I don't think we got to see his full potential.

I just started the following thread... http://www.finheaven.com/showthread.php?351978-Martin-comes-clean

But must weigh in on this thread.

I too am low key & prefer to read but will disarm people with a Groucho Marx/Frasier Crane like observation if needs be. Recently, someone tried to say I had a golden spoon life. My reply that my life was no more difficult for me than yours has been for you. Needless to say, person X did not have a comeback.

As for RI & Pouncey, (to paraphrase Groucho), "They make look like idiots and they may act like idiots. But, don't let that fool you. They really are idiots."

While Martin was inactive he made as much money in one week as I do in a year.

Jon Martin has internet PR people actually hitting up message boards to get the word out. This truly is a 21st century scandal.

This vid is not directed at anyone promise! It somehow seemed appropriate to the overall scene. Hopefully its seen as levity and not self righteousness.
