I'm not ready to throw our TEs out the window. Egnew made great strides this year and Sims did OK for a rookie. I'd like to see more use of Clay as an actual fullback for him to make sense going forward, OR, more of Egnew acting like a true fullback (which I saw work relatively well in limited opportunities). Egnew's not the biggest beast of a physical TE, but I think as a fullback his size could push a pile and open something up for Miller. Yeah, the more I think about it, Egnew should be a fullback more often and Clay should be the receiving TE or the 3rd down back. I'd like to see Clay get more draw-play runs to see if he can be effective doing that, as then it creates total confusion in opposing defenses on what he might do on any play (like, a screen to Clay that saved our season to that point vs NE).
If Miami can sign Grimes, grab another good linebacker to replace Wheeler and draft or sign another true pass rusher while maybe Dion Jordan becomes Wheeler's replacement, our D wouid be pretty good next year. Wheeler and the limited use of Jordan have really hurt Miami's defense. From what I've seen, Vernon has gotten a lot of coverage sacks. I don't remember him blowing up OT's very often and getting in quick. We still need a true compliment for Wake (and eventual replacement). We also need an upgrade for Clemons.
On offense, I think we can pick up one RB free agent better than Thomas. Kick Gillislee to the curb (yes, you can rub this in my face if he ever becomes great, blah blah) or let Thomas be the back-up's back-up. There's always good running backs available early in Free Agency and sometimes even in late July. We need to draft another WR who can develop into a guy (wishing for wishing sake) like Keenan Allen. We actually had that guy but we let him escape to Cleveland. Tyms, right? Kid looked good. Maybe that Binn character can make a spash in camp next year. Still, draft more competition. Then, but not least but first: Offensive line. Please God, let Miami acquire some effective O-line help.
Ultimately, all seems dark and down if Sherman remains in Miami.
