Has Jeff Ireland done enough to change your opinion of him at this point?

Bill Polian gets a pass for the one great pick he made in Peyton Manning. Looking how bad the team was without him, goes to show that he was more hype than good.

Bill Polian had a difficult decision at the time, Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf, its easy to sit here now after all the successes of Peyton and all of Ryan's failures to overlook how difficult of a decision it was for Bill Polian and the Colts. Bill has stated that from the beginning they were leaning towards Peyton, but Peyton was no where near close to being the unanimous or "right" pick for them at #1. But what you call being more hype than good, I call making the right decision and creating an all out superbowl contender year in and year out for over a decade. We could only be so lucky as to have a GM to provide that for us.

As for Jeff Ireland. I think he botched free agency any way you look at it. Not getting Flynn or Manning has nothing to do with it for me, but overspending on guys like Richard Marshall and Artis Hicks just doesn't sit well. As for the draft, I loved it. This league starts and ends with the quarterback position. He has said all along that Tannehill was his target and has backed up his pick with conviction, nothing I can fault there, whether or not I disagree with the pick (which i don't).

The bottom line is that his favor with the fans and his job will most likely be a result of whether or not Tannehill pans out. If he does, maybe he will be lucky enough to one day be called over hyped after contending for a superbowl year in and year out on a roster he built.

Well a lot will depend on how this season goes, but he DID finally manage to address the QB situation first and foremost in the draft. Whether that works out obviously remains to be seen, but he's done a decent job this offseason. Not only did he have an above average draft (according to 90 percent of fans), but he got a deal done with Wake, and probably got the best trade value we were going to get for a diva receiver who could be facing a huge suspension this season. He still needs to get Jake's contract extension done, and if he brings in a reliable guard in or two...icing on the cake!

Nonetheless, this season will still be critical for him. If we finish anywhere worse than last season's 6-10, he could be on very thin ice. I actually think we can finish 9-7 this season given the schedule if all goes well. What may have bought him more time, though, is the pick of Tannehill. He's most likely not going to see a lot of action this year barring any major injuries or surprise results, but if Tannehill ends up working out in the next year or two, it could secure Ireland's tenure in Miami for another few years. One things for certain, Ireland KNOWS patience is running thin in Miami and across Dolphins nation. Progress has to come and soon...hopefully Philbin and the team can get this ship righted for that to happen.

Nope....I "STILL" want him gone. This draft doesnt give him a free pass for failures of the past.Just my opinion of course......And the sour grapes is still there with alot of us.Just because the yelling, screaming, and protesting of him is down.....dont kid yourself. It's only because theres absolutely nothing we can do about him.Like it or not,we are at his mercy. And Ross doesnt have enough hair on his testicles to do anything about him either. We could win 11 games, and make it to the AFC Championship Game, and I'd still want him gone............

Hell, if we could pull all that off in the next year or two, he'd have a great case to stay GM of the Miami Dolphins. Oh, and I'm not saying it WILL happen, so before you some of you go off haywire on me, keep that in mind!

Why? Because everyone 'feels' good about the draft..? I'm sure if you polled most of the fanbases around the league they ALL feel good... it is what the draft does, it gives hope... Every year the same thing... Optimism for the sake of it, when the reality is NOTHING has changed... until this class takes some snaps...

I will go even further to say that I will not give Ireland credit for Tannehill... Conversely nor will I lynch him for it. I'm serious. Our QB situation was SO ABYSMAL... Tannehill was a 'no brainer' the MOST OBVIOUS choice even at 8... This was not a bold move... This was not Ireland putting his butt on the line or proving he actually VALUES the position... Look at all the good will generated around here by the selection... it was the popular choice, it was the smart choice but most of all it was the OBVIOUS choice. It was Ireland moving to FIX the mess that he CREATED... The fact that Tannehill was there for the taking is little more than timing.

Listen I love the pick and i can't wait to see how the kid pans out but I'm not going to call Ireland a genius simply because he managed to change the sheets he pi**ed in. Especially BEFORE he or any of the other picks have even taken a snap.

Good to hear someone with at least a level head around here....

I will disagree with Tannehill though. I believe it was a reach...the first Ireland and Co. has done in the 1st. Others have all been "safe" picks. This was not a "safe" pick. However, I am not sure that even if he fails that Ireland will take the blame. I bet he will throw Sherman to the wolves and say he relied on him for the pick if it fails. If if succeeds, he will, of course, take all the credit.

I remember folks around here saying last year that we had to have a good season for both Sparano AND Ireland to stay. Then we went 0-7...and quite frankly, lucked into the fact that Moore was better than expected and actually played some really crappy teams. He should have been gone with Sparano. I can't believe the guy is still here, but that shows you has screwed we are with Ross as the owner. It goes beyond Ireland....Ross is the real problem.

:ponder: No. Need to see more than a couple decent drafts

I didn't like his drafts before or the fact that he has not managed the cap well. We have no room under the cap but not many playmakers at all. But I really liked this past draft. We'll see how he does from here on out.

Ozzy rules!!

Not sure they have been all Irelands fault but the past 4 drafts (not including this year) on the
offensive side of the ball have been poor at best.

2008
Jake Long
Chad Henne
Lorenzo Booker
Jalen Parmele
Shawn Murphy
Donald Thomas
Lex Hilliard

Only 1 starter out of 7 coming off a season of 1-15
Having the #1 draft pick and having high draft picks in every round
we should have loaded up with offensive starters for years

2009
Brian Hartline
Pat White
Pat Turner
John Nalbone
Andrew Gardner

1 starter who has scored 1 td in the past 26 games is dreadful at best

2010
coming off a season where this team was 15th in points scored on offense
we draft only 1 offensive player

John Jerry... and we wonder why our offense went into the toilet bowl
we dropped 25% in points scored in 1 season

2011
Daniel Thomas
Edmond Gates
Charles Clay

Only Charles Clay has shown to be a player
Thomas has had hammy problems since his senior bowl
Gates needs to learn how to be a receiver

Lets hope this years draft class is better than what we have seen the past 4 years

I can't forgive anyone who drafted Jimmy Wilson. Everyone has different priorities and I'm not going to downgrade my outrage at that choice, after following the case from the outset.

Based solely off the last two seasons where Tuna wasnt an influence. Id say hes done better than what most give him credit for.

um well, that might be a conversation best left to the pofo, but two juries later he was aquitted.

[During dinner, the phone rang. It was Wilson’s aunt, Opal Davis, who lived nearby. Davis, who at 26 was close to Wilson, tearfully told his grandmother that her boyfriend, Kevin Smoot, had gotten drunk, beaten her and urinated on her.
