My quick answer is NO! With the talent we have this year he better do better than 8-8. No more excuses. You knew the Oline was going to be a problem and they, it seems, have not fixed it. That is on Philbin and Hickey's shoulders. No improvement and it's, Do not let the door hit you on the way out. Once again we start over because we have idiots in the ownership box!

Before the preseason win against Tampa Bay, head coach Joe Philbin made a bold statement on Friday at the team's annual Luncheon in Miami:
"We have the best roster that we've had in the three years I've been here," said Philbin.
Ineed, from a regular season record point-of-view, the team have improved, albeit marginally. Philbin started his tenure with a new quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, and went 7-9 (an improvement on the 6-10 in the previous season), before posting an 8-8 record in his second season.
But from a talent perspective, have the team improved? Have these coaches maximized the talent on this football team?

I disagree. You can't repair the damage caused by a goon like Ireland in 2 years. We're still seeing the effects of it.

As of the end of last season I don't think we've improved. We got a bit better in some positions and a bit worse in others.
Our offense still sucked and our defense declined.
We'll see if that changes this year. This is a question best answered at the end of this season IMO.

I think we have improved...however I am disappointed that more quality interior lineman were not signed....considering the dire straits of this O-line last year.

If the line comes together...this could be a good year.

We have definitely improved. But we still have a lot more improving to do.

I think most people would say improved yes... improved enough no. Looks like Miami's been adding one win per season (6-10, 7-9 and 8-8). I think Miami need to add two wins (10-6) to get people excited, 9-7 might not be enough.

Sparano was a disaster and Ireland was extremely difficult to work with and appears to have made a series of errors in Free Agency and the Draft last year. This is a critical year for Joe and he knows it. The appointment of Lazor is very significant in Tannehill's development.
Lazor brings creativity to the equation and Joe's strength is his organizational skills (even the old Green Bay guys talk about his excellence in preparation). Creativity + organizational skills + talent is a pretty potent combination. If the O-line makes the necessary progress and our linebackers get their act together, we are set to make the playoffs.

This is the year to tell. The Mike Sherman influence (aside from his putrid offense) and instability caused by Jeff Ireland are both gone. The team has come together with excellent chemistry in a way I haven't seen in a long while. This has all the makings of a successful season for Joe, and if it's not, no more excuses and he's done.

My dog would be an improvement over Tony Sparano. With that being said, I would say that Philbin is an improvement, but that is not a major accomplishment considering who the previous coach was.

No expert here, but it seems to me we are doing pretty good at WR, TE, DE, DT, and CB. However, our OL, LB, and S play are holding us back. No team is perfect and good OL play could help us take the next step, but I am not sure it will come soon enough. Oh well... Still looking forward to our game against the Patsies. Who knows, we might surprise. :-)

Yes (10-6) would be fantastic..........However I think (9-6) is more realistic.

What areas are we worse in?
