Have you missed Surtain and Knight?

Surtain - Yes
Knight - No

Even if we had Poole healthy and he ended up being as good as Surtain. I'd always miss Surtain. He was a great Phin. It just sucks that we couldn't keep him because of the salary cap.

Just wondering how the Fins preseason is going. We in KC land have been very happy with the play of Patrick Surtain and "Sergeant" Sammy Knight. How is the D coping with the loss of those two players, and have they been easy to replace?

Good luck on a great season...Bet your excited to see Ronnie Brown run.

I hope Knight & Surtain give you guys some good years. And yes our secondary will miss them but we will cope. Thank you for the good wishes. I am looking forward to seeing that KC offense from 2 years ago re-emerge they were damn good too watch. Nice to see fans from other teams come in just to ask friendly questions instead of just to talk smack all the time.

Anyone who thinks we aren't gonna miss Surtain is crazy, he has been outplaying Madison for years. Madison at times seems ****y and afraid to tackle, but I never saw Surtain give less than 100 percent. Knight on the other hand can make big plays, but he also gave up as many big plays. He's certainly not going to help anyone's coverage even though he will pick one every now and then.

you think you have something in knight and surtain? just wait til the games matter lol. i won't deny they are better than what we have, but that ain't sayin' a whole lot.

I disagree. Yeremiah Bell is more athletic and has more range than either of our starting safeties last year. When Schulters gets healthy I actually think we will be better at the safety position than last season.
So far in the last 2 preseason games our CB's have held up pretty well, but I still wish we could have kept Surtain and traded Madison. Primarily because Surtain was a pretty good run supporter as well as a cover corner.

except for last year

I miss both players, because they were good ones, but do I think we're better off in the long run, saying goodbye? of course. i hope they work out for the chiefs, but are held out unexplicably when you play us. ;)

this kind of homerism kills me. if you didn't appreciate knight when he was here, you weren't paying attention.

Knight has been fantastic. It's nice to have Surtain and Knight on the same side of the field, because they are familiar with each other. Knight is a run stopper, a hard hitter, and a ball hawk. That's exactly what KC needed at the SS position. Our D doesn't ask our SS to cover that much, it asks our SS to make plays, and we weren't getting that before.

Knight has been the biggest surprise out of all our D acquisitions...Although Derrick Johnson has been unbelievable at OLB.

Of course I miss Surtain but we had no realistic way of keeping him financially, so we had no choice but to trade him and I'm still very glad that we got that 2nd round pick and didn't end up giving up just a 4th. Great move by Saban and our front office. Before the acquisitions of TeBucky Jones and Lance Schulters, I did think that we were definitely going to miss Sammy Knight despite some of the peoples thoughts around here. I wasn't too confident with Bell and Tillman starting but I feel that they give us great depth. And while the secondary is a concern now, I think Jones and Schulters will get adjusted and it will take some time but I do think that they will be excellent replacements for Knight and Freeman and I hope for them to excell in Saban's defensive sheme, and I definitely do think they have to be much better than Knight and Freeman, and perhaps even Knight and Marion. Second CB is a major concern with Surtain gone now and Madison assuming the #1 role, but I feel that Travis Daniels has done an UNBELIEVABLE job thus far filling in and that Reggie Howard will perform better than many feel he will around here. The loss of Will Poole really hurts tremendously, but I'm hoping guys like Howard, Daniels, Edwards, and I even am hoping for good things from Kris Richard (especially on Special Teams) so I feel that our secondary (while weaker than last year, no doubt without Surtain) can still be above average and able to excell sucessfully in this defensive system.

i really liked sammy knight....he was a big big hitter...and i honestly think our defensive scheme the last few years was built around 2 huge DT's that stuffed the middle, and filter alot of stuff to MLB

when chester and bowens went down, we could never stop the run

and hell yes i miss surtain...he is a playmaker.....and he instantly forces teams to respect your secondary....sammy knight will also add to that.

any of these guys that are now talking crap ...you shoulda heard all of us praising surtain and knight for how awesome they were when we were shopping htem for picks or w/e and now trying to play it off.......
