Hayden Fox's Assessment Week Three Assessment

Hayden, great summary as always.

Didn't get to watch the first half, but listened to it and seemed like a lot of drops by the receivers. I did get to watch the second half and found myself screaming at Tannehill most of the time for his crappy play....very disappointing.

A lot to be disappointed about, but that bonehead move by Hartline after the TD was too much to take. Let's hope they get their act together for next week..

I actually like Lazor and most of his playcalling. What I see the majority of the time is players not executing AT ALL. Tannehills piss poor accuracy and taking sacks when he should be throwing the ball away, players dropping passes.. Even the OL is vastly improved from last season and doesnt look like a weakness on this offense.

Coyle, as I have stated for 2 years, I feel has always been garbage.

Philbin, I had his back for the past two years. Now, I want him gone. Even to the point I dont care of the team continues to lose if it means he gets canned.

Hickey, I really like him. He did add alot of talent to this team. Its not his fault the coaching staff doesnt know what to do with it.

Our roster construction was questionable with some guys gone like Jones whose replacements at the bottom of our roster are causing us to lose games as much as the guys at the top.

I agree.
On some of the passing plays RT panicked. Other guys were open or were coming open if he waited another second.
Did anyone else notice late in the game where the offense stepped up to another gear? Where was that earlier.
Philbin is the wrong man to be head coach. He adds nothing offensively, defensively, or on ST's. He was in charge during Bully gate. He is not a good team manager either. Wallace is right...he IS boring. No one listens to him.
Coyle..I hate his scheme. I want an attacking man to man scheme. None of this 10 yard cushion of 2nd and 5 stuff.

I think you covered everything Hayden. Appreciate the effort.

i really have trouble with this considering the great week of practice the team had according to Joe. Again came out uninspired and flat with the exception of our pass rush and Miller running the ball.
In all three first halves this year we have been pathetic especially on offense.

I'm loving this Jenkins kid - making plays all over the field. Other than that today was completely frustrating.

And I take back what I said about Miller - he seems to be getting better. We should have given the run more chances today. It's what we did to come back against NE. Why did we keep putting it in the QBs hands when he was playing poorly?

Crazy how promising the offense looked in week 1 against the Pats and how bad it has looked the past 2 games. Is it just coincidence that it coincides with the Moreno injury?

**** this team and it's horrible coach/qb combo. Piece of **** team piece of **** owner and piece of **** all around. What an embarassment we all suppprt

Lazor has been a major disappointment

then you are not watching and/or dont know WHAT your watching.

the scheme is there. the execution from the players, especially the qb are not.

lazor and hickey are the LAST of the worries we have.

Piss poor coaching is where it starts. Philbin is coaching not to lose, Lazor has been a major disappointment and Coyle got schooled by Andy Reid. Poor tackling, lack of execution by players, lack of discipline and then the issues with the QB. And once again this team plays with little or no emotion. This team has regressed significantly and quite honestly, I'm not expecting to beat the Raiders.

I think we'd be 3-2 out of the last 5 games with Henne. He know when to throw the ball away. We'd probably be 4-1 with Pennington, and 2-3 with Moore. We're 1-4 in the last 5 games with Tannehill. Tannehill's pocket awareness is abysmal and I'm sorry, that will never be fixed. If we start peeling off wins, it will be because of the OL and RBs and D. More likely, Tannehill is in for a 40-50 sack season on the way to 6-10. Tannehill has the physical tools, but he had more drive in his first season than he does in the past 5 games.

I felt there was a lot of energy in the first half of the game by the defense and special teams that Philbin and the offense failed to take advantage of which you cannot due against a veteran coach like Ried. Philbin was relying that would play out into the second half but the offense kept kicking the D back on the field enough that it exposed out warts at LB etc. Looked like Ried game planned to not worry about our running game and make RT beat us. Philbin instead of taking advantage of that played way to conservative along with pushing the passing game way to much. The biggest or most explosive plays were by Miller and Daniel Thomas for example not a particular strength of out offense. Looked to me that the OT were a larger problem today than our interior of the OL considering how bad I expected Dallas Thomas to show up so some props to him. Lazor it appears has decided to make Wallace a focal point of our offense which is problematic for 2 reasons you shut down one player and the offense goes inept and of course if that players goes out injured for some reason you have no offense. Where the heck is Gibson or Mathews this year for example, Mathews has like 2 catches and Gibby maybe a couple more. Spread that ball around and Clay what the heck is that ankle that bad?

I really really don think Jimmy Wilson gets enough credit for how absolutely horrific he is at tackling. go back and watch Wilson wiff on Knile Davis's first TD run.

Also finnagan's attempt on Kelce's TD

I know some other people have been paying attention to it but jimmy Wilson is very very bad at tackling.

* The same betting group that moved Buffalo from +1 to -1.5 last Sunday tried the opposite route today. They pounded the Dolphins from -3.5 to -5.5 in the final hour before kickoff. Even in a short sample it's remarkable how going with or against the big picture logical route can cleanse or burn. There's value in taking a home team in the pick-em range among two moderate teams, but there's no value in giving 4 or 5 points with the home team in the same type of situation. When benefit of a doubt is in question, don't align with Sun Life Stadium and home field impact.

* Russell Wilson in one overtime possession managed as many touchdowns as Ryan Tannehill in 60 minutes.

* Speaking of Wilson, that was another game that played out logically to Fury of Anti Revenge (FAR) standards. Seattle's energy and motivational edge carried to a 17-3 halftime lead. But once FAR wears off it can become ugly and desperate. Denver scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and I'm very confident they would have scored in overtime if given an opportunity.

* Joe Philbin is far superior in clock management strategy when the other team has the ball than when the Dolphins own it. That final time out of the first half should have been used with 41 seconds remaining as soon as the long play ended at the 13. If you don't call it there you waste half your time scrambling to get downfield and line up. Sure enough, the next snap came at 18 seconds. Ridiculous. Tannehill is not sharp enough to understand he can't run down to the 2 on second down. Philbin had to bail him out earlier with ideal strategy.

* Rushing yards don't mean anything if they aren't accompanied by at least a moderate number of rushing attempts. It's the point I've made on this site since 2005 and on Las Vegas radio shows beginning in 1988. At these number of rushing attempts and with our current yards per pass attempt, we're headed for a disastrous season unless something changes. I'm not sure we've ever been so poor in that combo after 3 games.

* Our tackles were guaranteed to regress. I mentioned that last week. When you read that Albert is first and James is 6th, that hardly means that we have the best bookends in the league. That type of flawed mindset is what leads to an expensive extension for Reshad Jones. It means we have briefly overachieved in that one area and needed to take 2-0 advantage.

* That game was special teams hilarity. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many kickoffs run back when they should not have been, and punts fielded when they should not have been. I kept thinking that there's no way Tannehill can cost me this +4.5 bet on Kansas City, but the Chief return men and all the geniuses determined to hold or block in the back inside the 5 yard line certainly can blow it. The Don Jones absence is more significant than I estimated.

* Colquitt is a mismatch against virtually anyone, including Fields

* There couldn't have been 65,000 people there, based on those crowd shots. Who gets the leftover T-shirts? Perfect opportunity to bunch them together in the wee hours and burn down the stadium.

Good post.

* Jimmy Wilson is awful. Simply awful. You have been calling for him to get cut for a long time and I think its long overdue. At least send him back to special teams where his crazy recklessness can be used to some positive impact for us.

* Tannenhill didn't look as bad as everyone thinks, but he didn't look good. He needs to play with some damn passion and fire. I saw it once. The 2 min drive before half. We moved the ball and then that passion was gone yet again. If he can give that fire and passion the entire game, we will be much better because it will help hide his deficiencies.

* Charles Clay was getting open consistently against the defense.

* Jelani Jenkins is turning out to be a nice find and extremely aggressive and compact player. Genuine, humble, and puts the team first. Always in on the play as well.

* Trusnik is so overmatched and out of place its ridiculous. I would rather have Chris McCain start at the Mike because at least he can make some flash plays. He would do awful as well because he isn't a Mike but you would still get something out of it ( Sarcasm, but honestly it would be better off with him there)

* Sturgis looking like Sturgis. Nothing new. Want him gone. Unclutch is his nickname

* What the hell is Coyle doing? His schemes and gameplans are something a high schooler would come up with playing Madden.

* Rishard Matthews needs to be playing over Landry. I know Landry is showing some promise but Matthews is the only big WR on this team that can actually start to get RAC and dominate the opposing corner

* Reshad Jones and Louis Delmas is going to be a horrific combo.

* Daniel Thomas did what I said he would do. Get positive yards on catches and have nice runs. He needs the ball more.

* Oliver Vernon has NOT been criticized enough. Not getting any pressure at all.

* Lamar Miller looked nice on some runs, but again when he hits the second level he has no idea what to do.

* Hartline still can't catch with his hands.

* Lamar Miller looked nice on some runs, but again when he hits the second level he has no idea what to do.

Miller is still get used to the idea of having a first level he can get through, a novelty for Dolphin backs. He doesn't always shake off the guys at the second level but he still showed that his speed is a pretty effective weapon for gaining yardage at the second level itself.

No idea why a Tannehill seems to be regressing so bad but man I wish he could just get his **** around. I've supported him always, but damn
