Hayden Fox's Preseason Week Two Assessment

He would have had 2000 and 15+ touchdowns if Tannehill could throw a deep ball.
Do you realize tannehill was top 10 in the league his rookie year with his deep ball. Then wallace came and look what happened. That pass last night was perfect. Wallace should have adjusted. I know there was contact but still come on this dude gets knocked off his line by a light breeze

Crazy how everyone NOW agrees Wallace is a waste of time and money.

Me and a few others on this site saw him for what he was last year........a poor route runner, a WR who catches with his body, doesn't fight for the ball, and is not physical whatsoever. Ted Ginn Jr in disguise. The rest of this site defended him by saying "he takes the top off", opens up the field for other WRs, and Tanny can't hit him.

But now we have a creative OC designing plays to create mismatches and get receivers open......and suddenly everyone is ready to boot him. The Wallace hate bandwagon is filling up.....yet it will be empty the first time he catches a 70 yard TD.

I still hold out hope that Wallace can be a net positive for this team, because I still believe the biggest problem last season with his production was lousy coaching.

But the questions still beg to be asked.

In regard to Wallace, everyone should relax a little. There should have been PI on the play, and Tannehill didn't throw a great deep ball - too far outside.

But that's beside the point. It's the preseason. All camp, we've been hearing about how much they're moving around Wallace - from slot to the backfield. If Lazor gets Wallace as open as he's been getting some of our other slot WR's, Wallace is going to have some long runs after the catch.

Wallace will always have his limitations; he's not a well-rounded WR. He will, though, make some plays that only a few WR's in the NFL can, because he's THAT kind of fast.

Wheeler and Ellerbe are struggling. BREAKING NEWS. Seriously, and I hesitate to say it, can McCain and Tripp be much worse? McCain, again, looked very good.

Both of the D. Williams looked good. The RB fought hard and showed nice burst, and the WR used his frame very well. He's a big target, and a very good athlete. Both these guys should make the final 53. Keeping 6 WR's on the roster isn't ideal, but between Landry and the Williams, we can safely discard Thigpen.

Gerald McCoy is one of the 3 or 4 best DT's in the NFL - probably only behind Watt and Atkins (I understand that Watt is technically a 3-4 DE). It's not surprising that he'd abuse Dallas Thomas, but the offense has to find cover those types of mismatches. Hopefully, some of that is the result of it being preseason - not game planning for the opponent.

Landry is so quick from catch to run. Love him.

Watching our LB's and watching some of the Pittsburgh vs Buffalo game, it's not hard to believe that we would have preferred Shazier to James. What a monster. In his first NFL action, 9 tackles on D, 1 INT, and 2 tackles on kick coverage. No use crying over spilled milk, but he'd change the entire complexion of our D. Still, we should be giving harder looks to McCain and Tripp. I know they're gradually getting closer to 1st team action - with Tripp practicing some with the 1's - but each needs to have series with the starting D in the 3rd preseason game.

I think that you may be right re Shazier, but he was taken earlier than expected.

Just a comment on Wallace. All camp we have been hearing about him moving around and getting more throws on short slants and crossing patterns yet his only two plays were go long (held on the play) and a WR screen (which he dropped). I expect this to change once the real games get here so I still have hopes he can be effective and help us win games. Never going to be the guy that catches everything but his speed will help us win when used correctly.

Shazier is going to be a stud. Many of us said it then, while others made long explanations of why he would suck. It will be interesting to see what happens, but I think Shazier is going to be a home run.

Not getting Shazier is not on Dennis Hickey though. He went earlier and James was a solid pick. I thought James would go to Miami. The only other player that really intrigued me was Brandin Cooks.

The run defense has not been top ten, but they were much better this go round. Still seeing some missed tackles though particularly when DB's are shooting in.

Liking Damien Williams the RB more and not bad either with the WR.

Wallace bashing is for one reason. Money. Wasted downs? Only because he dropped a silly screen pass. Yeah, he could catch better, but once teams start covering everyone else, lazor and RT will work Wallace over the middle and that dude can fly. Is he overpaid? yeah, but at least he's not 100 million overpaid like that DT from the redskins years ago. We simply find his replacement when its feasable.

Ignoring the Dallas Thomas effect, how has Satele played?

I haven't heard his name, which should be a good thing.

Ya he looks more fluid on a slant, doesn't need to adjust as much to square on the ball. Those will be there to be had this year...even on Revis. Just gotta hang onto 'em.

He had a negative rating last night for run blocking, but his pass blocking was rated basically average. Roughly the same last week, slightly better at both.

Other thing I noticed about this game and Wallace is they were having him run around the QB from wideout as misdirection. They did this with another WR as well. Seeing big trickery coming when games count.
