Hayden Fox's Week Four Assessment

I've said it in another thread, but I really don't think Philbin publicly mulling a QB change immediately after a terrible loss was just "light a fire" speak. I think he legitimately wondered if Moore should be the starter for this team, something that every single beat writer for this team was also publicly mulling in their columns before Philbin spoke and that a solid percentage of the fanbase was as well.

great assessment. 1-3 would've been disaster heading into the bye, and I don't know how I would've handled the constant negativity around here for another two weeks. 2-2 never felt so good.
I would have taken a 2 week hiatus. Just brutal in here the last couple of weeks.

Great assessment. Great win. Perfect timing for a bye. Getting Pouncey back along with Jones and Misi is huge…huge. Lamar Miller has ran the ball very well this year…then you add in the fact that we will be getting back arguably our best lineman in Pouncey and with Moreno set to come back in the next few weeks (apparently his goal is the Packers game). This running game could very well become one of the best attacks in the NFL.

Aikens had the pick but that was a couple plays after he was nowhere on that blown coverage. Can't let that happen or he won't see the field no matter how much he can pick.

Yep and there was a play earlier where it looked like he didn't even want to hit the player...nevertheless the pick is a confidence booster like I said. For a guy coming from FCS to the NFL it's a big jump and some guys wonder if they can really play in the NFL early on...just see Jamar Taylor...a play like that could give Aikens the confidence that he can play in the NFL. Heck, how many picks has Jamar Taylor and Will Davis come up with in their short careers? I'd say Aikens has a leg up on them now.

With Jones coming back, Wilson I bet goes to the nickel and force Davis or Taylor off the field.

You can never have enough CB's, however. Those two young kids will be needed soon. Count on it.

You know why the WR bubble screens worked this week? The Raiders kept lining up 1-2 DBs against 3 receivers in trips formation.

So yeah, that's why they finally worked this week.

and with Clay and Sims as the other two blockers.....oh yeah. word is that lazor saw they were not adjusting so he kept using it.

thats what im talkin bout.

The thing about that pick is that it wasn't just an average run of the mill play.

He had to diagnose the play correctly and then instantly make a great break on the ball -- and then make an athletic catch.

That showed upside. Rough? No doubt. But there's good upside there. Take that play and build on it. Bring him along slowly and pick the spots.

Some team stats after 1st quarter.

#5 Rushing at 5.0/per
#22 passing at 212/g ( I see this improving, if it does not, nothing has changed long term)
#7 Total Defense 322/g
#6 Pass defense 215/g
#16 Run defense 107/g

with two games to go in league.

I really liked that Tannehill ran the ball for some positive yards as it creates one more thing for the defense to prepare for. His athletic ability is a talent that the coaching staff should use. That is a good sign moving forward.

Great write up. And notice who it was that forced the fumble that the refs botched? Jenkins just makes plays all over the field. I love this kid.

Agree Wheeler is playing better but I don't know if he has it between the ears - he could have been flagged on the hit on Reece after the incompletion on the 3rd down - an all too familiar Wheeler trademark!

Wake seemed quiet to me - not sure if they were doubling him or what but we need him to be him most Sundays.

Great to see the new offense finally start to gel. Hoping we stay hungry and hard at work over the bye.

74% completion rate. 9 different players caught passes and 7 of them had multiple catches. 12 ypc & 9 ypa

Keep it up T-hill. Make us believers.

It seemed that pretty much from mid 3rd quarter on, Lazor wasn't showing new stuff. And he went downright vanilla in the 4th.
