Jimmy Johnson was on the NFL Network a couple of days ago. He talked about how Bill Bellichek came down to visit him to talk player evaluation, defense, and football in general prior to last year. They also took in a little fishing
JJ said that Bellichek came down again this offseason and did the same. JJ said Bellichek thought it worked once so he'd try it again
The thing most people don't get about coaching is that is indeed a fraternity of sorts. They share ideas routinely. They talk more X's and O's than we could ever contemplate. IT IS THEIR PROFESSION. What they know......We could only hope to acquire about an quarter of that knowledge on football in our lifetimes.
If you humble yourself to know that you are just a pi$$ant in the realm of football you may be able to begin to learn something.
I heard a guy call into the new NFL Radio Network on Sirius. Pat Kirwan was a co-host. The caller said he was 17 and all his friends said he should shoot to become a GM someday. He asked how to get started with it and shot his mouth off about some other caller's assessment on a player and then stated his opinion on the player.
The Kirwan response was that the 17 year old was doing good asking the question until he thought he knew something. Kirwan told him first you will have to be fortunate enough to be accepted to do about ten years of volunteer work for and organization. Then you MAY get a job in the lower levels reviewing and preparing film giving no opinion. Simple film compilation and writing down numbers, NO OPINIONS. Then you may be fortunate enough to receive a scouting position in a territory. Kirwan's synopsis was that after about 20 years of holding your own opinions to yourself then someone may ask you for your opinion and you may get a front office job.
Just my two cents on the matter of who is prepared and who is not.
