Maybe it's just me but I can't stand this 'writer' Ethan Skolnick. He says right in the first paragraph that "the intent of this column is to splash icy water on any and all overheated expectations" in reference to Henne. Is that really the way to write a column, did his editor come to him with that as an assignment?

Editor: Hey Skolnick we need you to write an article that throws ice water on the Henne hype.

Skolnick: Yes sir boss, I just come up with some random stats that put big question marks on him.

Since when does a reporter admit that before even writing something he went into with a preconceived notion of what he wanted his findings to be? It is so obvious that he is trying his hardest to weave his story into what he wants the final analysis to be....which by his own admission was predetermined.

So I say F-YOU Ethan Skolnick your a two bit hack writer!

Heres the article, if I'm wrong then please let me know. By the way I get that he's saying Henne's starting off good doesn't guarantee he's the future, and thats fine. It's the fact that he went into the assignment with this as the predetermined outcome of his findings is what bothers me. To me thats not journalism it nothing more then Mad Libs style writing.

Whats up Ricky_Fan, I've been here the whole time whatch takin bout? I thought you and your sidekick have been hiding from me.:)

Skolnick is a tool and so is the outdoor writer for that kennel paper.
The only way they can prop themselves up is to create controversy.

Ethan Skolnick is NOT a two bit hack.

Actually I think this article is an extremely well-written piece. It's intent is to inform the reader and get the reader thinking about something from an angle they've not yet considered. He did that perfectly. To this day Ethan is still the most talented of the South Florida journalists.

So, yes, enthusiasm is justified as Henne makes his eighth NFL start Sunday, this one against the Bills in Buffalo, and it is especially justified when considering the dearth of playmakers he'd had at his disposal. All that's required is a little perspective about what he has proven, and what he has not.

Paragraph encapsulates the whole article.

No different then people who start a conversation with....

I don`t want to offend you but....

I`m not a racist but....

I`m not trying to insult you but....

I thought it was a good article. He's saying it's okay to get excited about Henne. But, rationally we shouldn't jump for joy calling him the next Tom Brady. He's 5-2 against sub-par teams. Does he have a chance to be a great starter for us? Sure. But, it's too soon to tell...

I said I didn't have a problem with the content of the article it's the fact that (imho) a journalist should never go into a subject with a preconceived notion of what he intends his research to uncover. That is the definition of a hack writer (as I said it's a Mad Libs fill in the blanks style writing) If you like Ethan you like him I'm not going to debate you on that, it's all a matter of opinion.

To me it's the same as if an editor went to him and said I want a story about how Ricky Williams heart isn't really into football he just wants a paycheck. (This being based on nothing but what they want as a headline) Then the journalist just writes a story based on that premise and figures out how to make the story back up that point of view. That is a** backwards of what journalism is suppose to be.

He is a scrub writer, always has been always will be. They should call him Dr. Spin. He and NYJUNC would get along great.

Not trying to offend or insult anyone....or be a racist...

But Rick Mirer started out only 1 game worse than Henne (4-3) on a terrible Seahawks team.....and set passing records as a rookie on his way to ROY honors....

The premisis of the article IMO is to just keep a level head about it.....don't set yourself up for the disappointment....

So the best way to write an article is to not know what you're writing about until it's already written. Gotcha.

I think your smarter then that and you know thats not what I'm saying, but if it makes you think you've made some kind of point then so be it.

I've heard more than one comparison to Tom Brady's first season and while there are many similarities, the article just says it's too soon to say how things turn out. even guys who suck can look good in their first 7 starts. Skolnick is just saying we shouldn't put him in the Hall yet and I can't disagree.
