here's something for all the people complaining about his deep ball

Really? actually the tanne realists don't need some mile long article breaking down every detail to explain that at the end of the day, tanne's deep ball to Wallace ends up in a high incompletion rate. That's what is seen with our own eyes. Regardless of who's fault it is. although it did take big ben and him a year to get acclimated to eachother too. I dunno im still torn.

the mile long article puts it into perspective and shows you there are qbs with worse deep balls and one of them who is ranked 27 in deep balls won. super bowl

well not many guys in the league have great deep balls...everyone who complains here acts like it the worst in the league.

No, we complain because he's below average and we just handed him one of the best deep wr threats in the NFL.

I personally think tannehill is developing very well, and the deep ball will come. People forget, he's never had a deep threat, and it's still new to him.

But that doesn't change the fact I would want to see more deep passes out of this offense.

And I bet if you looked at the deep ball stats last year from flacco, you'll see why he won games, and had a ridiculous playoff run, amd got himself that mega contract.

I'm not saying his deep ball is good, just that its average and that other qbs don't fare all that better

Thank you for posting this and a big thanks to CK for writing it.

I especially LOVE the photo of Wallace stepping out of bounds on the pass against Tampa. I was SCREAMING at the TV on that play that Wallace should have stayed in bounds. Tons of people posted on this forum that the ball was way out of bounds. It was less than a foot out of bounds when Wallace catches it at his waist (again). Hartline makes that catch easily. Every Tannehill basher should have to use that photo as their computer wallpaper. The ball traveled 50 yards in the air after Tannehill has to avoid the pass rush and it is less than 2 feet from where is should be. Tannehill bashers pretend that it was thrown into the first row of the stands.

CK, more or less wrote here: That Wallace at times is too fast for our system. Hence the underthorwn balls at times.

Wallace ran a go route on the play in question. The route did not involve a double move. This meant Wallace, with his 4.28 speed, per NFL Draft Scout, was destined to get vertical on the play very quickly.

Once Wallace gets vertical, he can cover a lot of ground in a very short span of time. This is key to note because Wallace's speed can work against a quarterback due to the functional constraints of his arm, if the play is not timed correctly.

To put it simply, if it takes too long to throw the ball, Wallace is going to have to slow down and wait for it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least that Wallace should have run a stutter and go on that route.

Comment from CK, with explanation in the article that's just damaging if true. It certainly points to our fears about Mike Sherman just not getting it and hurting this young QBs and our offensive development.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about the San Diego play is that when Mike Sherman was asked about it during his press conference, he said that Tannehill underthrew Wallace.

That bothers me. It suggests that he doesn't see the timing issue at all. I don't necessarily need him to admit that he should not have had a play-fake in on that play. If he chose to focus instead on Tannehill needing to get through his drop and hitch more quickly, I could accept that.

But to sit here and say that it's just an underthrow tells me two things:

1. Ryan Tannehill is not being coached to quicken his drops according to certain situations.

2. They're going to make the same timing-vs-route mismatch mistake again.

Upon further reading it he pointed out that the solution as illustrated by a beautiful play from Manning to Demeryius is not throwing the ball further! But essentially the OC realizing that he(QB) and the play design needs to get the ball out sooner.

Just a gorgeous explanation by CK here. RESPECT!!

What kills me is that we are still talking about low percentage deep throws when we really should be talking about how an NFL OL cannot get 6 feet on 2 rushing attempts. You have to figure those percentages would be higher, right?

The point to me is that there is a flaw in the play design. At some point you have to trust that Wallace will outrun his defender and so you also have to think that the QB must just put it out there earlier and let Wallace run to get it, not wait for him to come open 30 yards downfield. If Marino had waited for Duper to come open to throw some of those bombs he would have had to throw them 75 yards. The long plays are essentially timing routes, the ball has to be released on a rhythm for a chance at success. I think RT gets better on his throws to Wallace with another off season. As much as I hate to say this again... ( for the last 40 years) wait 'till next year. There are too many missing pieces for this O to be highly competitive.

People.complaining about anything to do with Ryan are just impatient and lack football realism. Its his second year he has a make shift line his running game is a joke and yet he is playing better then anyone we have had since marino. These guys are probaly getting there football news from espn still and getting world views from fox news.
