that's nice and all but they STILL have no RT.
Strangely enough, Spielman has done OK in Minnesota except for the whole not having a QB thing. If Bridgewater can become productive as a rookie, Spielman's going to keep his job. If Bridgewater matures into a good NFL quarterback, Spielman's going to have a winning football team.So if our GM position was available again, you would take Speilman over Newsome?
The Ravens went into the draft desperately needing a RT. The Ravens left the draft still desperately needing a RT. As of right now, the Ravens have no RT on the roster. How is that good?
If Newsome were our GM, and he didnt draft a RT, lets be real...you would be calling for him to be fired.

Ozzie needed a tackle and saw there was no value for any, so he didn't take one. Who do you trust-Ozzie or Hickey?

Well, he fell because of injury, but they did manage to recruit UDFA James Hurst, who would have likely been a round 2 or 3 guy had he not gotten injured. It's not an immediate solution, but IMHO he was the best UDFA and a steal for the Ravens.
Hurst would have likely gone elsewhere if Ozzie had drafted a RT. And, there are still one-year, stop-gaps available in free agency.
The Ravens do not play the finesse game required of the most in-demand RT's. IMHO, the Ravens OL is closer to being finished than ours.
Similar quality LT's, and Yanda is as effective in their system as Pouncey is in ours. We drafted 2 rookies presumably to start, and the final position is either the injured Fox or Smith, who graded out as a worse pass protector than any OG we had last year.
I'd say both OL's are incomplete. And, that is with us banking on 2 FA's and 2 rookies. It looks like neither team is finished building their OL.

Flacco was saked 30 times, a far cry from 58.

Ozzie didn't reach. He typically drafts guys who were rated high based on tape at the seasons end, but that fall for other reasons later in the draft process. He did that again with guys like Jernigan. But, just like every other GM in the league, he drafted to his team's needs. To his credit, he did not reach to get there.
That's an excellent summary of Ozzie's method. Sound philosophy and inevitable to be successful long term. Naturally there will be peaks and valleys. The hilarity is that as soon as the naysayers think they have discovered a valley and attempt to rip Ozzie, the next high point is likely already underway.
Meanwhile, we slog around with random flails, always taking guys who are rated considerably higher in late April or early May than early the previous December. It makes me sick because it goes against everything I believe in, and I know what the bottom line will be via that approach. I've seen guys do it for decades in Las Vegas. It's no different than betting sports based on the most recent game or handful of games. Sure, occasionally it works but basically you are preoccupied with the same themes as the everyday fan. The oddsmakers see you coming from a mile away and so do the draft boards.
Ozzie didn't panic because it's hardly problematic to find a plug and play short or medium term solution at right tackle. Just as we overreact to late news in the draft process, we placed far too much weight on the Clabo example last year.
Instead of relaxed foresight, we panic and patch. That's the MO in regard to the roster and the stadium.
